I wrote a post last week about what Batman-on-a-budget would look like, and put a call out to artists to illustrate him for me. This artist's rendering is basically what I described. Anybody know when he created it? Surely before last week.

- lardlung, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Part of the appeal of fantasy is that it can be manipulated to create new ideas and concepts for the varied tastes of different people, whether serious, absurd, terrifying, sad, or lighthearted - the realm of "what if" doesn't hold the same boundaries as "what is"; and can be presented in different angles without changing the core material or idea. There are a thousand different concepts and re-imaginings of Batman and every other superhero out there. It's what makes it fun. Branch out a little and explore an alternate-alternate reality once in a while. If nothing else, it may make you appreciate the core material all the more. I like this. I don't know if it'd make a good long-term series or movie, but it's at least an amusing re-imagination of a fantasy image that you're taking for granted.

The idea is that this is a Middle Class Batman. Its still Bruce, and his parents were still murdered, but they were never rich, and he still ended up becoming Batman...but with a bit of a budget.

Besides, it looks like he's more than 20 feet from the entrance to any buildings, so he won't be giving you any of that second hand emphysema that people are so paranoid about.
