- CybrStuff, on 09/16/2008, -0/+32Summary:
Jack Nicholson, Chevy Chase, Robin Williams, Bill Murray, and Steve Martin are considered for most roles. - Bassist182, on 09/16/2008, -0/+19Steve Martin as Indiana Jones? I feel like that would just turn Indy in to a really bad comedy....
- SeventhSon, on 09/17/2008, -0/+17The thought of Robin Williams playing Han Solo makes me want to kick George Lucas's ass. It makes me want to build a machine to kick his ass. It makes me want to build an empire to house the machine to kick his ass.
- jjgames, on 09/17/2008, -1/+16I think Tom Selick could have played a good Indiana Jones. Rugged and handsome just like Harrison Ford.
- SVOboy, on 09/17/2008, -0/+15If the glove don't fit, hire the governator.
- numeka, on 09/17/2008, -0/+13Nobody can do justice to Depp's Jack Sparrow.
- inactive, on 09/16/2008, -0/+11OJ Simpson as the Terminator! Incredible.
- 0U8I2, on 09/17/2008, -0/+10Chevy Chase as Indiana Jones? It would have been a comedy adventure then, because I don't think he can play it straight action.
- inactive, on 09/17/2008, -1/+10No Will Smith as Neo?
- loobis, on 09/17/2008, -0/+8Wasn't Ewan McGregor also considered for Neo? I think that would have been cool. I personally think The Matrix was good IN SPITE of Keanu, and he had nothing to do with it.
- Ricochetbiscuit, on 09/17/2008, -1/+8Nice, Robin Williams would have been perfect for Pirates.
- IvanB, on 09/17/2008, -0/+7Or maybe Arnold as a writer in another world? :o
- Jennadickes, on 09/17/2008, -3/+9Bill Murray would have been very different but ***** great as Jack Sparrow. He would be great as anything... swoon
- charlietuna, on 09/17/2008, -0/+6Depp's Jack Sparrow was spot on, but another more sinister take on it would have been good too.
- jaybol, on 09/17/2008, -0/+6typo - it is guvuhnayta
- bixby1, on 09/17/2008, -0/+6If it does, hire OJ. wait.
- dslartoo, on 09/17/2008, -0/+6Selleck's screen test was actually pretty damn impressive, I thought. It's on some versions of the Indy boxsets and is worth a look if you're curious.
- malfourmed, on 09/17/2008, -1/+7The one that still sends me to my very private safe place is Nicholas Cage as Superman.
- Speed, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5So Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?
- paulvq, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5Dave Chappelle turned down the role of Bubba in Forrest Gump.
- Harbinger67, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4Christopher Walken as Han Solo?
That's one I really wish had happened :p - Jp1138, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4Well, Lance Henriksen was The Terminator before they shifted from a stealth robot to a more aggressive one.
- SirFoxx, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4Only the latter part of Steve Martins career can you say that. His stuff up to the mid 90's was mostly excellent.
- paulvq, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4It's on his IMDb bio and a number of other sites as well.
- dezweber, on 09/17/2008, -0/+3Daniel Day Lewis as Vincent Vega? I can picture it now..."Did you just order a five dollar milkshake? I drink your milkshake! I drink it up! "
- inactive, on 09/17/2008, -0/+3joan crawford was seriously considered for the role of scarlett o'hara in 'gone with the wind'
- howdareyou, on 09/17/2008, -0/+3Michael J. Fox replaced Eric Stoltz several weeks into the shooting of BTTF.
- Balanced, on 09/17/2008, -0/+3He did do 'Hook' which was kinda-sorta in the same vein.
- ericthegreat, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2I too was amazed that wasn't on there. If that went through it would have killed the possibility of any studio wanting to touch another superhero flick. Think about it, Nick Cage could have cost us The Dark Knight.
- inactive, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2I bet Keith RIchards could do it.
- BoroBob, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2I agree. When I read that he had been considered for the role, it really made me wish he'd got it.
- dezweber, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2Just be thankful that they did.
- decepticrat, on 09/17/2008, -4/+6I think Wil Smith would have been excellent as Neo.
- twoyups, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2Article is down, but that can't be true...can't be...
Can it? - BoroBob, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2I like Robin Williams, but I just can't imagine him as Jack Sparrow
- SirFoxx, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2They actually did a parody of Indiana Jones on one of the last seasons of Magnum P.I.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2I have to agree here. The Sparrow that we all know and love now is the most iconic character of the new millennium. Depp was perfect and I highly doubt anyone could have done it better.
- inactive, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2And Tom Selick was really huge back then. He's actually a really good actor if you see some of his new stuff.
- Asvetic, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2http://geeksofdoom.com/2008/09/16/12-craziest-movi ...
Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly?! Look at how big Doc Brown's hands are! - mrsachmo, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1We know that if OJ was the Terminator, Sarah Conner would have been screwed if she tried to stop him with luggage rather than an industrial press.
- mrsachmo, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Or Jada as a heavy metal singer? Oh wait....
- Fergy, on 09/18/2008, -0/+1Yo man, I know freakin kung-fu!
- Knowltey, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1How can you make this list without even noting that Will Smith turned down the role as Neo in The Matrix to work on Wild Wild West instead, because he thought that The Matrix wasn't going to be as successful, and Nicolas Cage turned down the role because of "family obligations"?
- numeka, on 09/17/2008, -1/+2That's exactly what I was thinking!
- scojerroc, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1walken's solo would kick ass
- TheUngod, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Patrick Stewart as Hannibal? Come on, that would have rocked.
- Asvetic, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but Kurt Russell would have been an awesome pick. He might have played Hans Solo darker and more bad ass!
Really, could you imagine smirky Harrison Ford in The Thing!? - Supernova36, on 09/17/2008, -1/+2To all those digging me down: ***** SCIENTOLOGY!
Remember..? - andrewlotta, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1I don't have any other words except WTF?? His hands are HUGE.
- shipwreck58, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Wow. A pretty great list. Some comments
12. Oz - Spot on, its not the girl in the shoes that mattered with that one, it was creepy flying monkies!
11. Pirates. Glad they didnt go with their first choices
10. MIB - I like Tarentino, but he would have murdered Cunninghams work. Glad they went with who they did.
9. Terminator - Was spot on casting
8. The Shining - Nicholson, another overated one trick actor. Jon Voight would have been a better call indeed. They should have listened to King.
7. Pulp Fiction - vega could have been played just as well by about a dozen other actors but Daniel Day Lewis would not have worked for me.
6. Toy Story - The casting was spot on, the alternates would have been terrible. Bill Murry and Chevy Chase were funny, in the Seventies.
5. The Godfather. All of those alternates would have been better in the role (except maybe Borgnine). Brando was such an overrated hack!
4. Silence of the Lambs - Spot on, any of the alternates would have been a disaster.
3. Star Wars - You know what, i love Harrison Ford, but I get a little bit excited at the concept of Kurt Russel as Han Solo.
2. BttF - Any clown could have played Marty McFly. Doc Brown, well nobody else could have played him.
1. Indiana Jones. Yes Harrison is embedded in our brains as Indy, But the Tom Sellek thing has been around for a while. Yet even if I put myself in that place, having seen Tom's acting in movies other than westersn (Runaway, High Road to China), he would have ruined it. -
