- bodhibay, on 01/02/2009, -0/+24Actually, it's 2009. You should get out more.
- BeShirtHappy, on 01/01/2009, -6/+21I think it is a great loss. Heath Ledger was a young and promising actor whose life was cut short. Ledger could have very well become the next Nicholson, Pacino or De Niro... now we'll never know.
- BradOFarrell, on 01/02/2009, -2/+11Re: Douches: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heath_Ledger#Autopsy_ ...
It was an accidental overdose of prescription depression and cold medication, not a suicide. - InfinitySnatch, on 01/02/2009, -5/+14He'll be thrilled to hear it.
- sirbeta, on 01/02/2009, -5/+14As cynical as this is, this is exactly how I've looked at the whole Heath Ledger thing. He killed himself, and everyone is calling him an angel, mourns him like the son they never had, and I've even heard some people call him a hero.
Don't get me wrong, I thought he was an excellent actor and his part as the Joker was nothing short of amazing, but the response this has generated and continues to generate does nothing but confuse me more. It's not like he was murdered in some unavoidable circumstance like John Lennon. He killed himself. - IEatEmoKids, on 01/02/2009, -2/+10These comments suck.
- enochthewalker, on 01/02/2009, -4/+10The thing is, this IS 2008, and The Dark Knight WAS the biggest movie of the year. Add in all the hype building up to the movie outside of the number of people who saw it, especially the hype and deliverance of a masterful Joker performance and it is a solid argument.
- doctordbx, on 01/02/2009, -4/+9Heath Ledger is dead?!?!?!??!
No ***** way! - dierobots, on 01/02/2009, -1/+6Excuse me...but just what the hell are you talking about?
- Exodin, on 01/02/2009, -8/+13You miss the point bmather. People weren't looking to the past movies and saying "Oh what a great loss" they were thinking about the future. He was one of those young actors that really took it seriously. You can't look at the Joker or brokeback mountain and tell me the guy didn't have an amazing career ahead of him.
and no, it wouldn't be THAT tragic for any of the actors you listed. They're old, dying is what old people do. - scallon, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5You're joking right? Have you ever seen some of the mountains of prescription pills that doctors tell some people to take? In today's day and age being on a half dozen different medications is not that rare. Also when you actually think about, it as opposed to talking out of your ass, you would realize that if those medications were not all prescribed by the same doctor (due to the patient traveling or whatever) then they may not be aware of the other medications the patient is taking and thus may prescribe you something that does not mix well with one of your other medications. Then just like that you die.
- sockpuppets, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Maybe this is a leap digg.
- Chooxo, on 01/02/2009, -2/+7Ah. Well, whatever it was, congrats on being the biggest news story, Heath. You earned it. Accidentally.
- ZubZerp, on 01/02/2009, -7/+12Are you serious? I'm not saying that his death wasn't tragic or anything, but many people didn't even know the guy's name before the media started reporting his death. His death was a big deal to get better ratings, taking advantage of the hype surrounding "The Dark Knight". It was not because cause the media really cared for him.
- murkem, on 01/02/2009, -1/+6Related story: Heath Ledger Is Dead. So leave him the ***** alone.
- oda1, on 01/02/2009, -3/+8LLLEAAVVEE LEDGER AL-OOONNEE.
- DevSingh1359, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4For some reason I've found that it's the people who've just watched it on DVD that are saying the movie sucks...I think they've been listening to too much praise from everyone who saw it in theaters and are popping the disc in with expectations that are way too high.
- Zilk, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4http://www.tmz.com/2008/01/22/heath-ledger-is-dead ...
23,000 diggs.
Stop trying to be funny and sarcastic so that people will digg you. You all dugg for him when he died. Show some ***** respect. - sebastianbr, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4You should check him out in 'Candy'. Great aussie movie about drug addiction.
- BradOFarrell, on 01/02/2009, -2/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heath_Ledger#Autopsy_ ...
It was an accidental overdose, not a suicide - Absyrd2, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5James Dean was a legend before his death.
- 15thPD, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci are two of the greatest, most accomplished actors in film history. Are you really going to denigrate them for getting old? Of course they passed their prime already.
- BinaryDelt, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5Ledger didn't go out partying and end up dead in a pile of pills, hookers, and his own vomit. He overdosed on prescription drugs, something that could very easily happen to any of us. Also, read your comments before you post them so you don't sound like an incoherent, misinformed, babbling moron.
- bodhibay, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4Yes, publicity = successful movie.
Thank you, fretslide. - IEatEmoKids, on 01/02/2009, -1/+42008's biggest MOVIE story
Learn to read. - enochthewalker, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4This movie would have been a blockbuster regardless of him kicking the bucket.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3Sad that he had to go that way, after delivering a performance at the top of his game that would have lead to instant ultra- stardom.
- DigtalMe, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3You should change your user name to TrollingOnDigg.
- fugazied, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3IMHO best Batman villain we have seen. Nicholson's Joker 2nd best. I guess the competition isn't that hard in the Batman films though.
- petebot, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4“You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain?”
- yosserhughes, on 01/02/2009, -1/+3Apparently the best way to achieve “Greatness’ is to get yourself offed in an untimely manner.
JFK and Lincoln became great presidents overnight, MLK and Malcolm the Tenth shot to stardom after catching their bullets, (pardon the pun). James Dean and Marilyn Monroe; the greatest actors of their generation? (Have you seen any of their stuff?)
Like the man said; “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em.”
Others achieve it by early extinction. - yugosakimi, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2Dugg in resigned acknowledgement that not to digg a Heath Ledger story is to be an insensitive twit. Drat.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Who cares.
- enochthewalker, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2Hard to argue that point. I will thumb you up.
- DigtalMe, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2Not to mention Brokeback Mountain. He was absolutely fantastic in that movie. It's probably my second favorite of his performances, Joker being the first of course.
- e2superman, on 01/02/2009, -10/+12Smallest News Story on Digg for 2008: Someone submits a story on Ledger (aka the Joker) and it makes the front page.
- DigtalMe, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2Oh.
- ripple123, on 01/02/2009, -1/+2yeah dead and everything
- bodhibay, on 01/02/2009, -1/+2He's an Australian gay drug addict making the news is a new low for Digg. It is not like he was going to find a cure for heart disease or cancer. But just like Canada, the only thing the second world country of Australia turns is entertainers who then have to come to the US to be rcognized and compensated.
- Cyberdactyl, on 01/02/2009, -1/+2I agree. I have a hard to time feeling sorry for celebs who have some internal ongoing pouting episode because life is just so cruel and/or wrong.
- moonshyne, on 01/02/2009, -0/+1should not be #1
- DigtalMe, on 01/02/2009, -0/+1Who the ***** is Keith Ledger?
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1My guess is that he was a addicted to pain killers and thus died because of an overdose. But I think the media didn't want to look "too much" into it (or WB pull some strings to have that effect, who wants to be publicized with a pills junkie in one of its major projects? The Ledger death could've had the opposite effect). I'm not saying this in a bad way, is just a possibility.
- BradOFarrell, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1Using the medicine your doctor gave you is not "asking" to die. His cold and depression symptoms that night were obviously extremely severe and he took more than he was supposed to take in a desperate attempt to alleviate the pain. Tens of thousands of people die a year that way and just because one of them was a celebrity doesn't mean it's suddenly a celebrity suicide overdose scandal.
- Swarmie, on 01/02/2009, -2/+3He was asking for it, it was not like he was inhaling the farts of an unicorn...
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+1"Now let me get this straight. You want me to let my client of 15 years, one of my best friends, die in the jungle alone, for some money and a G5?"
I bet it was insurance fraud! - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+1yeah maybe, with 500 million less in ticket sales.
- ahtu, on 01/02/2009, -2/+3yeah, 6 different drugs is "hell of a time"
- oda1, on 01/02/2009, -3/+4I give Heath Ledger respect in having one of the best career make-overs in recent times. Pretty much all his stuff before 2001 was complete crap. His image was of the blonde-haired, hunky boy next-door. Then he took that image, held it side-ways and raped it. Monster's Ball, Brothers Grimm, I'm not there, Dark knight ... Watching Heath's career taught me not to judge someone right away, people have more depth than whats at the surface. It's amazing he accomplished what he did at only 28 years old, and it's a shame we lost one of the best actors of our generation. RIP.
