- dingedarmor, on 12/16/2008, -2/+25Hollywood just never quite gets it: remaking a classic just usually doesn't work--but they keep failing again and again.
- AmyVernon, on 12/16/2008, -2/+19The worst part of most of the crappy remakes were the happy endings, like in Invasion.
- xxMorrissey, on 12/16/2008, -1/+16Dugg for Turkish Star Wars.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -1/+14No The Day The Earth Stood Still?
- Ac1dburn, on 12/16/2008, -0/+11I had forgotten how terrible some of those movies were
- Gaalsien, on 12/16/2008, -1/+10I liked Godzilla...
Except the last twenty minutes mebbe. - ScotchInBox, on 12/16/2008, -0/+7Just wait - it's only going to get worse
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/movies/l ... - joemofo214, on 12/16/2008, -1/+8I almost forgot about rollerball
- CressCrowbits, on 12/16/2008, -1/+7I ... um ... I ... errrr ... quite liked those movies.
- Sabre24q7, on 12/16/2008, -10/+16"I Am Legend"
Um, this movie was descent, it does not belong in the hall of shame next to the island of doctor monreau. - hutectro, on 12/16/2008, -1/+7Also The Day the Earth Stood Still ----- BAD BAD BAD REMAKE
Watch the Original - SketchaMPM, on 12/16/2008, -0/+6I'll probably get dugg down for this, but I actually enjoyed 'War of the Worlds'. Having enjoyed both the original H.G. Wells story and the 1953 film, I feel that Spielberg understood why this invasion was so terrifying and created some truly disturbing imagery (the death ray is horrific). My only complaint is the gooey, happy Spielberg-style ending. (Why is the son still alive??)
- juhache, on 12/16/2008, -2/+8*decent
- Boing, on 12/16/2008, -2/+7It was much better than the Island of Doctor Moreau, but it still sucked.
- maja742, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5Turkish Star Wars is awesome, do yourself a favor and watch the last 10 minutes
- stevealford, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5You know what would have been even better? It would have been amazing if they'd actually FOLLOWED THE STORY OF THE ***** BOOK! How about that? It would be an amazingly great movie if they just make a movie version of the book about which they're supposed to be making a movie version. ***** Hollywood... *shakes head*
Edit: If you don't know how "I Am Legend" is supposed to end, I highly suggest you read the book or find a copy of it as an audiobook. It blows all three movie versions away. Movie studios just wouldn't dare to do it with a big-name, well-loved actor playing the lead. - stuma9000, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5Goddamit I liked Godzilla - i think everyone just got pissed caouse it was over-advertised. And putting Solaris on the bottom? The remake is at least as good as the orginal.
- Ratteler, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4Buried for walking out.
What are you complaining about. Keanu is perfect for Gort.
What? Really.... He was Klatu.
Ok. I see why you walked out. - EddyRX10, on 12/16/2008, -1/+5Seriously Turkish Star Wars is awesome.

and yes I know its a parody but its so rofltastic I had to share.
Best.Montage.EVAR!! - Remelox, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3Five minutes in and I was lost. Apparently those Turkish viewers are much smarter than I am.
- lovemorgul, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4I hope that it appears, there’s still a public demand for cheesy TV entertainment.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4Try as I might, I just couldn't appreciate Helena Bonham-Carter as an ape woman! Awful movie with a bizarre ending.
- steviedee, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3I worked on Turkish Star Wars way back. It was actually conceived to be a direct competitor to Star Wars, and grossed fairly well, considering it's budget. I'd say it was successful overall. Any questions, feel free to ask
- charlietuna, on 12/16/2008, -2/+5Despite the bad reviews, I just saw The Day The Earth Stood Still.
Don't bother. Whatever Reeves could not destroy with his strangely wooden acting (intentional?... no he's just bad) was ruined by the odd pacing and poor dialog. Jaden Smith's son was obviously dropped into the script as a favor to Dad. I wanted to walk out in the first 20 minutes. - marioara, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2I've only seen The nutty professor and I don't want to see the rest after reading these
- charlietuna, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2Gort was the only halfway good part of the movie, but even then the CGI was abysmal by current standards.
- Remelox, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2I think the movie was almost good. The Original Alternate ending drove home the point that he was the bad guy and left the franchise open for a real sequel. What the suits did to it forces a prequel down our throats that will probably only do well with the "it has Will Smith I must see it" crowd. And with the theatrical ending he comes out the hero, when he really wasn't.
I think what would have made the movie great was the original ending where Will Smith is the bad guy. Instead of the rampaging hoards at the end, they should have methodically hunted him through the house until he was trapped in the cellar. It would have kept the tone from earlier in the movie and kept the moral theme. - uncleosbert, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2no, the descent was that girls in a cave movie. it was actually pretty good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5I1q4KhKNU - londubh, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2I can't believe The Day The Earth Stood Still was not on that list. I figured that was the reason why it was published now. The original was pretty preachy even by today's standards.
- plutonium28, on 12/16/2008, -1/+3They should make a scifi movie based on the Moon-crashing-into-Earth scene in The Time Machine. That one scene almost makes up for the entire movie...
- soapergem, on 12/16/2008, -1/+3They forgot "Lost in Space"
- tmwsiy47, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2I did like Vanilla Sky, the whole idea of lucid dreaming. Quite facinating
- Ratteler, on 12/16/2008, -1/+3YOU CANNOT BE BURIED ENOUGH!!!!
ID4 I can forgive. 10,000 BC? Hmmm... ok. Stargate?... the series was better, but ... well, everyone has their own taste!!!! Day After Tomorrow? Meh...
But to LIKE Godzilla. Where's my Torch and Pitchfork!!!! - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2It's funny how most people think that the I am Legend's old ending is better than the new one just for the sake of it. The movie would've been better if it was made for that ending to fit PERFECTLY. While there are some hints that lead us to that ending in the movie, they're not enough for that ending to really fit. Maybe that could be done in the Director's cut if they have enough shoots of other hints.
- sexybobo, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2The Island Of Doctor Moreau was pretty funny with the rifftrack
- ScotchInBox, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2I agree completely - enough with happy endings - unless of course there's a massage scene...
- CkMaverick, on 12/16/2008, -1/+3Actually it is the general populous that doesn't get it... They keep making them because they have name recognition and you know that a whole slew of people will have the original in their hearts and go see the remake just for the sake of comparing them. Even though they are terrible movies they draw decent sized crowds because there are those that can't live without knowing how the remake stacks up to the original. You can't blame them for making the same old crap over and over even though it has no hope of stacking up to the original as long as droves of fans keep filling the theaters and giving them money regardless. The fault is ours.
- Andrwmorph, on 12/16/2008, -0/+170 minutes in so far

the cantina scene rules! is there a guy dressed like santa in the original? - MrJ777, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1At least Flubber got an honorable mention for ruining the 2 hours of my life babysitting my little brother I subjected both our eyes too.
I recovered.. but at his young age I blame all of his mental inadequacies on his poor eyes being subjected to Flubber.
Poor poor boy.
Oh yea, that remake of War of the Worlds made my childhoods poopchute bleed communist. - xenoscion, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Really? Rollerball is a bad movie...never saw that coming
- Velly, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1How did the War of the Worlds not make it to #1?
- o3man, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1I know Kung Fu.
- icexe, on 12/16/2008, -2/+3Dune.... the David Lynch version grew on me after a few years, then Sci-Fi channel came around and totally ruined it for me forever.
- inactive, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1That's why I avoided the new War of the Worlds when it came out and why I'm avoiding the new The Day the Earth Stood Still now.
Sci-fi remakes suck. - mikbunn, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1Mentioned in the header.
- ColinApocalypse, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1Oh my god...the future looks very, very bleak my friends.
Why can't they just let these classic movies rest in peace? - kaosethema, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1it's called dumbing-down. unfortunately, there are more stupid people who will go pay to see this then there intelligent people who know better and avoid it.
hollywood has lost its imagination. - ancalagon73, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1That Godzilla was good, it just shouldn't have been called Godzilla.
