- shenerd, on 06/29/2009, -3/+31I can't believe that "Inside Man" isn't on the list. http://www.reelzchannel.com/trailer-clips/14240/in ...
Even though it did well at the box office, I just don't think it has gotten the appreciation it deserves. Especially given that it was such an odd choice for Spike Lee to direct it. - Lucas123, on 06/18/2009, -0/+22Dugg for Kelly's Heroes. Great flick.
- gl77, on 06/19/2009, -0/+17"Snatch" was a fairly good heist movie.
- DeadSkinMask, on 06/19/2009, -0/+14A couple of my favorites both star Al Pacino:
- Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
- Heat (1995) - efreeman, on 06/18/2009, -0/+13I hope my whole generation doesn't think of Matthau just for the Grumpy Old Men movies. Great actor.
- vtbarrera, on 06/18/2009, -0/+12I also remember him for starring in Dennis the Menace.
- lokee73, on 06/19/2009, -0/+10Can't vouch for the rest; but Kelly's Heroes is a great movie. Definitely worth seeing if you haven't already.
- sonnybobiche, on 06/19/2009, -0/+10I quite liked "The Bank Job" (2008). Political/Period/Heist/Blue Collar piece.
- fuzzyllama, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7I haven't seen either of the Pelham 123 movies, but my vote is definitely for Kelly's Heroes and Charley Varrick. Great movies!
- perre, on 06/19/2009, -1/+7Groundhog Day. Best heist movie ever.
...think about it - Lederhosed, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6This list needs Le Samourai, best heist movie ever
- glinsvad, on 06/19/2009, -2/+7Honorable mentions starring Robert De Niro:
- Ronin (1998)
- The Score (2001) - dalittle, on 06/19/2009, -0/+5Sexy Beast was a surprising good one.
- heretrix, on 06/19/2009, -1/+5The original Taking of Pelham 1,2,3 is one of my favorite flicks. It's definitely a testament of how great 70's film making was.A lot of that stuff still holds up.
- sodade, on 06/19/2009, -0/+3I bet that was intentional. Mann does a great job of doing his homework:
http://www.imfdb.org/index.php?title=Heat - Shakermaker, on 06/19/2009, -0/+3Totally agree. Robert Shaw was amazing in that film...
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2I'd add "Rafifi", "Thunderbolt & Lightfoot" and Mammet's "The Heist" to that list.
- RealmDown, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2Hopsctch
Hilarious movie, and one of his best, IMO. - rigwit, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Heist - Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito, Delroy Lindo
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -1/+3Dog Day Afternoon isn't really a heist film, more of a botched bank robbery/standoff. Excellent film though, Pacino's best performance. Love that there is nearly no music in it.
- weister42, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2The gunfight scene in the movie Heat (1995) has one of the best surround sound recordings I've ever heard, the echos of the rat-tat-tating guns are unreal.
- TwwIX, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2Bill Murray's Quick Change.
- mrogi, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2The great director Stanley Kubrick in 1956 delivered a masterpiece of a heist movie titled, The Killing.
- Shakermaker, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 was underrated?? I didn't know that. It's a brilliant and classic film.
- LoudMusic, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2Meh.
Mostly just glad they didn't put Dead Presidents in the list - that movie sucked monkey nuts. - glenshaw26, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2When Heat first came out I didn't like it...only after repeated viewings on cable did I finally see all the character's nuances, noticed the incredible score and understood the whole plot. This is my plea to anyone who only saw this once to give it another shot. IMO Michael Mann's best work to date.
- ace429k, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1it was good. I refute your claim.
- kitsua, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Great list, no doubt, but Stanley Kubrick's 'The Killing' is one of the most taught and brilliant heist movies ever created. Laid the groundwork for the playful mixing up of time structures that Tarantino used in Reservoir Dogs.
Any fan of heist films (or just films in general) should watch it. Actually, any fan of films should just watch all of Kubrick's films. Then watch them again. - inactive, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Dugg you for digging a guy that dugg Kelly's Heroes.
Then I undugg you for undigging him and then redugg you because you were right afterall. - teamgwho, on 06/19/2009, -1/+2Ronin was awesome, as was the original Oceans 11. The Bank job was very good also.
Inside Man was excellent, but doesn't really belong on the underrated list. Come to think of it, neither does Ronin or O11 because they are generally well regarded.
Maybe the list should be "top heist films you may have overlooked" - bigteebo, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Kelly's Heroes = inspiration for Battlefield: Bad Company?
- kitsua, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Come on people, The Odd Couple?! *****, that movie made me laugh 'til I cried.
- notzak, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1"Rififi" not "Rafifi"- arguably the first heist film, 1950's French. I'd recommend any film buff to see it.
- jbmcb, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Rififi is considered to be one of the best heist films of all times, I don't think it's necessarily underrated.
- kitsua, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I always loved that movie. The new one looks awful.
- KenSPT, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1God how I miss old school artistic movie posters ...
- sodade, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Totally agree. Right up there with Heat. Jodie Foster's character is ***** awesome.
- idsfa, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Excellent contribution!
- lamejoketeller, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1"Your Netflix queue has been updated."
- sharedknowledge, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1got to agree with rigwit.. excellent suggestion.
- david4041, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1How about "The Hot Rock," with Robert Redford, George Segal and Zero Mostel?
- jbmcb, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Ronin = Mamet = Best heist film writer of all time
- StolenLamp, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Oceans 11 and 13 are my favorites. 12 never happened.
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -0/+0It definitely is, and thanks for the correction.
- RealmDown, on 06/19/2009, -1/+1"ffolkes"
- diggyduggle, on 06/19/2009, -1/+1Aren't some of the only successful multi-million dollar robberies done by robbing armored cars?
At least in America. - RudeTurnip, on 06/19/2009, -1/+1This list is incomplete without Danger: Diabolik.
- heretrix, on 06/19/2009, -0/+0Nor should it be. That was an awesome flick with one of the most memorable heists in movie history.
- mattgil, on 06/19/2009, -1/+1Kelly's Heroes is a great pick, have had that DVD for quite some time.
Not that it is underrated, but anyone who has not seen Heat, needs to run, not walk to the store and pick it up. Warner Bros. get off you butts and get it out on Blu Ray! - smaustin, on 06/19/2009, -0/+0He's great in "A Guide For the Married Man" where he's trying to learn how to cheat on his wife. Netflix instant.
