- g0tistt0t, on 09/30/2008, -1/+50Dugg for Cowboy Bebop. One of the few animes worth the time it takes to watch them... very much worth it
- Sornos, on 09/30/2008, -3/+39Dugg for Sunshine (and of course Wrath of Khan). Sunshine was fantastically directed. You really miss out if you dismiss it.

See You Space Cowboy... - v00doo, on 09/30/2008, -0/+29Needs Roy Batty's death from Blade Runner: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...."

- ninjarabbits, on 09/30/2008, -1/+25Where's Porkins???
Porkins: "I've got a problem here."
Biggs: "Eject."
Porkins: "I can hold it."
Biggs: "Pull up!"
Porkins: "NO, I'm all ri-- Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" - DiscoUnderpants, on 09/30/2008, -0/+17Hal from 2001
Roy in blade runner - I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die. - santiago1, on 09/30/2008, -0/+13 How could they ***** kill WASH??!!! *****.....
No, I'm not still bitter about that....really!
...bastards.... - cyberghost232, on 09/30/2008, -1/+12*****. Optimus Prime dying in Transformers The Movie really ***** my up when I was a kid. When Primes head just flopped over and turned grey after the ass beating he took from Megatron. I was like damn that ***** really dead. I even think I cried at some point.
- nicheplayer, on 09/30/2008, -2/+13Duh? HAL from 2001? Please, people.
- Lucas123, on 09/30/2008, -0/+10Roddy Piper in "They Live"
"I've come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And, I'm all out of bubble gum"
Bonus. Best sci-fi fight scene ever:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqKFadyJxwg - Jon211, on 09/30/2008, -0/+10I thought The Core was far more realistic, I mean they had a mineral called unobtainium.
- AmyVernon, on 09/30/2008, -1/+11As totally cheesy as it was, Spock's death truly was deserving of its place on the list...
- sfury, on 09/30/2008, -2/+11"Most people seem to assume Spike dies of his wounds..."
I always assumed he passed out from all that blood loss. Call me a bloody optimist, but it's not suggested by anything that he actually died. Awesome end to the series either way though. - ToTiredToCare, on 09/30/2008, -0/+9Searle's death was cool, but NOTHING compares Kaneda's death when Icarus readjusted the shield. That was ***** incredible.
- Hetman, on 09/30/2008, -3/+12Adious space cowboy. Cowboy bepob is one of the greatest series of all times. From episode one to the final episode it is just great. And solaris was a cool movie also. It is definatly worth watching. I always thought that Boba Fetts death seen was cool, even though he goes out in lame jet pack malfunction. But then again some people say he survives I was always confused about that.
- duggtodeath, on 09/30/2008, -0/+9You always were an *****.
- Lucas123, on 09/30/2008, -0/+8I've got to give you a big fat Digg for Roy. Rutger Hauer made that friggin' line up himself, BTW. Ridley Scott wasn't sure how to end that final scene. I still think it is the best piece of dialogue in a science fiction film - ever.
- OneLess, on 09/30/2008, -1/+9The scene from Mission to Mars was awful, just like the rest of the movie. They seem to have forgotten that the astronauts were in a vacuum- she could have fired her thrusters for a short period of time, coasted over to Woody, then used a longer thrust change direction and then coast back.
- dslartoo, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Good list but it's missing Roy Batty's death scene from Blade Runner, which a number of people have already mentioned and which is still tops in my book.
I might also add Wash's death in "Serenity", because it caught me so completely off guard. I actually sat bolt upright and screamed "NO!" - Kohaxx, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7I have to admit it, the first time I saw that as a teenager...I cried a little.
- WraTH017, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7If there was any death that was a must on that list to give it credibility, it was Roy's.
And what about...
HAL from 2001?
Dave's acid trip death and rebirth from 2001?
Kris from Solaris (russian one, though the Clooney flick was alright)
or even Greedo from Star Wars Episode IV - protogenxl, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Must end life in classic Lorne Greene pose from Battlestar Galactica. Best death ever!
- simonpiman, on 09/30/2008, -1/+8Dugg for the excellent Anathem and including books in the list generally.
- BigW, on 09/30/2008, -1/+8Sunshine was really good until they ran into the captain of the other ship, from then on it was pretty bad.
- badqat, on 09/30/2008, -1/+8Sorry...but if you've seen the episode, you know ought to know he's dead...watch the credits till the end to see Spike's star extinguish.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVSmiasnAuk - inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6thank god for torrents otherwise i would have not even heard of it. Sunshine truly a good movie.
- Rudegar, on 09/30/2008, -1/+7yeah one of the best semi realistic scifi's in awhile
- Kronos6948, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6The ship....out of danger?
- badqat, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6It's a fitting end to the series. Unfortunately, it's not an end many people like.
It's also why the movie took place in a prior time. - spwpi10, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6The English voices are way better than the Japanese voices. The Japanese even have a subbed version of the American voices because they are just so much better.
- Kohaxx, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6It was a poetic end rarely done in anime. Generally the main character lives on so they can tack on more seasons or something.
Everything Spike truly ever cared about had died, it was only fitting to assume he died despite how tragic it was. If he had survived, he wouldn't have a purpose. - spikewilbury, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6No Scanners...
*Head Explodes* - gmiley, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6Another anime done by the same guy (Watanabe) also worth checking out is Samurai Champloo. It isn't sci-fi, but it is one of the few anime series with great character development and a really good story.
- GlitchEnzo, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5That's funny because one of the reasons why I hated Sunshine was because of how UNrealistic it was.
We can successfully land a robotic probe on another planet with pinpoint accuracy, but in order to fly a ship into the sun, it has to be manned. Not only that, but they need a crew of EIGHT people!
It was a decent suspense movie, but an atrocious sci-fi movie.
Even more inaccuracies:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_(2007_film)# ... - HiddenCanuck, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5T800 death good. Miles Dyson's death, better.
- MattBD, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5They left off one of the John Crichtons in Farscape (season 3, the one on Talyn), as well as Aeryn Sun (before she came back), Zhaan, and Crais. Does no-one love Farscape?
And Ambassador Kosh in B5. - gmiley, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5I always felt that there could be no other ending to that series. Even though Spike is one of my all time favorite characters, and I would have wanted him to live, I think it would have ruined it if he had.
- ncc74656m, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Truly amazing as Spock dies to watch Jim collapse with him, showing how deep their relationship really was.
It is truly conveying how much a part of Jim died with Spock. If you watch only one Star Trek movie ever, make it this one. I promise you that you will be moved. - Shogi, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4No Daniel Jackson from Stargate!?!? Granted he comes back to life, but it was definitely one of the most moving sci-fi moments for me. Amazing episode.
- christianboutin, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Dugg for Spike Spiegel and Cowboy Bebop. One of the most badass death ever.
- Shogi, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4If you liked Cowboy Bebop, you might like Black Lagoon.
- MillionsLivio, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4If you want some other great mature anime check out: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Berserk, Trigun, Gungrave, Gankutsuou, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Grave of the Fireflies, Full Metal Alchemist, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Wolf's Rain, Hellsing Ultimate, FLCL, Paranoia Agent, etc.
- Hetman, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4I really enjoyed farscape. I wish I could thing of the other sci-fi show where the ship was alive and it had a dead guy who was alive in it, a hot blond, and a crazy captain that wore red. If anyone knows please tell.
- kevro, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3REMEMBER
- ((PolyAst)), on 09/30/2008, -0/+3When I saw this I immediately thought "I bet they won't do Blake's 7"... and not only did they do it, they also used Doctor Who. Awesome.
- Rudegar, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Dugg for Sunshine
- wacked, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4Buried for a useless list that misses so many better deaths.
- DekarCorvus, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Dugg because i've never seen the Biggs Darklighter deleted scene from Star wars: A new hope.
However, Optimus Prime shoulda been on this list. how ***** badass is it when you kill off the leader/main character within the first 12 minutes of his debut movie? that messed up my childhood! -
