- Melodik, on 04/09/2009, -1/+23Say hello to my little friend!
- thinkb4utype, on 04/09/2009, -2/+15Napoleon wasn't short. That was a fiction spread by the English. He was actually several inches taller than the average french man of the time. Al Pacino is 5 foot 6 inches and is definitely shorter than today's average man.
Most of what we have been taught about Napoleon is wrong, because his enemies wrote the histories. - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -3/+14Pacino is about 20 years older than Napoleon when he was exiled for the final time... Hollywood should just go all the way and have him played by Lucy Lawless as a big scary bulldike. Seeing as the most historically accurate film I've ever seen Hollywood put out was 300, I'd like to see them just go all out with the bs and stop pretending that they are making anything that vaguely resembles history.
- manicleek, on 04/09/2009, -1/+11should have been Danny Devito
- inigomntoya, on 04/09/2009, -0/+8Sir? Who are we going to conquer today?
Whoever I FEEL like conquering. GOSH! - brainboy7777, on 04/09/2009, -1/+8Are you guys retarded? Watch the Godfather 2, then scarface, then dog day afternoon, and then serpico, back-to-back, He received Oscar nominations for all of those films except scarface, which is ***** up. And these are very different roles. He's the cool, but on the way out in Godfather 2, coke-crazed badass ***** in scarface, scared ***** kid in dog day, and the peaceful yet frustrated cop in serpico. If you have seen his movies in the past 30 years, and still have this notion that he's not versatile, you're full of *****.
- socialPsyence, on 04/09/2009, -0/+6Isn't he going to be a bit old for this?
- harajukukei, on 04/09/2009, -0/+6i prefer the napoleon from bill and ted's excellent adventure.

- Coy0te, on 04/09/2009, -1/+6***** 'em all! I bury those cockroaches!
- MrZaiko, on 04/09/2009, -2/+6As much as I love Mr. Pacino, this one is a FAIL writtten all over it
Him and Deniro need better roles for their final movies before retirement.
Instead of their last cop movie. I would rather see them do some awesome ala Godfather movie, where they are two big old mafia bosses going at war. - thinkb4utype, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4I was taught Napoleon was a warmonger bent on conquering Europe. When you actually read an objective history, you find the monarchs were the ones that initiated the wars. Four times Napoleon and the french armies defeated them and they signed peace treaties. Each treaty was later violated by coalitions of the kings of England, Prussia, Austria, and Russia. Most of this antagonism was because Napoleon wasn't of royal blood and the monarchs considered him a usurper.
At the same time, Napoleon established the rule of law in France, universal education, and encouraged economic development. France was the most progressive country in Europe. - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3He hasn't made a movie where he stretched his acting ability in nearly 30 years.
He was indeed one of the most electrifying actors of his generation.. a generation ago.
If you sit on your laurels and phone it in for that long, you lose a lot of respect. - SillyRabbits, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3I was about to say the same. Napoleon died at about age 52. How is Pacino going to pull that off? Pacino is a fine actor, but he looks nothing like the historical paintings of Napoleon (certainly not since he's approaching 70), and I shudder to think of his version of a french accent.
As a side note: 300 was horribly inaccurate. - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3actually I think the millions of common people who fought in the trenches are the ones who got theirs. Not trying to be a dick like most people who "correct" other comments on this site, I see what you're saying and it makes sense since a lot of Empires died with that war, but still, they didn't suffer much compared to regular folks :-(
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -2/+5Aside from the age factor, I'm really curious to see how Pacino is going to pull off the French accent thing, or are they going to do the typical Hollywood tactic and completely ignore that?
I hated how in "The Man in the Iron Mask" (yes it sucked regardless, and starred DiCaprio of all people, but my point still stands) it was in France, but everybody spoke with British accents.
That's one big WTF. - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Isn't him doing a French accent gonna be a little retarded if the dialogue is in English? I mean, if you wanted realism, you'd do it in French. To everyone Napoleon was speaking to, he would not sound like he had a heavy accent (well, OK, he probably had a Corsican accent).
You know where I'm going with this. - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Yes. Napoleon was 52 when he died. Pacino is 68.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Napoleon was 5ft 6, which was pretty average for the era.
- SpinningHead, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2I thought Napoleon's peak was in his 30s. This would have been great news....in 1978.

Godfather II - 1974
Scarface - 1983
Dog Day Afternoon - 1975
Serpico - 1973
So basically you just admitted that Al Pacino is a washed up actor who was good 30 years ago, but not any more. Thanks for agreeing with me!!! - wassamatta, on 04/09/2009, -1/+3guess ya guys didn't see looking for Richard. If he can do Shakespeare he can do Napolean (with that raspy ass voice)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8slhdMIGKY - dafragsta, on 04/09/2009, -1/+3that is going to be one haggard looking Napoleon.
- Exhibitionist, on 04/09/2009, -1/+3I agree - Pacino is not versatile. He's played the exact same role for the past 30 years. By the same token, there are very few actors I can think of that are truly versatile. I'll go out on a limb and say that Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks and Dustin Hoffman are definitely up there.
- macmcraeart, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2pacino is kind of old for the part. Napoleon died at 51.
- Akairenn, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Damn the French and confusion to Boney.
Where's my Hollywood blockbuster about Nelson and Trafalgar? - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2You mean Martin Weir?
- borez, on 04/09/2009, -4/+6Contrary to popular belief, Napoleon was not short. His just hired extremely tall personal guards.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 04/09/2009, -2/+4"As a side note: 300 was horribly inaccurate."
Whoosh. - finklehorn, on 04/09/2009, -1/+3le HOOAH
- palehorse864, on 04/09/2009, -1/+3*Pacino voice* "Ya EVAH take it offa any sweet JUMPS!?"
- geoman2k, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1who cares? it's not like this is spartacus or something... its based off a childrens book, it'll probably just be a night at the museum rip off or something.
pacino hasn't been in a good movie fro yeeeeaaaarss i doubt he's going to start again any time soon. - thinkb4utype, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Touche!
- FuzzplugJones, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2Tina, come say hello to my little friend! Gosh!
- KaiserArny, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1For all the good Napoleon did , he also made very bad decision. The French had outlawed slavery during the revolution. But Napoleon reversed that decision. So he sent 30 000 troops to Haiti to reimpose slavery.
They were defeated and Haiti declared it's independence in 1804, Becoming the first black ruled republic in the world. - SugarRay, on 04/09/2009, -2/+3Only Martin Weir can play Napoleon.
- SillyRabbits, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2"Whoosh"
Yeah, yeah, you're right. I guess I didn't read the original post that carefully - or it got edited while I was responding... - brainboy7777, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2ATTICA! ATTI- no wait *searches napolean on wikipedia* HELENA! HELENA!
- Cheesehead9805, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1true he was taller than the average man, but only slightly. he was 5 foot 7
- Willtheway, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1I think they made a miniseries based off of this book, and it was really good.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1let me guess gwenyth paltro as josephine?
- macmcraeart, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Napleon was a self made man. He was in the process of douching Europe of it's divine right monarchs when Russia kicked his ass. He represented rule by the best at a time when ***** were in command of the world. The ***** of ww1 can be blamed on these ***** heads. And they were douched by the time it was over. Most of them.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1break out the mustard and rye....here comes the ham
