- sbader, on 10/10/2007, -1/+67"Unlike all those other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent."
- MarkDykeman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+55But Shrek... who cares if it's not really Scottish? No one ever said he was Scottish, he's an ogre!
- fordot2oh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+42I'd have to wholly disagree with this guy on a few points, Michael Caine and Sean Connery....he was ripping on them for bad acents in their own natural speaking voices? WTF?! Perhaps a regional scottish brogue doesn't sound like a perfect irishman but it sounds a hell of a lot better than Lucky the Leprechaun.
Oh...and he missed a major one, Gerald Butler in 300...the single most scottish-sounding greek king I've ever heard in my life. - diggleague, on 10/10/2007, -0/+35I think that Shannon Elizabeth's awful accent in American Pie was also up there with the worst ever. But then again, I am not sure how many people were actually listening to her
- razmig, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28she had lines?
- mickeyknoxxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18How in the world is NOBODY mentioning the catastrophic attempts of a brooklyn accent by Steven Seagal in practically every one of his films. He has thee most horrible accent I have ever heard. And the worst part...he's actually from New York. Pathetic. Worst actor of all time.
- freakgd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Dude what the ***** sean connery?
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14To be fair, not many people are proficient in ancient Lacedaemonian accents.
- frogman54, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15This guy is kind of a douche bag. Some of those actors were speaking in their natural voice. And he made fun of Shrek? Last I checked, there wasn't an official Ogre dialect. Bad list.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I think this article is pretty much bunk. The author not only doesn't seem to offer any kind of credentials to back up his claims that the actors are doing bad accents, but he's also attempting to be an expert on a multitude of accents. Based on what experience? This is one of those situations where you can't simply make a sweeping statement like, "That's not a *real* Scottish/Russian/Irish accent." There are many variations on any given accent. Would you believe that the American dialect is born out of such influences as Welsh and Irish? This is a classic attempt to get self-righteous about something the author obviously isn't qualified to complain about.
Incidentally, in my personal experience as an ESL teacher in Japan who has also lived in Europe, I've found that most people learning English as a foreign language want to imitate the American accent, as they view it as the most desirable. Doesn't sit well with all the British, Australian, or New Zealand teachers, though, especially when they're asked to mimic the American pronunciation. - directsun, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18They missed John Malkovich’s Russian accent in Rounders.
"He be-ate me. Str-ate oop." - shaka776, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Dugg down for referring negatively to Burt the chimney sweep.
You don't mess with a sweep's mojo...he'll stick that broom where the sun don't shine... - Skanadian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Shrek? Terrible list.
- vincrap, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15I'm burying this based on the fact that a few of these are so stupid, it's obvious the writer of the article knows 1. nothing about actors 2. nothing about film beyond 'OH I SAW DIS IN DA MOVIES' and 3. nothing about accents. Some of the accents he mentioned are actually spot on. He'd know that if he traveled his fat ass beyond his computer.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13How about a list of the 13 Worst Blog Design Decisions and not capitalizing the first letter of sentences or subheads just for the sack of not capitalizing them. This list was almost as bad as reading comments without paragraph breaks.
- frepnog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Who ever dugg this article needs to get shot. The page it is on has attempted to load three ***** trojans. Way to go, assmonkeys.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I thought the same thing...anytime anyone bashes someone for their "accent" in an animated film for a fictional, storybook character means they were just writing an opinion piece for the sake of writing an opinion piece.
- puddpunk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Are you serious? Mickey's accent was right on the button dude. Have you ever met a "pikey"? Trust me, it was perfect.
You don't agree? arl righ farg ya eyell fayght yar fur it - FyreGoddess, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Either:
1) English is now the universal language on planet Earth (likely)
or
2) The translators that can translate any language, alien or human, automatically translates for us, the viewing audience, and gives us the accent for our listening pleasure. - System21, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10At least we get to enjoy Hugh Laurie's accent on House
- Kronos6948, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11It was probably overlooked for the gratuitous schoolgirl panty scene late in the movie. I know I forgave her for a lot after that....
- LanceStallion, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Or Nic Cage in "Con Air"..."Put...the bunny...back...in the box". Horrible. Ruined the movie.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I'm George Bush, but people call me George Bush.
- netdawg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9this guy couldn't have done worse if he'd thrown darts at a phone book.
- blakebrentwood, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Don't forget that Forrest was half-retarded. I've never actually heard a retarded southern person talk, but I can only hope that they all sound like Forrest Gump.
- cozb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9worst movie blog ever. the opinions of the author don't even cut the mustard
- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8not through firefox
- rjam710, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8No, her tan looked pretty even to me.
- WarrenHarding, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7nick cage in con air is by far the worst accent ever. it's not even close.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"Where's the maid mah-rion?"
/izzard - byxba, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Just so you know, Judd Hirsch is Jewish and from the Bronx. His accent was pretty much his voice.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The author would probably diss Hugh Laurie's English accent. Lame.
- spiffyfitz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7[With American accent:] "This is English courage."
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Where the hell is Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta?
- directsun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7The more I think about it... the more gypped I feel. Seriously... the one I think should be in there no matter what.... isnt.
I feel so unsatisfied. Zhust Liek a yuung maane cumingg in four a qviky. - ThinkBox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6john malkovich wins... wow that is the worst Russian acent I have ever heard.
- archlich, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6All Greek Kings have Scottish accents, just like Roman Emperors have English accents. This is madness!
/I'm going to get so buried for this. - rzurad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6you've obviously never been to south africa
- rcomegys, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I can't believe they missed Sean Connery's gut-wrenchingly awful Japanese accent in Rising Sun. God, it was so awful that I still can't figure out what he's saying.
Reminds me of Groundskeeper Willy teaching French... "Bonjourrrrrrrrrrrrrr, ya cheese-eatin' surrender-monkeys!" - jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5what about Kevin Costner in 13 Days? Horrible portrayal of a Bostonian accent
- Kronos6948, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Shrek=Green Fat Bastard.
- bigdoof, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Don't forget to refill the DeLorean on your way back.
- FuriousGopher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I was expecting Harrison Ford's "Russian" accent in K-19: The Widowmaker
- davin510, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Chris Tucker trying to speak Chinese in the Rush Hour films... and English for that matter.
- CatalystGhost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ubuntu, bitches. I browse with impunity.
- mahoua, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I hope you are not saying Brad Pitt's accent in Snatch was inaccurate/inappropriate. If so, you are an idiot. Please don't watch and comment on movies from now on.
- xstarsprinklesx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah, but Nic Cage's regular speaking voice is already painful to listen to, so he had an unfair disadvantage.
- awhiteflame, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Not all of us use Windows. How would we therefore know?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6WARNING! This website downloads ***** trojans onto your computer. I just removed a ton of crap. ***** this website. I'm reporting it.
- daeggman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I thought she was at least passable in V - apparently she had a lot of coaching to get it where it was. You wanna go for bad British accents from American actresses, where the hell is Winona Ryder on that list?
