- GerryBot, on 10/26/2007, -4/+40Can't help thinking of Superman with a James Bond accent. "The name's Kent. Clarke Kent."
- InuX, on 10/27/2007, -1/+23Sean Connery for superman!
- frostyfrog, on 11/04/2007, -1/+21Yes, specifically, he's Welsh.
- Hockey13, on 10/27/2007, -1/+21No, no. This is Rumorville. LegitimateSourceton is two exits back.
- lpmiller, on 10/26/2007, -1/+19I have no problem with a Brit playing Superman, but superman gets his powers from the sun, and this guy looks like the sun is the last place he should ever be.
- yayaja67, on 10/26/2007, -0/+18Go eat some freedom fries you colossal anus
- kaintehdragoon, on 11/04/2007, -1/+18So much for the Justice League of America.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+15he'll find it difficulty changing clothes, even phone booths have cameras and suspicious policemen in england nowadays.
- RedZone09, on 11/04/2007, -3/+18Isn't Batman british also?
- Hollowpoint, on 11/04/2007, -2/+15Well, he's British, so maybe this one will be able to ride a horse.
- Kinsbane, on 10/26/2007, -5/+18He looks like a pansy.
Just use Brandon Routh, he already LOOKS like Superman, and he does great at playing the role. - 0crabby0, on 10/26/2007, -0/+11"Today’s mooted Man of Steel is British actor and banjo enthusiast Rupert Evans."
I have no problems with Mr. Evans being from the United Kingdom, but BANJO ENTHUSIAST? lol - Markpdotcom, on 10/26/2007, -2/+13No, thats Americans you're thinking of... and "Herbs"... ;)
- NStuart88, on 10/27/2007, -3/+13This guy doesn't even look like a Superman...We need a real movie about Chuck Norris!
- lilwolvie9146, on 11/01/2007, -5/+15Why does everyone freak out when a "non-American" takes on a traditionally "American" role? I remember all the uproar when Hugh Jackman was announced as Wolverine. He's Australian...with, you guess it, an Australian accent. And yet he was able to speak with an American accent (technically, it should be Canadian, but for the sake of argument...). And he was not a well-known actor at that time in the US. And what about Hugh Laurie of "House"? Bryan Singer thought he was an American in the audition tape. He's as British as they come. Same with Clive Owen in "Sin City". British actor...American accent.
And quite frankly, British actors are just frikkin better actors. Most (especially the older generation) are classically trained in Shakespearean theater. American actors are (for the most part) egotistical upstarts that couldn't act if their lives depended on it. Or, if they do have some sort of acting "skill" they can only play 1 type of role.
God save the Queen! - br0ken1128, on 10/25/2007, -0/+9Brandon works because he resembles Christopher Reeve so much, even his voice .. Brandon practically channels Chris ..
- Gir53457, on 10/27/2007, -1/+9What about his documentary, Highlander?
- j3one, on 10/26/2007, -0/+8wow. That was brutal...
- donte, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8Exactly. I loved the guy playing Superman. I want a new Lois Lane that isn't painful to watch.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/28/2007, -1/+8More like the Justice League of Undetermined Origin
- digghasnoethics, on 10/26/2007, -0/+7america..... truth.... justice....democracy..........
Nope sorry, just not getting it. Perhaps you should reconsider slightly, maybe aim a little lower. Something like "america: we lie well, will bow to companies and can be bought for the right price" - stotty, on 10/26/2007, -0/+7What the hell are you talking about? If anything, we don't use British shows, we just totally rip them off with our own failed versions. Cold Feet, Coupling, Men Behaving Badly, The Office, Doctor Who, Teachers, etc, etc. And we suck at it.
- Drgn547, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7He looks more like a Jimmy Olsen, rather than a Clark Kent/Supe
- svejoh, on 10/26/2007, -1/+8Superman One: Oh look... is it a stockbroker?
Superman Two: Is it a quantity Surveyor?
Superman Three: Is it a church warden?
All Supermen: NO! It's Bicycle Repair Man! - timewarp424, on 10/26/2007, -0/+7Have you ever heard of acting? Actors don't need to actually be or embody the characteristics of who they are playing, they just need to ...pretend... Otherwise, if that isn't true, Jack Nicholson is one creepy mother *****.
- Spoomeister, on 10/26/2007, -0/+6Nah, he'll have no problem changing clothes.
Police callboxes in England are bigger on the inside than they are on the outside. - Spoomeister, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6Fighting for Truth, Justice, and the American Way!
...just like Tony Blair. - pault107, on 10/26/2007, -2/+8Huh?
- josegutz, on 10/25/2007, -0/+6I say get Patrick Warburton to play Superman...
- Syric, on 10/26/2007, -0/+6Although he's likely a better actor than, say, Brandon Routh (who wasn't bad in SR, just too much of a novice), I'd still prefer Routh for cohesiveness' sake. Rupert Evans looks like something of a wimp, to me.
- Spoomeister, on 10/25/2007, -1/+7Ooh, wait. Superman gets his powers from the Sun. Which means in London he'd be Superman what, 6 days out of the year?
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -0/+6Don't forget taking Who Wants to be a Millionaire and halving the prize money, along with Pop Idol and turning it into some patriotic nonsense.
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -0/+6Attention: Not all British people speak like this.
- xstarsprinklesx, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5He's an alien anyway, so who cares?
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -2/+7Rupert Evans at 5'10 Superman? WTH? I would hope they put in a giant spider in there because you know spiders are the fiercest killers in the animal kingdom! And he better not wear a cape cos that's too faggy.
- MRintheKeys, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5Well he does look like an alien, unfortunately not enough like Kal-El to matter.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5its not about him being English its about destroying the storyline hes superman not Stewie from family guy
- Cyclops0T8, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5First of all, look at some other recent charactors:
Jack Baur by Kiefer Sutherland - Canadian actor
Batman by Christian Bale - Welsh actor
Secondly, Americans don't have sole claim to superman. The writer was American, but the artist who actually drew Superman (Joe Shuster) is Canadian. - inactive, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5So why don't American actors do it?
- Theisos, on 11/04/2007, -1/+6"...don't think he used his accent" That is so funny - considering he did use an accent when he played the FBI agent in Hellboy - an American one.
- Gir53457, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6Police Officer. Policeman is a bit sexist. (Hot Fuzz)
- cawpin, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5Brutal but funny.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -3/+7I think you meant to say Christopher Reeve.
- Spoomeister, on 10/26/2007, -2/+6Eddie Izzard for Superman!
- inthe80s, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4you're too big a Kevin Smith geek man... (and so am I for getting the reference I suppose)
- Gir53457, on 11/04/2007, -2/+6Of Welsh decent.
- gllopc, on 10/26/2007, -0/+4His chin is too weak to look like Superman. (Waiting to get dugg down)
- rhartman, on 10/26/2007, -0/+4I don't think anyone truly cares that this guy is British - it's simply that he looks more like an accountant than a superhero.
- Markpdotcom, on 10/26/2007, -1/+5One of the most well known actors (who I presume GerryBot is speaking of) that played James Bond wasn't even English, so, didn't have an English accent.
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -0/+4.... So I guess you think tights and a cape are manly....
