- harrisbradley, on 07/08/2009, -2/+93Passion of the Christ, I never saw that coming. They killed the main character.
- fluidfoundation, on 07/08/2009, -2/+78The dramatic twist to The Number 23 was that I couldn't get my ***** money back.
- Leminnes, on 07/08/2009, -3/+65Dugg for a single page.
- jmdwinter, on 07/08/2009, -6/+60I think his reasons for disliking Fight Club should apply to The Usual Suspects. "...the fact that everything we saw was a lie." The Usual Suspects is just a fairytale concocted by an unreliable narrator. The fun of a twist ending should be in the value you get from rewatching a movie and noticing how the twist is woven into the storyline. There is zero satisfaction in rewatching Usual Suspects. A very overrated movie. Fight Club, on the other hand, has plenty of hints strewn about. There are even subliminal images of Tyler Durden inserted near the beginning when Edward Norton starts to go crazy. This article has it all backward in my opinion.
- Tayloristehsux, on 07/08/2009, -2/+43Fight Club was only a "cop-out" to you, you moronic writer, because you've probably seen a bunch of other copycat movies cop-out by using similar psychological storylines.
- trav3135, on 07/08/2009, -0/+37I would not even consider No Countrys ending a twist.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+35They left out film history's most memorable twist ever...
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back - Bulletbillx, on 07/08/2009, -0/+29Yeah. He was better in stuff like The Majestic and Eternal Sunshine anyways.
- cococrispies, on 07/08/2009, -0/+28FTA:
"The Usual Suspects
Considered the best twist ending by many people, it was hard to put this so far down at #3. I’ve seen a couple people put this crime thriller starring Kevin Spacey on “Worst Twist Endings” lists, but those people are just idiots wanting to sound smarter and more sophisticated than everyone else."
It seems like this is the exact reason that he placed Fight Club on his so-so list. - Plopfish, on 07/08/2009, -0/+26What I really hated about Signs was that you have aliens capable of traveling vast distances in space and yet choose to visit a planet that is made up of 70% of what is essentially skin eating acid to them (water) and don't even bother wearing protective space suits.
W.T.F - Kuestionmark, on 07/08/2009, -1/+25Jim Carrey didn't need "The number 23" to prove he can be a serious actor.
- feelmypimphand, on 07/08/2009, -0/+23or even better...
The Truman Show - sotbat2, on 07/08/2009, -2/+22Well, that was the worst movie list I've seen in a while. No Country For Old Men has the tenth worst twist ending? I don't like to tell people that they "don't get" a movie, but... they just don't get it.
"There is a point when a personal opinion shades off into an error of fact. When you say 'The Valachi Papers' is a better film than 'The Godfather,' you are wrong." - Gene Siskel
I think it's safe to say their personal opinion shades off into the error of fact. - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -16/+33Saw was one of the best IMO
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+17"The Oscar-winning drama-thriller really doesn’t have a twist ending..."
Um, so why is it on this list? - njpsychopath, on 07/08/2009, -0/+16not to mention water is in our air in vapor form at all times, and it randomly falls from the sky.
That sounds about as inhospitable a planet as possible. - darthashwin, on 07/08/2009, -4/+19i would not even consider No countrys ending as an Ending ..it just stops abruptly
- devophl, on 07/08/2009, -0/+14No Country plays more like a documentary than a movie... The end gives meaning to the title of the movie... "You fight the good fight but in the end, evil is still there and keeps coming back for more..." It took me about 10 minutes to really see why the film had to end that way and I respect the Coen brothers for not "going Hollywood" on the plot.
- stonebone4, on 07/08/2009, -1/+15"Mulholland Drive
No one really knows what David Lynch’s movie is about..."
Actually, plenty of people do. I like how this guy complains about endings and entire movies "not making sense" just because he doesn't take time to work things out and understand them. I bet he loves the new Transformers. - Yetisquatch, on 07/08/2009, -0/+12damnit man, i havent seen it yet!
- zingo70, on 07/08/2009, -2/+13When I saw Signs and Fight Club mentioned in the same category, I wanted to throw up.
- protogenxl, on 07/08/2009, -0/+11Minority Report? What the hell is wrong with this guy?
- dayoldblues, on 07/08/2009, -2/+12*SPOILER ALERT*

/overall reader satisfaction - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10"I’ve seen a couple people put this crime thriller starring Kevin Spacey on “Worst Twist Endings” lists, but those people are just idiots wanting to sound smarter and more sophisticated than everyone else."
How could one possibly argue with such fine reasoning... - danwallace, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10Only if you expected a good movie.
- Plopfish, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10No for Bale it was a twin brother. The other dude wanted a teleporter to mimic his trick and got Tesla to build one. But it actually created a clone and teleported the original\clone (is there really a difference) to the other location, thus the dude kept killing the clone\original. You see that at the end.
- toxicityj, on 07/08/2009, -0/+9It blew my mind. It came completely out of left field and I was left thinking, "what the *****!?". That right there makes for a good twist ending.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8This guy is way too concerned with what other lists put
- ServerOfJustice, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8No, he was unaware of the machine until the end, no? And his brother was there the whole time, with explicit mentions of their double lives and the scene in which fingers are amputated to more exactly emulate oneanother.
Only Hugh Jackman (and a cat) have copies made of themselves, and there are never two Jackmans alive for long... - zerinS4, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8Dugg for Arlington Road.
- bigthree, on 07/08/2009, -7/+15goof collection, but Saw was a solid ending
- acehorne, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8I sort of agree with that sentiment because of the fact that he puts Citizen Kane on the list of "So-So". I'd say it only seem "So-So" now in that it has been continually ripped of since the 40s.
- runep, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8I dug you up just for calling him Shyamalamadingdong. I do that too.
- devophl, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8I always liked the end of "The Sting" where Redford's character appears to turn on Newman's character and they both shoot each other. Then you hear "all clear" and they both get up and smile at each other. It had me going for a while!
- danwallace, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7Way to lose all credibility by trying to pimp your own article in an unrelated comment.
- danwallace, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7That's because nobody saw it.
- mogdor, on 07/08/2009, -1/+8A lot of people I know thought "The Village" was stupid. The ending was somewhat predictable, but only because Shyamalamadingdong is known for having those twists. Overall I thought it was a pretty good drama though, an enjoyable movie at the least.
- Kyrasis, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6In a surprise twist, "Knowing" is not on the list for worst twist endings.
- paulvq, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6Did this guy see the same Minority Report that I did?
"He sets out to kill the creator of the program, thus triggering the system to alert the authorities."
That's totally untrue.
Also for "No Country", he says the Coens never explained how Josh Brolin's character died. It's incredibly obvious that Josh Brolin got killed by the drug dealers who also get the money back. - thefangedrabbit, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6Well, he left out a TON of stuff in his description. Like the shot of Leonard in bed with his wife, with tattoos all over himself, including a new one that says "I've done it"...
- chuckDontSurf, on 07/08/2009, -1/+7"The Devil's Advocate" wasn't a twist ending; it was a cop-out, no different than a dream sequence. Christ that pissed me off. I'd like to believe they shot another, darker ending that test screened poorly, so the studios wussed out and used the lame ending.
- reddyap1, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6Anyone ever see the movie Frailty. I Loved the ending and I am surprised I never see it mentioned on any of these lists.
- DarthVolta, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5I came here to say the exact thing about No Country.
I'm the same way - I feel like an ***** saying that people who don't like the ending didn't 'get it,' but it's true. It's not an action movie. It's a film about violence and plenty of other things that happens to have action.
I think the ending was great - it gave me goosebumps. - protogenxl, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5Here I will spoil the ending to Lost for you.
For the last shot they will slowly pull out until you see that the island is in a snowglobe and the entire series of Lost occurred in the mind of an autistic child named Tommy Westphall
http://home.vicnet.net.au/~kwgow/themultiverse.pdf - g5gt, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5what a twist.
- mogdor, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5Well it wasn't really a "twist" ending.......they revealed all the alien stuff right from the start.
- GorfTron, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5Ya, alien henchmen that are destroyed by water. I mean, why not? Water is such a rare compound. How would they ever get water on them?
- LacY, on 07/08/2009, -1/+6About 20 (or less) minutes into "The Village", I turned to my friend and said "I so bet they're in the present day..." There was just something about the way they talked/their outfits, and someone mentioning a family member being killed behind a dumpster or in an alley (it was something that wasn't actually anachronistic, but it just felt wrong for the time period) that immediately made me think that either this was a poorly done period peice, or it was present day. And adding in that M Knight *always* has a twist... it wasn't much of a leap.
- brandnewx, on 07/08/2009, -1/+6Will LOST end up in the best or the worst? So far it seems good. I don't know how they're going to connect to saving the world though.
And yes this comment is not funny. Bury with a digger's instinct if you'd like to. - onederboy, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5I always thought of Coen Bros. films differently. It's like they find interesting pieces of people's lives and share them with you. It's not about beginnings or endings, but telling a part of their story.
Then again devophl has a good point, too. -
