- gwaggy12, on 09/19/2008, -4/+87Most of these posters are more interesting than the movies they advertise
- inactive, on 09/19/2008, -0/+51Weird...
They're all aestetically great, but some of them are just completely detached from the actual movie.
WTF is up with weekend at Bernie's? - t3hmyth, on 09/19/2008, -1/+40Brilliant posters. However, some of the posters make the advertised film look darker/more bizarre than the film really is, e.g. Tootsie, Terms of Endearment, WarGames, etc..
- giraffedude, on 09/19/2008, -0/+32polska FTW
- ajaxmil, on 09/19/2008, -0/+28dugg for doing the impossible feat of making Weekend at Bernie's look artistic.
- Chebsi, on 09/19/2008, -1/+26One page and great content! Excellent submission. These are better than most Hollywood ads.
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 09/18/2008, -3/+23Wow! Cool stuff. Thanks.
If you could really judge a movie by the poster, the one for "A weekend at Bernie's" would have you thinking "Oscar contender". - mooseofshadows, on 09/19/2008, -0/+19You didn't forget poland!
- hoodoodave, on 09/19/2008, -2/+17Why does Hollywood keep giving us the "Giant Head Floating Over the Title" crap when we could have awesome posters like these?
- timfitz99, on 09/19/2008, -0/+15Wow! Interesting how most are so firmly rooted in 1960s pop-art aesthetic... even the newer ones. The one for "Willow" is extraordinarily vague... would never guess it's for a fantasy film. Most of these are beautiful!
- anevaude, on 09/19/2008, -0/+14If these are impressive, you'll have to take a look at Walkuski. Your jaw will drop: http://www.poster.com.pl/walkuski-1.htm
(note: there's a stray breast here and there, nothing more sexual than Venus de Milo) - KidArtemis, on 09/19/2008, -0/+12Would have been nice if the American movie posters were next to the Polish ones to compare.
- The_Wallbanger, on 09/19/2008, -1/+13War Games = Gay Wojenne?
- roessnakhan, on 09/19/2008, -1/+12I really want that Raging Bull poster. The Tootsie poster seems more appropriate for the Silence of the Lambs.
- negrin, on 09/19/2008, -0/+11Ah yes. The Polish school of poster art used to be a big thing back in the day. And very characteristic, as you can see. Sadly, no works like that around anymore. Well, except for some theater posters maybe.
Nowadays it's just international poster art with lame-o Polish taglines slapped on. My recent favorite example: the Polish tagline for My Mom's New Boyfriend is "When Zorro Met Sally". I ***** you not. (For anyone puzzled: go to IMDb and check the lead actors on this thing.) - redscofield, on 09/19/2008, -0/+9Breakfast at Tiffany's is so elegant... i would totally buy that and hang it in the house... it's beautiful...
- blademanx, on 09/19/2008, -1/+10Harry and the Hendersons is ***** epic.
- metapop, on 09/19/2008, -3/+11empire strikes back wins. amazing.
- thundercloud39, on 09/19/2008, -0/+7I'm willing to bet a Polish zloty that the artist didn't even watch the half of the movies beforehand (or perhaps was on an acid trip). Still cool.
- petebot, on 09/19/2008, -1/+8Yeah, these are pretty trippy. I especially like the Fatal Attraction one/.
- esbi, on 09/19/2008, -0/+6"Gry Wojenne"
- alexzizka, on 09/18/2008, -6/+12wonderful submission!
- Sturmur, on 09/19/2008, -2/+8The Superman III Poster is awesome.

- pingpants, on 09/19/2008, -1/+6I own that Fly poster but want Rosemary's Baby.
- Qwijibo, on 09/19/2008, -1/+6Am I the only one that had to look up to see the WarGames was Gry Wojenne and not Gay Wojenne
- redscofield, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5Weekend At Bernie never looked so good...
- orlyfactor, on 09/19/2008, -1/+6Way to completely blank out my post, digg.
- ashura001, on 09/19/2008, -1/+5International Talk Like a Pirate Day FTW!
- jonmlm, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4incredible posters.. i need that alphaville one
- metapop, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4tootsie
starring marilyn manson - stateofmind, on 09/19/2008, -1/+4Exactly. They are great (excellent actually) on their own. But as representations of the movies they are advertising... no. (Except for a few... Apocalypse now, Fatal Attraction, etc...)
- SpeedStix, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3That or hammered...Polish people like their vodka =D
We actually make many many different vodkas, even ones that are naturally flavoured.
Some of them taste really good. - jonshipman, on 09/19/2008, -2/+5Quite amazin'! As a designer I wonder why American cinema advertisin' be dumbed down as it is, me mateys!
- roadkillkid, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3http://www.polishposter.com/
I ordered two earlier this year from them (Paris, Texas and Un Chien Andalou). They both arrived about a week later in perfect condition. Cost inc. shipping was about $100. I had them framed and they now take pride of place in my living room and spare bedroom. Great buy. - flyingclutchman, on 09/19/2008, -6/+9You are just not high class enough to be able to tell how artistic these really are.
- SpeedStix, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Zloty = gold pieces
- harrisbradley, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3I have never been to Hollywood, Poland.
- purzzzell, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3I'm not digging this b/c they're awesome (though they are) - I'm digging this b/c the author was polite enough to cram them all on ONE PAGE for me.
- ghanes14, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Some of those were just flat out strange!
- nmezib, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3indeed, for a while there I thought I was browsing through the catalogue of a modern art museum
- Eagle193, on 09/19/2008, -5/+8Very...different. I suppose that it's an acquired taste.
- nickert0n, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3LOL @ Crocodile Dundee 2
- rootsm3, on 09/19/2008, -1/+4Wow those are amazing.
- anevaude, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Probably why they came out the way they did. :)
- yedas44, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3movie posters were never screened by the communist government at the time so a lot of the artists put political messages into them. this might explain why some of the posters are not relevant to the movies. most great works of art though
- jcorn1, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3I absolutely agree with you about Tootsie. Not sure I can be objective about War Games, though. The poster captured the terror I felt, seeing it as a younger viewer.
- sursubbu, on 09/19/2008, -2/+5This was genuinely awesome. Thanks a lot for this very interesting link. A fair number of those posters are brilliant.
- dstz, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2Unusual art makes the world seem a little bigger in a time when uniformity is creeping everywhere.
- inactive, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2American movie posters aren't too hard to top... They always seem to feature the 3 main actors (with their names written on top in the wrong order) staring off into space with constipated looks on their faces, giving no preview or teaser to the film itself other than who's in it and what you can gather from the clothes they are wearing.
