- Conway, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27If you really want to see an awesome setup, check this out!

He shows how he set it up too. Amazing! It would be nice to have that kind of cash. - SbooX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Cause you didn't give them a link!

a) what it cost;
and
b) if I could build one myself for less. - psylence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7a) A lot
b) Of course - Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed.
- n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9there's a fine line between "awesome" and "excessive"
- mrshonuff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8check out this one - he obviously has been to paris las vegas the casino a few times.
http://htguys.com/archive/2005/September192005.html - fuzzytoad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7because Coral Cache barely works half the time anymore
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, it is based on Star Wars, where space ships have wings and space is really noisy.
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Looks very cool, except the pictures are pretty small. Is that a cardboard 3PO in the center of the picture?
- equusdc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4
Cardboard C-3P0: $9
THX Soundsystem: $5,000
Getting a sense of personal accomplishment from paying someone else to bling out your TV and barcaloungers: Priceless. - zofo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7MY GOD that has to be the ugliest cinema I have ever seen...
IMPRESSIVE yes, tacky, tasteless and simply kitch? Totally
*brrrrrrrrrrr* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What a ***** website of an awesome set-up.
- umrgregg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Funnily enough, you will to.
- MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But it's not the Death Star...cue Vader's March...
- cwbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I personally like this one better for a sci-fi movie theme:
"The Bridge"
http://www.reighn.com/theatermain.html - SLIPSTR3AM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Not sure why the final screen is in the wrong aspect ratio. The sketches show it for a correct 'epic size' 2.35:1 [most war epics, Star Wars, LOTR, are shown in this ratio], yet the final version is in 1.85:1 [romances, comedies, and smaller films usually shown in this. This is the closer of the two to HDTV]. Anyways, if clearly this was designed for movies, he would have to deal with the 'black bars' on the screen. Oh well, great job regardless. But I gotta pick on it for that flub.
- gxti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think THX certifies crap, and I imagine the owner didn't skimp on the equipment, either.
- SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3that guy is nuts :)
check out the rest of his site. - Achilles1942, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3that is one of the coolest things i have seen. I wish i could have a hometheeatre like that
- master_of_fm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the best home theatres are the ones that you can walk into and not realize that it is a theater, except for the theater seating of course
- harmlessinc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5to Ingwenya:
Have a look at the Chicago theater:
http://www.theaterorgel.ch/Media/Bilder/Neue%20Bilder%20Joe/BilderUSA/ChicagoTheatreInside.jpg
The Steve Jenkins home project reminds me a lot of the older style of theaters. - richo1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They have experienced "the Digg Effect" Site down as we have all killed their download limit.
- netwookiee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey! Can somebody get this guy some digg insurance!
- s1lentslayer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This must be post-ANH. It appears the Death Star server was destroyed by Digg.
- matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its operational!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its a Trap! - spectrum21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah you would think someone with that much money, could get someone to build them a better website, and take better pictures...
- iiftmlis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5From article: "Each fiber optic star field incorporated 400 individual stars. And they TWINKLED!"
I wonder if anyone has ever pointed out to them that, in space, stars don't twinkle. - jhub908, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4is it fully operational?
- Julz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thats pretty cool!..... some people just have too much money.... i wish i was one of those people!
- Acill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Shoot try over $100,000! I worked next door to a place in Phoenix called Sounds like Music that did home theatre conversions and most full room ready to go systems started at $100,000 like that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can get a directory listing of all the available images if you go to
http://www.dillonworks.com/portfolio/starwarstheater/images/ - SoCalDissident, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It does look amazing, but I do wonder about not only the acoustics, but how much light bounced around off the screen. If I went to that much trouble, I would recess the screen a bit into the wall (unless he's doing rear projection).
- Steele, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Impressive quoting... most impressive.
- Spaztic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My god that is nice. I would love to play my xbox in there!
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Was this actually designed by Doug Chiang or is it just based on his concept drawings?
This site is loading for crap now. - Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sure there's no atmosphere but you have dust, planets, on/off switches and the passing star ship.
- ZoomBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That Steven Jenkins theatre is somewhat ugly just due to the fixtures. I saw him awhile ago providing a really in-depth view of the XBOX 360 and all its functions, etc and even then I thought his setup was surrounded by really ugly stuff. Oh well to each their own.
- mroffroad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The worst website navigation ever...
- Lord_Mizaru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Looks like the link is dead already, anybody cache it before it went down?
- darthmorpheus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2small thumbs of the theater:
http://images.google.com/images?q=starwarstheater&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images - Ingwenya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To harmlessinc: my point exactly.
- LandStander, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oh wow I want that....all of it!
- sygyzy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The website is terrible. It's super slow and the images are like 300x200 pixels. And there are a total of 5 images and maybe 100 words of text.
- gunner1138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dang digg effect!
- finn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3small note.. 'twinkling stars'? um, stars twinkle because of atmosphere, out in space stars dont twinkle (i know i know, but i just couldn't help myself), then again, its vaccuum in space too, and vaccuum's suck ...argh, sometimes i go too far
- bristolz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'll bet this is in a home of a 'softie or ex-'softie.
- TylerDurden0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Yeah, that dude picked up his dress and jumped over the line with both feet at the same time. Does he know the meaning of "ostentatious?"
- diggydown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1How is it that individuals can create the coolest theaters while Famous Players are, mmm, passable?
p.s. dillonworks.com is the slowest website I've seen in ages! :( -
