- prompel, on 11/03/2009, -4/+53I can't be bothered with this slideshow *****.
- BookaShade, on 11/03/2009, -2/+36#13
terrible acting is replaced with copious amounts of amazing CGI - carpenterdon, on 11/03/2009, -0/+31"Fact" #2 is incorrect. The mayan calendar is simply an odometer, in 2012 it just adds another digit to the counter. It's just like your car, because your odometer is reading 999,999.99 and about to roll over to 000,000.00 doesn't mean the car is gonna explode, it just means it rolls to 1,000,000.00 but you can't see 7 digits so it reads 000,000.00 equaling 1 million miles...
- weasler7, on 11/03/2009, -1/+30So... they remade The Day After Tomorrow with more CGI?
- budboomer, on 11/03/2009, -0/+23Or, the guy reached 2012, got bored out of his ***** skull, put his pencil down, and went fishing.
- thinboyslim, on 11/03/2009, -2/+23Fact 1: Using slideshows or multiple pages to show limited information is the worst kind of web design.
- KSUdesigner, on 11/03/2009, -1/+20Try reading the article, they avoided destroying New York in this movie specifically because it's been done too many times.
- lolwatermelon, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2013: It'll be terribad and still make hundreds of millions of dollars.
- TheFuzzyOne, on 11/03/2009, -0/+15That's right. It *****.
- jsmithers, on 11/03/2009, -2/+17Watch this right to the end (even better in full screen): http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/10/2012-trailer-withou ...
and if you don't have time, move the slider about two thirds of the way across and watch the last 30 seconds or so.
Trust me, you'll like it :) - Lavarock, on 11/03/2009, -1/+16Some director once tried blowing up Atlanta, Georgia but nobody knew what the ***** they were watching.
- AdmiralAcbar, on 11/03/2009, -0/+14Dude, don't diss Dreamcast games.
- lolerskate, on 11/03/2009, -2/+15You only need 1 fact "It *****."
- mattyboy555, on 11/03/2009, -5/+18That movie looks worse than Transformers 2
- iBleeedOrange, on 11/03/2009, -0/+13I think its because NY is the largest city in the US. It represents a lot for the country.
- lolwatermelon, on 11/03/2009, -1/+131/13th of the entire country lives in NYC and the surrounding area.
- localzuk, on 11/03/2009, -1/+13My guess is because people in Paris, London, Tokyo, Shanghai, Moscow etc... would all recognise the city, due to its landmarks, most wouldn't know what LA looks like - it is too generic.
Its like how Paris gets attacked in movies - everyone knows what the Eiffel Tower looks like, but I bet no-one knows what Calais or Lille look like. - shwaa, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10"That's the problem with our world. If you would destroy Mecca, I would have a fatwa on my head. So we stayed away from it."
The outrage over the Dutch cartoons were one thing, but this is just ridiculous. - allisonV12, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10Thought it looked awesome until....Danny Glover playing the part of the president,Morgan Freeman and Danny Glover have been regurgitated a dozen times as president...boring...heck even Cris Rock was president.
Heres a comment from Rotten Tomatoes

But killing Christians is OK because we won't fly planes into buildings killing thousands of civilians.
So cowardly Roland...screw the radical muslims...I say we show Mecca being overrun by pigs.
v - T8erT0T, on 11/03/2009, -1/+10Really RT? 7 Pages?
I just want to know what page John Cusack stopped reading the script, stood up, and affirmatively said, "Sign me up for this masterpiece!" - proghead, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9NYC is typically symbolic for America as a whole. Also, theres quite a lot of fodder for destruction there, and a lot of people packed closely together.
- boo3710, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9John Cusack's not that bad of an actor.
- lolwatermelon, on 11/03/2009, -2/+10Did you see the same trailer I did? The CGI was godawful. The collapsing ground was just painted black. I've seen better graphics in bargain bin Dreamcast games.
- joejitsu, on 11/03/2009, -0/+8I would watch this movie just to see Mecca get destroyed. No Mecca no movie for me. PC trash.
- ZincSaucier, on 11/03/2009, -1/+8what does it cost to have your ad not labeled as sponsored
- TheMeatball, on 11/03/2009, -1/+8"I was very reluctant... ...then once in a while you want to do it again because it's very easy for you to get a lot of money to make these movies." - Roland Emmerich, FTA
Depressing. - oda1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6"But when you find something you're really good at and very successful with, then once in a while you want to do it again..."
Yeah... I've got some bad news for you, Emmerich. - uberchaoslord, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6Yes, and replaced "scary Global Warming cause" with "scary Interstellar Event cause"
- jagenigma, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6#13. Its just another year...
Y2K was the same *****...
By the way, just how much of this movie was done in front of a green screen? - slapded, on 11/03/2009, -1/+6or went fapping
- uberchaoslord, on 11/03/2009, -1/+6His mistake about nationality aside, the assertion was correct - the fact that blowing up Mecca would have Muslims up in arms, yet we're happy to show the holiest christian site being destroyed and we all say to ourselves "well its just a disaster movie" is telling. The fact that its not being singled out doesnt make any sense, their stupid backward religious beliefs tell them they must destroy us.
If it wasn't for the chinese, I"d be worried about them. That being said, if they ever get real uppity with China, they're in for some ass-whuppin. (note to self: frame Muslim terrorists for attacks on China) - Aliwalla, on 11/03/2009, -7/+12Hey can i ask question? Why do American's always destroy New York in your disaster movies? is it some sort of weird subconcious hatred against the city?
- Kruse, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5When I read the description I thought it was, "We take a journey through Roland Emmerich's epic disaster."
- oda1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5The fact that he makes a lot of money has nothing to do with whether or not he is good at what he does. It's just circumstance that led him to be where he is.
You failed at proving your point.
Try again. - omgwtflawl, on 11/03/2009, -1/+6>Emmerich originally planned to dish out the same destructive pulverising to the Muslim holy site that he unleashes on the rest of the world in 2012. But he bottled it.
That's too bad.
>The Vatican on the other hand?
And nothing of value was lost. - BoneheadFarker, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4I didn't know Michael Bay was involved in this...
- TimtheTaxMan, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5Welcome to modern filmmaking. Plot and acting have taken a backseat to CGI.
CGI is the worst thing to ever happen to movies. - allisonV12, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4 The water meets the pier front skyscrapers makes a dramatic film, nice and tidy with no urban sprawl
- iBleeedOrange, on 11/03/2009, -4/+8I didn't like it, I don't trust you
- shwaa, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4You must be the life of the party.. Especially if someone has a slip of the tongue!
But then, if you acted like that in real life you'd get your ass kicked constantly.
Take a chill pill chrillen - Jnewman83, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4"It's fascinating that a culture which disappeared 1500 years ago would have this notion that the world would end on this exact date," observes Emmerich.
-Some people just don't do their research. The Mayans were going strong until the arrival of the Spanish in the Yucatan in the 1560's and Held out in their last strong holds until the end of the 17th century. But as a civilization they're still around today, I mean hell, Guatemala tried to ethnically cleanse them in the 1980's. - WiretapStudios, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4This movie makes me look forward to the adaptation of 'The Road.' In The Road, the story is character based, and the apocalypse is in the the background. In Roland Emmerich's movies, the cgi seems to be the main star, and the characters are just dotted around the cgi like scenery. I like some of his movies, but I usually don't connect with any of the characters as being realistic.
- consoneo, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Welcome to the world of today. It's the same for most video games as well... "Give me good graphics and no story and I'll buy it. I may not be happy, but I'll buy it!"
Kinda sucks that the good games fall through the cracks sometimes due to the graphics inability to be on par with the newest of the new because money and time was spent on a good story. - TimtheTaxMan, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4True, but good acting can't cover a bad script.
- sd2001, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4Danny Glover as president? Morgan Freeman was the best portrayal of an african-american president ever.
http://www.rushprnews.com/press/wp-content/2009/01 ...
Also, anyone else notice how two of the major films that portray african-americans as president are disaster movies where the world as we know it ends? (Deep Impact and now 2012).
Hmm... - UselessTrivia, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3It has a very recognizable skyline and look. It's always immediately obvious what city is being blown up. The same cannot be said of every major city. Places like New York, LA, Miami, Seattle, are pretty easy to spot. A place like Kansas City, Minneapolis, even Chicago...not so much.
- Nicoon, on 11/03/2009, -1/+41 Fact About 2012: "It's just another year".
- Elranzer, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3So this is basically the warm weather version of The Day After Tomorrow?
- 5thdigg, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4that movie looks like complete *****, and obviously rotten tomatoes has been paid off to sell the movie.
