- eclectro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34I have feeling that if it had been a real tagging, there would have been a couple of shot taggers lying on the tarmac somewhere.
- stmico, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23I had to stop watching the interview of Mark Ecko stating why he "tagged Air Force Once" half way through because he was so full of himself. I just couldn't stand listening to that cocky idiot any longer.
- snowbooch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22i would really expect someone supposedly coming up like ecko did to find something more meaningful to do with his money than make ridiculously elaborate fake videos
well done though - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21i actually thought this was interesting before i read that part. all they did is buy the same plane and repaint it.. if some REAL internet pranksters had convincingly used computer graphics to virtually graffiti the plane (AT NO COST) and fool the air force, THAT would be cool.
this is just lame. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14The problem with this guy isn't this fake video, it's actually pretty clever. The problem is his attitude. He goes to sleep at night thinking he's made the world a better place by spreading his ideas of free expression. In reality all he's contributing is some over priced tacky clothing and a bad video game. And grafitti is only art when it's placed somewhere where it's welcomed.
There is a fine line between self confidence and self importance and this guy has jumped right over it.
And yes, you kids should get off my lawn. - brentcore, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19how retarded...yet another awkward corporate attempt to emulate spontaneity and art. I ***** hate these canned viral advertisements.
Marc Ecko has just been added to the ***** list along with Sony and Microsoft. - Monoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think the point was if they were actually worried that someone did tag it, then it must not be as monitored as well as we'd like to think it is.
- Karisson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I think Mark Ecko's been playing a little too much Getting Up.
- kolavar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Me three.
- RamMasterRay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9 As an ex-writer Marc Ecko's idealism about tagging seems sadly similar to mine at age sixteen. The game he has produced will inspire children to incur thousands of dollars in fines for their parents or parent . Graffiti is a difficult art to redeem. More Twist, Daim, Hesh, or Ces etc would inspire more effort towards asrtistry but too many manchildren vandalise for the sake of vandalism. Ecko's game encourages vandalism for the sake of an impression or high score. Any person that has been a graffiti artist has dealt with kids like that they are irritating at best.
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The entirely dark base with one of the most secret planes parked under spotlights sort of gave it away for me.
- rebz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7this guy just lost all of his credibility. he goes and makes a teary-eyed video on why freedom is important and why his whacked out version of "freedom of speech" (more like idiocy) is why he loves this country, and power sucks...
"oh by the way, it was all fake"
AND (the kicker)
"It's not cheap," he said. "You have to be rich."
yea... right. great way to get to the kids, marky - lazyguy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I second that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I wanna know why people keep thinking it would be impossible to do this. I used to be in the Air Force, and they guard things pretty heavily, but nothing is impossible. I've seen the front doors of a Base Command "tagged" while it was open, in daylight.
I wouldn't be suprised if this -WASN'T- a staged hoax.
Think about it as it's real (forget he said it was a hoax). How much trouble would he be in if it was real? How would you setup an alibi to get yourself out of that kind of trouble? (Also consider you have alot of money you can spend.) If you have a good alibi, why wouldn't you try to do it? If you're shot do you become a martyr to underground groups?
Now on the other side of this, would you admit to being tagged on one of your most supposedly secured locations?
Just think about it. Not saying that it's not a fake, but think about if it wasn't..... - lost84001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6When I first saw it, I thought he was an ***** for doing it. Then, when I realized it was fake, and that he'd paid a lot of dough to do it, I thought he was a BIGGER *****. That guy is a complete tool.
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16"how they pulled it off: a rented 747 in California painted to look almost exactly like Air Force One."
What the... O_o That's got to be the most cost-prohibitive way to do this, right?

- rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It is a publicity stunt.... one that makes me hate ecko where before I was indifferent. So I guess he got what he wanted, I care now. Care to feel better about myself that I don't wear his wannabe hipster *****.
P.S. does marky make sure his ***** isn't made in sweatshops? Does he travel the word and make sure his "employees" are guaranteed their freedoms like not working when they are 6? - bludra84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5helps weed out the gene pool
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The biggest problem.. is someone trying to copy this crap to be "cool" and end up dead.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I would have thought of spraying something more worthwell than "Still free" if I was spending all that money to produce this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This video shouldn't get him in trouble.
If it does, we live in a truly ***** country to the point where it's illegal to paint a plane to mimic AF1. Please.
This is no way harms the president. Guess you can't make movies about presidents, white houses, AF1s either. - orangekid13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5darn... i was skeptical, but i was really hoping it was real...
thinking about it now, all the armed guards there would have done some damage, those guys wouldn't have even gotten close. - rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6So true, it is an absolute in this world that as soon as you get enough money for enough amount of time you turn into a garage-sized *****. I am looking at an uneducated, gumba sounding, puerto rican or something and yet I am thinking to myself..."you were able to spend -probably- about 400k on this stunt that will interest the real "minds" of America for about, oh 129 seconds, and then all the ***** out there will tag their neighborhood that their parents probably worked four jobs collectively to pay rent.
Eat the rich. - strangerzero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7With all the air defense the USA has you wouldn't think that people could crash two planes into the World Trade Center and then crash another one into the Pentagon 45 minutes later. My point being the Air Force isn't to great on security.
- funpet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Personally I'd rather the government spend my money on education than guarding George Bush's personal 747 from vandalism.
- bloodguard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I wanted to do something culturally significant, wanted to create a real pop-culture moment," said Marc Ecko of Marc Ecko Enterprises.
Good lord, what a pompous smarmy poser. The toe nails I just clipped are more "culturally significant" than his lame little web film. - ZoomBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think they could've done this a lot cheaper with some video editing instead.
- whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4where when and how did marc ecko suddenly get big? yeah, i understand he has a clothing line or whatever. apparently it must not be a midwest thing because I never see anyone wearing it, talking about it, or even really selling it (I'm sure they are, I just don't notice). i must have missed something.at any rate, he sounds to be a total douche bag.
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -10/+12If he had grown up in the Bronx, he would know that Tagging is NOT Graffiti
- gmerin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3it doesn't help free speech; the vid of his justification is lame. he's "upset" because the purchase of spray paint and wide markers is regulated in order to deter vandalism. it attempts to justify vandalism in the name of artistic expression and free speech. its not society's requirement to pay for the expression of artistic efforts by allowing artistic destruction of public and private property not designated for art; it is sometimes a decision made by society, but its not a requirement and not permitting it does not diminish the quality of the society. the desire to destroy property in the name of art and free speech is only an indication of Mark's immaturity and disrespect.
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8"Marc Ecko has just been added to the ***** list along with Sony and Microsoft."
Marc Ecko has always been a tool. He's from Orange County CA but wants people to believe he grew up in the Bronx. - matts0344, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I had a feeling it was fake, no one could get to Air Force One like that.
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Excellent publicity stunt, however I think people are smart enough to know the guys a nut and this is fake.
- jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"revealed Friday how they pulled it off: a rented 747 in California painted to look almost exactly like Air Force One."
HAHAHAHA
That's exactly what I said when this was on Digg. Thus, no tail number shots. - DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's hugely popular where I live (North Carolina), and I saw a lot of it going back home to New York to visit family.
- 71M80, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What a complete loser(although he has got a lot of money). He wants people to look up to him and buy his clothing. Now everyone knows he's fake. The man does'nt even have a message. People have always been free to express themselves.
- jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Um, no.
1) You can paint a plane whatever you want, that's not illegal, changing tail numbers is illegal though. So, unless you want to break that law, it's pretty obvious it's a fake AF1.
2) Transponder signals. I'm sure if you hang around Andrews AF base enough you could get the transponder details out of the air, but again, that's also illegal.
3) Unless you have your own runway, someone is going to notice an AF1 clone taking off from some ***** airport runway and not a military base.
4) And most importantly, the location of AF1 is known at all times rather precisely. It wouldn't take 5-10 minutes to figure out where AF1 is. AF1 is either on the ground waiting for Bush, or in the air with him. Find out where Bush is, and bam, you know where AF1 should be. - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does noone else think it slightly scary that someone can get a company to paint a 747 to the same livery as AF1 without it being reported? Would they not see it as slightly odd, especially as they signed a document to secrecy?
"I need you to create a replica of AF1. Just for... a joke... uh, yeah, that's it." Here's an idea: get a 747 loaded with fuel and whatever other explosives etc. you can get your hands on. Get it painted like AF1. Fly it over Washington. When you get tailed by F14s they will report a visual of a plane with AF livery. Respond to radio only as AF1 on-route to Andrews. Take advantage of 5-10 minutes of complete confusion as the air force liases with various agencies before they locate the real AF1. Meanwhile, put the plane down wherever takes your fancy.
So when you spot AF1 flying over Washington and being tailed by a couple of F14s, you know what happened. - rolosworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how this helps free speech?
if he is so worried about free speech why not put the Mohammad cartoons on his clothing?
I think this is a publicity stunt. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, this story was duped; http://digg.com/links/Marc_Ecko_Tagging_Air_Force_One, http://digg.com/links/Marc_Ecko_Lies_about_Tagging_Air_Force_One, submitted by theholotrope ****3 days ago****
- JakeMcMahon, on 10/12/2007, -13/+14From somewhere else:
"I wonder how he'd feel if I tagged his whole ***** house? Or his mum?
Is that freedom?
Wanker."
Also: http://www.stillfree.com/legal.html - jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL, white people.
- funpet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1On the contrary, art is not something we should confine to certain spaces. Art is supposed to defy our ordered perception of the world. On the one hand, this is an example of non-art because it is just an advertisement; but to condemn all art that crosses certain boundaries... that is to condemn all art.
- Izzie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1guys? Hello ? anybody here ? this has already been dugged to frontpage:

in other news:
- US military could have saved time and efforts just by comments on digg
- yahoo.com makes old news from digg comments on a poor news
- Mark ecko viral marketing got exposed, his recently released (poor) videogame sales increased by 10 times - joshg253, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ever since I saw Eminem wearing Ecko clothes, 2001 or so, I started noticing all the "thugs" in Tacoma wearing the stuff.
- ViRaZ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5"It's not cheap," Ecko said. "You have to be rich."
I wonder who had the money? Ohh that's right, Ecko has an entire clothing line and a video game. Now he freely tags buildings to get his message across but will charge us for his clothes and game? Why not give us this stuff for free if he has the money?
On a side note: I would not want this guy to give a speech anywhere. Stick with the tagging. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope this story, and especially his pompous poseur "why I did it" video get a lot a lot A LOT of play. The more people that see him acting like a tool bragging about his fake stunt as if it were real, the less people that will buy his overpriced gym clothes.
I think I need to start making "Mark Ecko is a Tool" shirts. Then I can get rich, too. - DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Air Force fell for it until they checked, according to the article.
