- vtbarrera, on 06/03/2009, -0/+8Tron ftw!
- GregDude, on 06/03/2009, -0/+7I was hoping Tales meant stories like Snow Crash and Neuromancer, or at least the best representations of VR like Disclosure and The Matrix. Oh well.
- DouglasQ, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6Dugg for Red Dwarf
- protogenxl, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6Missing Ghost In The Shell
- AlextheK, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6No Philip Dick? No "thirteenth floor?" No William Gibson?
This isn't a list of important VR stories. It's a list compiled by someone who is utterly ignorant of the history of the notion he's supposedly writing about. - bshep, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3What about VR5?
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3We are Veeeeeeeee Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3Jeff Fahey looks much better in Lost than in lawnmower man. :) Either that, or I have daddy issues.
- palehorse864, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I don't remember so well, but I though Ender's game displays were mostly holographic tactical maps and zero-g training rooms? Granted, the Star Trek TNG holodeck is holograms forcefields and replicated matter. I always envisioned Ender's game tech as more of a 3d holographic display that sat away from the user, but my memory of the book may not be perfect.
- mmmine, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Have you noticed that wanting to have sex with androids built for the purpose has become passe? It's such a quaint notion now that we want VR sex.
- directive0, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Smeggin' hell!
- smartguy4932, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2We are...
- soil, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Dugg for Tron and for helping me realize where I recognized that guy from, from Lost.
- abelpc, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1William Gibson - Neuromancer
- duncan202, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1I remember some mini-series called, I think, "Wild Palms" that looked like it was going to be filled with VR goodness, but really just sucked.
- oblivionatm, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Buried for no mention of Otherland.
- covertbadger, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Um, sci-fi has been around for about 200 years (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein was the first sci-fi). The earliest VR reference here is from 30 years ago. I think it's a bit of a stretch to say VR has been around "almost as long".
- AlextheK, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1VR has been around for some sixty years -- the earliest is probably Philip K. Dick's "Eye in the Sky." But this article is utterly ignorant pap.
- Takfam, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Death to the demoness, Allegra Geller.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Can't wait for TR2N, program!
- WalkerTXclocker, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Dugg for Hawking
- smartguy4932, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Thank You....I didn't think anyone would get it.
- DouglasQ, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1It was only a matter of time.
- WarMachineWCLH, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Come to papa.
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1I watched The Lawnmower Man and I'm currently rewatching Lost, and all I can think when I see Frank Lapidus is some simple minded guy who wants Jennay
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+1Lawnmower Man? Really??
Is this on here because they couldn't find anything else? - sponeil, on 06/03/2009, -0/+0The title is misleading. Should be "movies", not "tales". Otherworld is probably my favorite as far as a detailed description of a fully developed and evolving VR Internet.
- EnterDaMatrix, on 06/03/2009, -2/+1What, no Ender's Game? Poppycock!
