18.) Lust, Caution - robdiggity, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Who is even going to be able to SEE Lust, Caution? With an NC17 the screen count just got cut to zilch, a fact which blows goats IMO. With no screens BP award is next to impossible.
- kida101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Saw No Country For Old Men at Cannes this year and it is hands down the best film of the year. Javier Bardem gives an instant classic performance and the style, script, cinematography, acting and direction are all top notch.
- arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It's a "look ahead of things to come".. meaning he's keeping his eye open for potentially good upcoming films. RTFA.
- xmkatx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Well, Brokeback Mountain didn't deserve it, but Crash REALLY didn't deserve it.
Worst movie of the year. I saw it TWICE just to make sure. - xmkatx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. DUGG!
- neoblaque, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Nope, celebrities are always in season.
- yohnstoppable, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3A good Western hasn't been made since Tombstone in 1993. I'm going to have to dig that up, as well as Unforgiven. It's been too long since I've watched those
- fohf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If lack of original ideas was the reason then there wouldn't be any new movies in any genre.
and it certainly wouldn't explain why there are so many boring dramas made. - cayqel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3blowing goats is what got the movie an NC-17
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Oscar voters don't watch movies in art houses. Most of them don't even watch movies, from what I can tell.
- truebullfan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"3:10 to Yuma" looks really good from the trailer. Russell Crowe looks badass in it. Plus its made by the same guy who did "Walk the Line" which was an excellent film
- imbetterthanu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Our local theater is $6 for first run movies AFTER 6pm. Matinee prices are $4.50. I was shocked when we moved here and found out those prices.
- imbetterthanu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Don't some of the art house theaters show NC-17? They show unrated movies so I'd assume it'd be the same with NC-17.
- DonKarnage25, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No Country For Old Men - I loved the book. Had no idea they were making a movie out of it. It'll be interesting to see if they make it as violent as the book seemed to be - considering Tommy Lee Jones is going to star in it.
- Jambi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Brokeback Mountain was a good, if uneven film. Crash was the worst piece of maudlin ***** I've seen in many years. The plot was so horrendously contrived that you'd think it had been written by a five year-old. On top of that, no one outside of Don Cheadle gave a passable performance. How the hell it was even nominated, I'll never know.
- arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nothing wrong with chick flicks.. a movie is a movie. I'll watch just about anything (minus musicals).
- indecentbass, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I really can't take this guy seriously. He had King Kong in his top 5!?!?!
- shaftbond, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If Lust Caution wins Best Picture it better be because it is that good and because the Academy feels guilty after Ang Lee pouted that he didn't win for Brokeback Mountain.
It didn't win because it didn't deserve it Ang!*
*This sentence is specifically for Ang, since I know he's a huge digger. - skaughtm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1regardless of the quality of pirates 3 or transformers, they were only mentioned in the area of special effects.
- esbern1, on 10/10/2007, -9/+10no it was *****. you're a ***** idiot.
- Nudar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Best Supporting Actor for Vince Vaughn? I think the universe would explode if that happened. He couldn't act his way out of a kindergarten school play.
- digmc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm a big fan of Sleuth. The original with Olivier and Cain is a great film, hopefully the remake will be just as good.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's a bit sharp, don't you think?
- djAnakin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've never liked his movies. My brother and best friend love them.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I approve this message. King Kong was a joke. A poor, unfunny one at that.
- gnslngr1919, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://www.nocountryforoldmen.com/redband/trailer_large.html
It looks like it will be violent. I have not read the book but the movie is in my top 5 most anticipated for the rest of the year. - fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3"Two straight years Naomi Watts has starred in a film that made my top 5 lists ('King Kong' and ..." wait, what the *****?! King Kong??? The author has no credibility.
- skaughtm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1man, it wasnt that bad, people hate on that film as much as something as deserving as epic movie.
- ps3udov3ctor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1remove any one in that list and add "King of Kong".
- feshmania, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5look...Owen Wilson all bandaged up! I guess cutting his wrists wasn't enough, eh?
(too soon?) - archlich, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I really can't wait to see 3:10 to Yuma. It's been too long since a good western was produced.
- electricmba, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Most of these films are playing next week and the week after at the Toronto International Film Festival - tickets still available to some of the daytime screenings if you're in the area.

- jakeamoore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Is it weird that I have an erection from reading both Noah Brumbach and the Coen brothers releasing films this fall?
- electricmba, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm seeing it a week from Today at the Toronto Film Festival, then it is going to be limited release on September 28th (meaning cities like NY, LA, etc.). You'll likely have to wait until the early new year before it goes wide.
- dgulbran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Okay, I've seen the trailer for Beowulf, too, and as a result, I must conclude this reviewer is blind.
- LordStandley, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4I thought A History of Violence was pile of ***** too. The director had some real odd camera choices and some very odd and uncomfortable scenes that felt very made for TV as stated above. I'm surprised this still gets so much critical attention, I was very disappointed.
- fasda, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3buried as inaccurate... no Iron Man
- pgouy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Same here.. Not that King Kong was BAD, but top 5 material? Come on...
- j4nj1m3n3z, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I cant wait to see American Gangster
- allisonaxe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i don't think i could afford to see 18 movies in a theater. :-(
- culbeda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1/Presses play on Stewie Griffin's canned laughter machine
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No... it was bad.
Even the film's supposed saving grace, the special effects, were often laughable. - fredpwatson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Beowulf! Ha! I don't see why he would think that will even be in Oscar contention. After all the graphics don't really look that much better than Shrek. And it's sure not going to compete to win the Visual Effect Oscar against movies like Pirates 3 and Transformers.
