- 8bitflu, on 11/20/2008, -2/+21I like the creative one. It's AWESOME!
- sephiroth965, on 11/20/2008, -0/+18Primer and Brick were both incredible films.
- thegamingguy, on 11/19/2008, -0/+16Most of those are awesome, and true to most movie poster "templates" the "independent" look is becoming stock too.
- reuscel, on 11/20/2008, -1/+15Dugg for including "Brick." A great and surprising film.
- TheSum, on 11/20/2008, -0/+11Actually The Machinist is one of the best of the lot.
- disraeligears54, on 11/19/2008, -2/+11dugg for some exquisite films
- jonshipman, on 11/20/2008, -0/+8I like the one about the independent film. It's AWESOME!
- HyphySoul, on 11/20/2008, -2/+8These posters make me want to watch some of these movies, most of them I haven't heard of but they have a great cast
- captainbethany, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6I loved Eagle vs. Shark. So strange, but so good.
- mongrel, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6WTF is "Zoo?" Is that man about to face-rape that horse?
- BoneheadFarker, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6The only thing I learned from all that was that Bill Murray really likes to do independant films...
- chuuch, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5Did Independent movie studios only start creating movie posters in 1999 or do the writers at Smash Magazine only remember the last 10 years?
- principlePwr, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5Seriously? That movie was way too extreme to be realistically applicable. It didn't leave me thinking of anything but 'what the *****.' Actually now that I've said these things, it's starting to convince me that it actually was a good movie...
- vidiot2332, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5so cool posters, but Independent? only like half...
- tattoojoo, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5actually, she didn't really cut off his beanbag.
- disraeligears54, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4What you didn't consider that a classic??
/s - mkameli, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Amen. "Primer" is the kind of movie that every digger needs to see. So friggin great. "You want to get some food? I haven't eaten since later this afternoon."
- oep4, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4paranoid park's poster sucked.
- lunachique, on 11/20/2008, -3/+7The Descent poster is amazing. That movie scared the living crap out of me.
- gregatron, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4dugg for Primer. Absolutely Incredible film
- drewbeta, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5"Indie" basically means not made by a Hollywood studio. That doesn't mean that they are low-budget, the would be a "B Movie"
- acroyear2, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5I highly recommend "Hard Candy"
- HeatVision, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Interesting how the article starts off redefining what an "independent film" is, since most of these are not what would pass for truly independent films (biggest exception being Primer). These are just smaller budget films, the majority being produced within the studio system that gives us the big budget films. However, there are some cool posters there.
- polkadotdotdot, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4you're close-
according to IMDB "A look at the life of a Seattle man who died as a result of an unusual encounter with a horse." - geniusNOTatWORK, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Never read the article but was it this one?
http://wellmedicated.com/inspiration/50-incredible ... - Twag86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Dugg for the Proposition. Amazing movie.
- TheBlindGuy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3But it was Gus van sant so it must be good.
- Luciapalooza, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Tideland was a totally ***** up, well made movie
- cadmiumpaint, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3i'm really over smashing magazine over-using words like "beautiful", "exquisite", "extraordinary" etc etc to describe every list they make.
- tattoojoo, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Dugg for 'Before the Devil Knows You're Dead'
I have two words: Marisa Tomei - timothycrash01, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Ha - thanks stonebone4. I hadn't watched the new one! Didn't realize he did it too 'cause I avoided all info on it. ;-) Too bad if the remake is poorly done.
Re: fourth wall: Woody Allen did it a lot in the 70's and 80's and I thought he was successful. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is recent film that tried (mainly in narration though) and I loved that film. - 8bitflu, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3You're a learning computer. Don't hurt wolfy.
- eleven, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Someone's a little touchy about androgynous 14 year old girls.
- oep4, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3yeah...they try too hard
- timothycrash01, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Watch the original directed by Michael Haneke. You might like it more.

Awesome filmmaker. - Slacker1031, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2these really blew me away, a lot of them really capture the passion and motivation that is so alive in the Independent Film Industry.
- acash0902, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Brutal movie
- latexsolarbeef, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2YES! Those are the ones. Now honestly, can these independent posters hold a candle???
- drewbeta, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I couldn't imagine designing a movie poster. Often-times the posters are done before the movie is, and the poster designer has not actually seen the movie. I could imagine that it would be pretty tricky.
- stonebone4, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2It's about Mr. Hands.
Seriously. - sarajsn, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Lost in translation! one of my favorites!
- Carramrod72, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Agreed. Underrated....
- timothycrash01, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Ya - not only does she get ***** for like 30 minutes of that movie but it is also directed by one of the greatest directors in history: Sidney Lumet. (Network, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, 12 Angry Men, Failsafe, etc.)
- acroyear2, on 11/20/2008, -1/+3^ spoiler alert
androgynous 14 year old-looking (she wasn't really 14), Ellen Paige ftw - ABJ974, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Great set of posters. Never seen many of these movies but the posters look awesome.
- aristideau, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2These are my favourites:
Man Bites Dog - http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3340278016/tt0103905 (Went to the premiere of this and I had never seen a mocumentary so for part f the movie I thought it was real)
Happiness - http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1733598208/tt0147612 - Spartandog, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2A refreshing break from the cheap-looking movie-star-face-collages we keep seeing.
- stonebone4, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808279/
He directed the shot-for-shot remake too.
I got what he was going for, and it was an interesting premise; I just didn't like the way it was carried out. I've been convinced for years that the only people ever allowed to break the fourth wall are Zack Morris, Wayne Campbell, and Ferris Beuller. - aristideau, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Same, I remember I first heard on a My Bloody Valentine forum that Coppola was going to have music from Death in Vegas, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain (my top three fave bands) in her new Romantic Comedy. I thougth WTF, those bands in a romantic comedy??, it will never work.
Then I saw the film and the soundtrack is perfect.
(Those bands play in most scenes where Bill Murray is in a taxi). - techguru2006, on 11/20/2008, -2/+3Dugg for becoming popular with 100 diggs and 5 comments.
