- kida101, on 01/25/2009, -2/+24Sundance has lost all its credibility as a viable outlet for independent film...instead it's just another opportunity for the lame Hollywood elite to pretend like they are important and making artsy films, while continuing to make ***** films. I think if anything, the sight of Paris Hilton prancing around Park City is a sign of the apocalypse for Sundance.
The real independent film movement exists online with filmmakers self distributing or distributing for free...you just have to search for the real gems. - kidcodea, on 01/25/2009, -0/+7yeah Chris Crocker replaced Robert Redford in my mind aswell...
oh wait. - stonecircle, on 06/11/2009, -1/+580,000 tickets were sold to the 2008 Traverse City Film Festival. It's giving Sundance a run for its money. The films are top notch, and the venue is incredible, not to mention that Traverse City, in and of itself, is a great destination. I've planned my vacation around the event the past four years.
- dreamytime, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3It is just a jumping ground from being poor and independent to rich and blockbuster.
It has lost all it's credibility. - edebolt, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3#1 is Telluride but anyway Sundance? how about they start nominating good movies for a change and then somebody cares. It's so full of itself anyway. Just show the movies and have a good time. No need for awards.
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -1/+4You mean Prop 8.
- franklymister, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3So what happened to the boycott?
- devfeed, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Impossible! I'm not impressed. Not even a bit. http://homemasters.info
- imrighturwrong, on 01/25/2009, -0/+1sundance turned into a yard sale, but nobody is buying this year
- Mujokan, on 01/25/2009, -0/+1Damn, that's kind of embarrassing... :D
- Mujokan, on 01/25/2009, -3/+4I just skimmed it, but it seemed they didn't mention Prop 9. Entourage helped give Sundance a bit of a boost a few years ago, but the Prop 9 thing probably dealt it a death blow. Of course funding is probably kind of hard to come by in Hollywood right now, but that just meant it was even worse timing.
- billraydrums, on 01/25/2009, -2/+3Wouldn't have anything to do with the Mormons vs the Gays would it?
- rowlodge, on 01/25/2009, -1/+2no its prop 10...its so last year.
- doctressjulia, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1I do believe it would.
- barthes2006, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1Prop 8 had nothing to do with Sundance, the art world is notoriously stodgy and conservative when it comes to new technology and Sundance, being more concerned with "branding" rather than distros botched it royally. Nowhere is this more patently apparent than if you go to the indiewire.com website and punch up the story "Not Picked Up In Park City..." where the writer predicts that in the year 2014, there will be an Indie Distribution Network that will do what itunes does now. Really, the dearth and eventual death of indie films will be an exact reply of what killed indie music, greedy and stupid distributors who cared more for limning their pockets and making cocktail conversation with critics about how smart they look for bringing x, y, or z film to the market. Frankly, this is the best thing ever for indie film.
- spish, on 01/25/2009, -4/+4see what happens when you support prop 8?
- jhails, on 01/25/2009, -8/+1Does anyone still go to movie theaters anymore?
