- noangelcame, on 04/02/2009, -8/+1016Wow, that looks like a soul-crushing job.
- maxwashere, on 04/02/2009, -5/+940I honestly thought it was all done by robots.
- bongo, on 04/02/2009, -5/+775"They earn around $10 hourly..."
I wonder if the workers who sort blu-ray discs get $14 hourly. - jguy584, on 04/02/2009, -11/+350Your gonna feel like a complete dumbass once someone explains this to you.
- unrequited, on 04/02/2009, -1/+331God-damn Boston.com... even when you force a slideshow, it's all preloaded and instant turns. YOU GUYS ROCK.
- pathouston22, on 04/02/2009, -8/+275Newsflash: 95% of jobs out there are repetitive, mundane, and boring.
Except yours of course. - mattmacneil, on 04/02/2009, -4/+249it technically is. I mean, look at their faces.
- thegamingguy, on 04/02/2009, -4/+233I kind of wondered a bit about how they managed all of those rentals. Great find.
- kahoona1, on 04/02/2009, -4/+201None of them are smiling...
- Dumbledorito, on 04/02/2009, -2/+197I haven't seen that many redshirts since the last "Star Trek" marathon on SciFi.
- Area51mafia, on 04/02/2009, -27/+218Why is there a boxed marked Polish? Are they DVDs from Poland? Does Poland even have that great of a Film Industry?
- chuckDontSurf, on 04/02/2009, -2/+188Alternately titled: "Jobs That Will Soon Be Replaced By Robots."
- Smokeydabear, on 04/02/2009, -1/+176It is very interesting to see how they do it but one suggestion: put something on the ***** walls so your workers won't kill themselves.
- Aroundtown27, on 04/02/2009, -2/+151Again, boston.com comes through with a good photo essay.
I like the new slideshow thing which doesn't require the page to reload for every picture.
Why can't everyone be more like boston.com? - BlackOculus, on 04/02/2009, -5/+147500 - 700 dvd's/hour at $10/hour = $.01 - $.02 per dvd....yup soul-crushing indeed.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 04/02/2009, -0/+119Do they all have to wear Netflix shirts all the time, or is that just for the photo session?
- sovietninja, on 04/02/2009, -1/+112gloryhole?
- PterionFracture, on 04/02/2009, -0/+99There are worse things one could be doing for $10/hour.
- Deausx, on 04/02/2009, -2/+95Its better than a McJob and requires about the same level of education, so dont knock it. :)
- cartmam114, on 04/02/2009, -4/+95You were the mistake.
- mouthymadness, on 04/02/2009, -1/+90Do you smile when you work?
- Falldog, on 04/02/2009, -1/+90Doesn't look all that great of a job, but in this economy there are probably much worse positions to be stuck in.
- jetblackz4, on 04/02/2009, -0/+83I have had Netflix for about 2 years now and they are awesome. Anytime I had a problem they immediately fixed it. Not to mention my extreme dislike for Blockbuster who always screwed me on late fees. They seem to do everything right which seems to be a rare thing these days for larger companies.
- wakeupsticky, on 04/02/2009, -1/+81I seriously hope you're joking.
- MLisa, on 04/02/2009, -1/+81Living in the country...Netflix gets 2 thumbs up from me. Great service.
- eramos, on 04/02/2009, -2/+81If I knew this I would have added little notes and stuff to all the DVDs I sent back
- WVUDoss, on 04/02/2009, -0/+73Two things:
I wonder if they recycle all that paper
I wonder what they do with the extra copies once a new release isn't as popular anymore - ObeseSnake, on 04/02/2009, -2/+75$10/hour to come not smelling like french fry grease? I'm sure a lot of fast food workers would love to work @ Netflix.
- xt0ph3r, on 04/02/2009, -0/+65I did that a few years ago ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/xt0ph3r/187595460/ ) and always wondered if a human ever saw the note or it just got discarded by a machine.
- Stomper622, on 04/02/2009, -0/+61Makes you wonder what's happening inside those Redboxes...
- wonkavsn, on 04/02/2009, -0/+61They only smile during the allotted smiling times.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -2/+61I am half Jewish and half German. I guess that's why I keep trying to kill myself :-(
- datacowboy, on 04/02/2009, -0/+52Yeah, but it looks like you get some snappy red t-shirts for free.
- mywhitenoise, on 04/02/2009, -4/+54haha! I'm not gonna lie, I thought it was 'Polish' as well.
- SlackerCS, on 04/02/2009, -1/+47That's what I was wondering. Seems odd to have a "uniform" like that. Maybe it's a security thing so they can spot random people wandering in wearing non-red shirts.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -6/+48Yeah, it feels nice knowing that your movie needs are being fulfilled by a bunch of mind-numb people stuffing 500+ DVD's in envelopes every day for $10 an hour. That's like two cents for every DVD stuffed
And they have to start at 5 am to satiate your need to watch "Transformers" - kelalo, on 04/02/2009, -0/+42The red shirts all seemed brand new and relatively unworn, as evidenced by the obvious fold lines. My guess would be that they're either issued a new shirt daily or their shirts are washed and pressed by the company, or (more likely) it was staged to give it a more Netflixy feel.
- martinherrera, on 04/02/2009, -2/+44you know that's a guy sucking your dick right?
- trevordj, on 04/02/2009, -0/+41I worked at FedEx and prior to that a North American VanLines (moving company). Each day was essentially the same, sort, pack, push, document, lift, or variations on those. While it was repetitive, both jobs were very physical and the moving company allowed me to travel intra- and interstate wide. The change of place helped make the repetitive job better.
However, this just looks mind-numbing. Wonder if they can listen to music or something while they work? - drumbum4b, on 04/02/2009, -1/+41probably a better working environment than blockbuster....i think they still use slaves.
- Aadain, on 04/02/2009, -1/+41Its the reason they have to pay you. If they didn't it wouldn't be called work.
- likwidfuzion, on 04/02/2009, -0/+37Doubt it. Game testers play the same general area repetitively. It's not as fun as you think it is.
- BonJoevi, on 04/02/2009, -6/+42If I worked there I would scratch all the copies of Indian Jones and the Crystal Skulls. No one should be allowed to rent or watch that movie, yet it keeps coming up in my Netflix suggestions!
- Aadain, on 04/02/2009, -0/+34That's because they actually succeeded and now have to actually work ;)
- Achaean, on 04/02/2009, -0/+33There are worse things one could be doing for $10/hour. At least they get to sit, doesnt look like they have to lift anything terribly heavy, they dont have to be outside in the heat or freezing cold, or deal with irate people.
- sillymeganlee, on 04/02/2009, -0/+29It's okay, I laughed.
- Jektal, on 04/02/2009, -0/+29Did your friends work at a local distribution center, or corporate HQ?
Also, I'm thinking they probably don't normally make everyone wear red Netflix shirts everyday. Seems kind of setup for a photoshoot. - Floodle, on 04/02/2009, -0/+29Maybe IE4 isn't supported on that site
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -9/+37Why is this user a douche? is he from Deutchland? Is he even German?
- CoD4, on 04/02/2009, -7/+35What's the best polish movie?
The one where they get invaded -
