- ahdustin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dont know, but the one I use, and its freakin awesome is http://www.listal.com
Its a great site, does movies, books, games and it has a fantastic UI. - iliketurtles2, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1The problem I see with this is that there is a individual social networking site for everything. Why can't there just be one ultimate one containing all the features.
I use digg for tech news, facebook/bebo for university stuff and myspace for other stuff. Why should I have to visit so many sites?! - zokra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like http://www.listal.com/ better...
- Mach5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not bad, but http://www.liveplasma.com is better. NYET DIGG
- Battlecry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting DVD collection, ahdustin... Wish I had Columbo seasons on DVD... Man, I loved that show.
- johnwiseman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0horrible looking layout
- Testify.Alex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is this something like http://twofifty.org/?
- RogueJediX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed, johnwiseman. A splendid idea, but the layout is just...blech.
- ipunchstrangers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the layout doesn't need to be anything as long as you can build a strong community. look at myspace, everything about it is god awful yet it's one of the most popular social websites. the community is what makes the website, not the other way around.
iambigred, nobody's thought of that combination yet, jump on it now and you may have the next big thing. - VaderHader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ummm... Netflix does this already. Just wanted to throw that out there.
- Longsh0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting, but it needs some sort of importer like Listal has. I personally use DVD Profiler (http://www.intervocative.com) and I don't feel like manually inputting my entire collection. :)

Thanks for the heads-up on Listal, ahdustin. I've been looking for something for my music collection. - rmowery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with iambigred - the concept of a single entry point for social networks is more appealing. Something like the folks at Ning (www.ning.com) are doing is pretty sweet. They already have a ton of social apps being built including some that handle movies, books, etc. (http://movies.ning.com/) and http://bookshelf.ning.com/
What's really appealing besides your login there working on all social apps in their playground, is that you can create your own social apps pretty quickly - which is something I am currently pursuing. They still list the playground as Beta, but from what I have experienced so far - it is a darn stable beta environment. - andywirtanen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm, I use http://dvdaficionado.com/ to keep track of my DVD list. There isn't much of a social aspect to that site other than the fact that users can submit DVDs not listed on the site and I can see who owns a particular DVD.
- mdsanta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gah, nice site. just slow and since it's starting out very buggy. I cant even sort the titles by name. and it would be nice If could check all the titles I have from a list and add them all at once. I can edit the tags later.
- complex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Decent, but I agree the design is poor. Interesting that the creator is trying to build a network of sites... From the URLs it looks like he might be using Ruby on Rails.
Also, the site is already quite slow. :( - dtremblay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another vote for dvdprofiler. I've used it for years and it works very well. The auto profile feature is slick.
- mdsanta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im sure the websites hopes you socks burn in a blaze of fire...
while on your feet. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0twofifty.org is better.
- wlloydda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try http://movielens.umn.edu/main to find movies that you may like and add your ratings.
- GizmoMonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks Cubic. I've been meaning to get this done and with time off for the holidays, I'm on it. I've checked out all the links people have offered and I have to agree with ahdustin that Listal is much better. I also read a ton of books (I travel 2-3 weeks each month) so this is more appropriate for me. Being a family man and having friends with kids, I can't say I'd use ning.com as having "girl on girl" and "milf" links pop up would cause the wivies to explode on me.
- Longsh0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"what's everyone's listal username? "
Mine is Longsh0t. Imported my collection from DVDProfiler, but Listal didn't add 87 of them. Odd. As far as my collection...keep in mind that I have kids. :p - Jimiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think this is an interesting link. I agree the design is a bit spartan. I would have to comment that this is a site about films, not DVD's. There is a difference.
- drowelf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a fine idea, but I've rated around 800 movies on netflilx alreay and have added comments to a bunch of them. I like the idea of a more widespread social network, but it would have to somehow capitalize on the work I've already done at netflix. Any ideas?
- joseph77b, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Flixster.com does similar stuff with a much nicer site.
- braden.beer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0listal.com is pretty flippin' sweet.
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0By the same people who do reader2--look at the site design.
- commongiga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what's everyone's listal username?
mine's sthe same as my digg one, just curious to see other digger's collections. - psytek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0SPAM WRITTEN ALL OVER IT, i prefer a tubular service thank you.
- dudley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas I've ever seen. It's like people are just digging in their asses for ideas for a new website. I have an idea, let's make a social networking site to show pictures of your SOCKS. YES, that's a GREAT idea! SOCKS! Everyone wears them and they come in all sorts of different colors! Yeah, we can market SOCKS!
Gah, I hope this website goes down in a blaze of flames. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0freaking sounds awesome to me...something inventive for a change.
