- kgibby, on 01/19/2009, -1/+67And the Nominees for the 81st Academy Awards Will *Most Likely* Be...
- rgon, on 01/19/2009, -5/+43I really hope Wall E replaces Benjamin Button in the best picture category.
- hokeywebb22, on 01/19/2009, -5/+40I dont see Robert Downy Jr. getting nominated for best supporting actor for Tropic Thunder.
- rehrer, on 01/20/2009, -0/+26Wall-E will run away with best animated. No contest there.
- vats, on 01/19/2009, -1/+27I am happy that Slumdog Millionaire is there in the list.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -0/+25"Relatively young and maverick directors like Fincher, Boyle, and Nolan will all have the words “Oscar-nominated” next to their names in future previews. The directors of Fight Club, Trainspotting, and Memento will all be able to put Oscar nominee next to their name. It feels a little like a changing of the guard and recognition of some talented filmmakers that a generation has grown up adoring."
Dugg for that part alone. - roxgod666, on 01/20/2009, -0/+22What does this look like to you, the golden globes? There is no humor in the oscars.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -1/+20Best actor is waaaaay too easy: Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler.
I hope Aronofsky wins for The Wrestler as well.
Ledger is a slamdunk for supporting male.
Wall-E pwns animated feature. - Nathrat, on 01/19/2009, -2/+20I'd say for the most part this pretty much looks right.
- dmpdpete, on 01/19/2009, -3/+20no In Bruges nomination?
- spookyttws, on 01/20/2009, -1/+15As much as I really wanted to be blown away by Benjamin Button (it was the my anticipated for the Oscar season) I really was let down. It was a good movie, but lacked that "magic in the moments of time" that films like Forrest Gump had. I really wanted to see them explore the idea of a grown man's intelligence and life experience in the body of a child, but it seems like they took the cheap way out.
Milk on the other hand, surprised me and really did surpass my expectations. Josh Brolin's work in both W. and Milk was exceptional. - coopaloop, on 01/20/2009, -0/+14Seconded. I almost fell asleep during Benjamin Button. It's no Forest Gump despite the similarities.
- dustinmacdonald, on 01/20/2009, -0/+14Don't hate on the medium. A picture is a picture regardless of how it was made.
- Maxjan, on 01/20/2009, -9/+22I like turtles.
- andrewlotta, on 01/20/2009, -1/+14Kevin James should be nominated for Best Actor.
He did a phenomenal job in Paul Blart: Mall Cop that puts Mickey Rourke to shame. - KirbyMorph, on 01/20/2009, -1/+12Buried for ***** ***** gifs flashing every second.
- brandita, on 01/20/2009, -0/+10Ledger was a supporting actor in TDK.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -0/+10I vote for Kelli McCarty for her role in "Faithless".
- brandita, on 01/20/2009, -0/+9I don't feel that The Dark Knight or Benjamin Button are going to pull quite as few nominations as this person is predicting. I feel like Benjamin Button is also a bit overrated in terms of quality.
- iamdak, on 01/20/2009, -0/+9I understand Ben Button was a good movie and all, but predicting 12 nominations?! If it does get that many, I will be dumbfounded. There are many other much better movies that I've seen this year that could take up half the slots Button would be taking.
I also have to agree about Eastwood getting another nod, a good performance against a slew of unknowns... I just don't see the justification when Brolin or Jenkins are in the mix as well.
Just watched Happy-Go-Lucky last night, scenes with Hawkins and Marsan convinced me they both should at least be nominated. - Shogi, on 01/20/2009, -2/+11You're a piece of *****.
- TheBadWolf, on 01/20/2009, -0/+9Oh look, he's different and edgy.
- feezus, on 01/20/2009, -0/+8The Dark What?
- kss42, on 01/20/2009, -0/+8The winners.
- thirty6chambers, on 01/20/2009, -1/+9Popular does not equal best. Please learn that.
- TheSalmonThief, on 01/20/2009, -1/+9This is such *****. Benjamin Button being favored for Best Picture and a bunch of other awards? It was good, but come on, the first half hour was ***** boring not to mention the movie as a whole was no incredible filmmaking feat. Good movie, sure, but not Best Picture.
And Dark Knight? Again, great movie, loved it, but it was also NOT an amazing feat of filmmaking.
How Revolutionary Road managed to garner but a couple nominations (this was the best all-around film in my opinion), The Wrestler stayed off of Best Picture, and a bunch of other things I can't think of atm, I don't know.
Hopefully the actual Academy has more sense than this dumbass. - Shellbait, on 01/20/2009, -1/+8The Wrestler's not on the list for best picture? ***** that *****.
- wefarrell, on 01/20/2009, -0/+7I agree. I definitely thought Wall E was the best movie to come out this year and one of the best movies I've ever seen. Unfortunately I don't see it getting recognized as such by the Academy Awards. Too many people still see it as just an animated movie or a kids movie, when its really much deeper than any of the movies on that list.
- Shogi, on 01/20/2009, -0/+7Downey and Cruise both did amazing jobs in their roles. If you didn't like the movie, fine, but you have to recognize great acting when you see it, and both of them were amazing.
- cordillera, on 01/20/2009, -1/+8This list sucks.
- TheAmazingBob, on 01/20/2009, -0/+7This all sounds great... but which movies will actually win?
- dylbrwn2, on 01/20/2009, -0/+7Are you ***** me? Do you really think that Iron Man and the Dark Knight were on the same level?
- ohnoerino, on 01/19/2009, -1/+8I know, I don't get it either.
- tmyprod, on 01/20/2009, -1/+8elaborate please.
- brandita, on 01/20/2009, -2/+9Steelers.
- xOKxWhy, on 01/20/2009, -1/+8He should be a surprise winner even if he's not nominated. He's that good
- mfhayes, on 01/20/2009, -0/+6Slumdog Millionaire, Wall-E, and Milk are my top 3 for the year.
I'm picking Slumdog for best picture. - Moosington, on 01/20/2009, -1/+7Slumdog Millionaire will win best picture, no doubt. Far more complete a picture than anything else put out this year. Boyle will win best director as well. Rourke will win best actor. Those three are very safe bets.
- 1ShotJake, on 01/20/2009, -3/+9I can't wrap my head around a dark knight nomination for best score... there was what, three notes played total in that film?
- andrewlotta, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5I guarantee you Benjamin Button will not be nominated for Best Picture by the Oscars.
- HyperionHK, on 01/20/2009, -1/+6that's because The Dark Knight, while a great movie, is not as great as many others of the year. I could see it getting Best Picture nominated, but it doesn't have a hope of winning
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -1/+6The wonderful world of advertising
- Drahkir, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5And his name wasn't Keith
- pyroguy56011, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5No, Button was pointless as *****. Set during Katrina? ***** please. Also, Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture. It's entirely possible.
- Tddupre, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5Button is mostly CGI as well
- andrewlotta, on 01/20/2009, -1/+6I really like Aronofsky, but I think Danny Boyle will undoubtedly win for Best Director.
- Dukewintermaul, on 01/20/2009, -0/+4Im sorry, a minor award at The Oscars?
I wasn't aware they had those. - TheBadWolf, on 01/20/2009, -2/+6Yeah, I remember thinking Dark Knight had a pretty bad score. After the sixth time the theme played I was rolling my eyes.
- heystellah, on 01/20/2009, -0/+4I'm disappointed that Synecdoche, New York and Charlie Kaufman aren't getting any love this year. Oh well, it always takes about 15 years or something before the industry can appreciate someone trying something new.
- Benjamintc, on 01/20/2009, -0/+4Sadly we'll have to wait until the 82nd AAs for James' night of glory.
