- adam8281, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13what the hell do you mean "not to be mean, but why would you want to live like that? I would kill myself." That's about the meanest thing you can say, basically declaring that his life is worthless. It's pretty easy to say, when we are healthy and fine, "Oh, I would never want to live like _____, I would just off myself," but it's another thing when you actually do have some horrible condition, and see that life is still worth living, as many people do who have such conditions.

Way to be an *****. - thenorwegian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6there's a bunch of dicks on digg, this proves it. selfish dicks who dont have the right to be breathing. this man is an inspiration; its funny how i took it. I'm sitting here thinking 'wow...i feel like i've taken life for granted.' and these dicks are sitting here saying 'he should kill himself.' just goes to show how people are these days
- HeapAlloc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know... seems really weird to track-down his old doctor like that
Doctor gives you 6 years, but you only get 2: you have a right to be angry
Doctor gives you 6 years, but you get 30+ and counting: that's a pretty good deal...
"How does he do 3D animation with one finger? Not being crass, just wondering."
Same here - jmstewart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3tituskashmarek, agreed - I only wish in my life I can amount to 1% of his accomplishments, I know I will never get that far, this is truely an inspiration and i cant wait to see the film.
- adam8281, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How does he do 3D animation with one finger? Not being crass, just wondering.
- beasty_dave_Mk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are +1,300 suicide jumpers who jumped off the golden gate bridge. From the 26 people who have survived the jump, most say within the first second, they totally regretted thier choice.
so yeah, ya only realize life is precious when it's about to end.
Or when you watch the futurama episode where fry's dog waits 12 years for him and dies alone. :( - merdeisel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3people who are born with ***** like this and dont let it hold them back are awsome.
- RobSaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, lets hope errer remains and healthy and never has to try to do anything with just one finger, because with comments like that he'd be lucky to have one finger left!
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awesome. I am also underweight due to my multiple physical disabilities (Nager's Syndrome). I used to weight less than 80 lbs for a 5'2" college student. :(
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know, I used to read stuff like this, and think, I would never let myself get anywhere near that. It is all or nothing.. Thats what I tho't. Then my liver gave out.
If you lose less than half your abilities at a time, and have time to get over it, you would truly be amazed at much you can still enjoy living!! I tho't I knew what I was talking about, but I was sure wrong. You will find, that you want to live, even you had to paint with your tongue. Someone I read about does that....
Me? I can still ride my bike, in good weather, and the help of a trickle charger, cause I can't kick her. hehehehe
Cyborg - ScottTFrazer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Obviously, I'm new at this.
http://www.timeoutchicago.com/Details.do?xyurl=xyl://TOCWebArticles2/41/film/39_pounds_of_love.xml - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's amazing. I'm sure he's quite an inspiration to those with physical limitations.
- spicky04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Or when you watch the futurama episode where fry's dog waits 12 years for him and dies alone. :("
coudln't agree more - booc0mtaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I read somewhere once that the skeleton for an average sized man weighs about 30 pounds. Assuming he has a normal skeletal weight (highly unlikely), it makes you see the severity of his condition. Truly amazing story.
- Hiker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've actually talked to the guy on IRC. English isn't his first language but it's an odd feeling talking to him. It's kind of interesting that this story would pop up on digg (even tho "39 pounds of love" and his story is a bit on the old side, it's great to see it even APPEAR)
- tafty86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Touching, and at first I thought this was a fake or joke story. DIGG!!!
- Charlos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great story. It shows that no matter what life gives you, you can make something of yourself.
- ScottTFrazer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Potentially amazing story, but the film isn't getting great reviews...
Here's one from Timeout - Rudrasksha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It was the most heart-felt, inspirational story I have read on digg.
And one, I absolutely can not stand any sarcastic jerks commenting on.
- adam8281, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2on saying "if I were him I'd kill myself": This absolutely is a scummy thing to say. 1) it is offensive. 2) it is spoken from ignorance. On (1), saying you'd kill yourself if you were in someone else's shoes is not a benign "everybody's different" expression; it's rude and heartless. It's easy to think of examples of how saying what you think you would do if you had someone else's lot is rude. Here's a few: "If I was as fat as you, I'd go on a hardcore diet!" "If I looked as ugly as you, I'd either get plastic surgery, or spend my life hiding in my room." "If I was as unintelligent as you, I wouldn't even try to finish school, I'd just loaf at home and collect checks." Implicit in your expression of what YOU would do is a veiled critique of what THEY are doing, and that's why the statement "I'd kill myself if I were him" is so offensive; whether you mean to or not, there is an implication that he's "off" for not killing himself already. Regarding (2), it's just stupid to say that you would kill yourself if you were in his shoes. It's so common to hear people say, "I'd rather be dead than paralyzed," yet it is just as common to see paralyzed people who are leading relatively happy lives, and who certainly don't wish that they were dead. What this tells me is that it is hard to gauge the worth (or worthlessness) of a type of life until you are living it. The in-shape guy thinks "I'd rather be dead than 500 pounds." The 500-pounder thinks "I'd rather be dead than paralyzed." The paralyzed thinks "I'd rather be dead than a gimp." The gimp thinks, "I'd rather be dead than retarded." On down the chain it goes, yet very few of those people are thinking "I'd rather be dead than be who I currently am." From the relative vantage point of "health," other ways of life may appear worthless or less desirable than death, but this is a stupid sentiment because the worth of relative desirability of the "less-healthy" ways of life cannot be determined until one is actually living them. Mr. 39-pounds obviously thinks his life is worth living, and my bet is that if you actually somehow found yourself in his situation, you wouldn't be as quick to pull the trigger as you think you would.
- xt0ph3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, nice. Check out Ami's homepage at http://www.amirama.com/ . You can see more animations there as well, though the site looks a bit old.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yes...
and I love movies like this :) - stretchdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm still trying to do the math...
He looks like a full grown yet small adult man.
While I've never weighed my bones, I assumed that they would weigh more than 50 pounds at least. Am I wrong?
Even Mary Kate Olson (or was it Ashley?) weighed more than 39 pounds, and they looked like Skeletor. This guy looks healthy compared to that... - Disease, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Trailer works for me. As for him being able to do 3D animation with one finger amazes me. I can't even do 3D modeling with both my hands. Very touching story.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow.
- rebz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does the trailer work for anyone?
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't wait to see that movie.
- tituskashmarek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"there's a bunch of dicks on digg, this proves it. selfish dicks who dont have the right to be breathing. this man is an inspiration; its funny how i took it. i think this story is awesome... i totally agree with thenorwegian - bitshifter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Pssssh, so what? I weight a lot more than THAT.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0:relatives dancing to La Cucaracha in the foreground, noisily:

- ironbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice story. It's 63% (fresh) at Rotten Tomatoes.
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/39_pounds_of_love/ - Bocaj22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yea inspirational story, but the movie looks really cheesy
- RMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow... I had problems doing 3D MODELING let alone animation. And I've got two working hands. Good for him.
I'd like to also point out how many ass holes are on Digg.
"Too bad his animation looks totally ugly."
How in the ***** could you be so heartless. Let's see you do better.
"that guy would be nice to have in a backpack and you could lug him around like a laptop. he could take notes and manage your ipod playlists with voice commands."
Let's see how'd you like it if you weighed 39lbs.
I honestly hope the two of you burn in hell.
How does he do 3D animation with one finger? Not being crass, just wondering.
My thoughts exactly... - Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lol, I the end where he says "I hate this song", I couldn't agree more!
Thats pretty cool, I can barly animate anthing, let alone use 1 finger on my off hand.
+Digg - ssaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The trailer looks quite interesting...
- wuleidando, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"39 punds huh"?

"Yesterday, just as I was finishing my last bit of Humus -- by the way, there is no humus like the kind here in Tel Aviv: IT'S THE BEST!"
YES!!! oh man I wish I had some good humus right now and a butt-load of fresh pita. *drools* The man may be 39 lbs but he has damn good taste.
I hope he wins the Oscar, sounds like a great story. - Half-Fast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What a spirit. Searching for the doctor that told his mother he wouldn't live 6 yrs. just to tell the guy he was wrong. I gotta see this movie.
- saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He has a great personality in light of his situation, very inspirational.
