- Darren07, on 12/04/2008, -0/+15"2500 theaters" and "2500 screens" is not the same thing!
- bixby1, on 12/02/2008, -1/+13I'm surprised it took this long to pull off. Looking forward to it.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 12/02/2008, -0/+10The last 3D film I saw in the theater was 'Jaws 3D' (I Know!). I can't wait to see how the new cinema technology appears on screen.
- thephosphorbox, on 12/04/2008, -0/+7When they decide to start using 3D as more than just a gimmick, I'll be interested.
- fcrow, on 12/02/2008, -1/+7It will only take off when you stop needing those glasses and there are cheap ways to add that 3rd dimension to new movies.
- Dalhectar, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6Personally, I'm more excited that this means more theaters will be able to have digital projectors for 2D movies. Iron Man looked awesome on a digital screen, better than a regular projector when I saw it a second time. Hopefully more movies will be shown on digital projectors and screens even if they are just 2D.
- Abbasucked, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6Another 3d fad? This happened in the 50's, although I would love to see Dial M for Murder in it's whole 3D goodness, I'm not sure how many film makers will be able to avoid the humdrum clichés of ooooooh it's jumping out at us.
- solld3th, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6One step closer to 3-D porn! hopefully it'll still work then
- erichh, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4All very well - but it doesn't change the fact the the UK is wayyyy behind in this. My local cinema barely has a screen you can see in 2d let alone 3d.
- shrikedoa, on 12/04/2008, -1/+5Just one more reason not to step foot in a theater ever again. Good work, Hollywood.
- habenneas, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4Call the 80's, they can help you.
- dfekke, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4How many theaters have digital projection now? Seems overly optimistic to me to reach 2500 theaters in a year.
- Electrosaurus, on 12/04/2008, -0/+4Meh. Hollywood marketing gimmicks afoot.
If a film shot in 3D can't hold up just as well when viewed in 2D (i.e., at home). Then it's a gimmick to me... - Dr3w, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3But by then you'll be asking for interactive porn, with touch resistance and so on. If you give a mouse some a cookie...
- av4rice, on 12/04/2008, -1/+4"Then rotate it 90 degrees. You shouldn't be able to see through anymore."
So you take glasses that are like this:
o --- o
and rotate them 90 degrees, which makes them like this:
o

o
Well of course you can't see through them; they're not lined up with your eyes anymore. - centran, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3They give you "disposable" ones now. You can keep them or choose to recycle them. They don't stop you at the door with a scanner anymore.
You need those glasses because the screen projects a polarized image. The glasses cancel out one of the polarized images. It switches between your left and right eye. Next time you are at a 3D show take your friends glasses and put it up to yours. Then rotate it 90 degrees. You shouldn't be able to see through anymore.
Now the only thing they need to do is if you choose to keep your glasses instead of recycle them then you don't have to pay the extra $2 dollars or maybe discount it to only a dollar. - GODdestroyer, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Don't forget James Cameron's "Avatar" due Dec 2009 shot in his new bifocal stereoscopic camera!! Live action 3-D is going to be awesome as well.
- qback27, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Allvery well but the UK is wayyyyy behind. My local cinema can barely get 2d projection right let alone 3d. I could get a better picture using a candle and a shoe box. I'd pay a premium for a decent seat and great presentation.
- NomortaL1, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2good point
- antdude, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Higher prices. :(
- lpoql, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2and Pixar's "Up" June 2009. This is going to be a good year for 3D!
- 4NDr01D, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Do Not Want
I know for a fact Scorsese would never use such gimmicky crap - gcnaddict, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2I saw Bolt in 3D here at my local AMC theaters. It's basically IMAX. They make use of two projectors with polarized filters. The only difference is that IMAX theaters also have absurdly high-res footage, which isn't the case here.
On that note, it was awesome! :D - inactive, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2lol, made the same comment...
http://digg.com/movies/Studios_Have_All_Eyes_on_th ... - Todles, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2will there be a sequel, pirates vs ninjas, ide watch that.
- Shivan57, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2I enjoy the 3D experience. Nightmare Before Christmas wasn't anything special (the blu-ray is MAGNIFICENT however) and Journey to the Center of the Earth was a lot of fun, but all in all, the more the use it, the better the tech will get. The better the tech, the more people will want to come and watch. Then they'll start the next project, putting us /in/ the movies we watch!
- Brokley, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2I think I'd ***** my pants if I saw a horror movie in 3D
- toxsid, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Unimpressed. 3D was so last decade, bring it on 4D. stupid hollywood, you cant fool me.
- Sornos, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2There's a "ride" at Disney World that is a whole tactile experience. It's like an auditorium where they lock you in rollercoaster type chairs. The whole premise is an alien transporter dealy thing gone wrong and this xenomorph type alien warps into the room. The lights go off and there are puppets that are lit up in silhouette. There are air tubes on the back of the seats and mist jets on the seats in front of you to simulate breath from the monster. I'll tell you this, my 13 year old self near shat in fear. I remember I was afraid to close the shower curtain when I showered.
- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Alien Encounter was shut down many years ago already.
- ScubaSt3ve, on 12/02/2008, -3/+4Dear God I hope they make every single movie in 3D. I just saw Bolt 3D, and much to my surprise it was great. The visuals they are able to create now are just jaw dropping
- centran, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2@av4rice
I said borrow your friends... You have two sets. One is straight(or you can wear them) and the other you rotate 90 degrees. You will find out that you can't see through when you line up two sets of glasses like that.
The left and right eye are angled opposite of each other. So when the polarized image is projected only one eye can see each frame.
