10. Don’t Change Horses Midstream – Batman Forever
9. Don’t Do Too Much All At Once – Spider-Man 3
8. Don’t Rush Your Production – The Godfather Part III
7. Don’t Wait Too Long – Psycho III
6. Don’t Lose Your Icon – Halloween III: Season of the Witch
5. Deliver Something New – Jurassic Park III
4. Don’t Change Your Tone Too Much – American Wedding
3. Don’t Be A Gimmick – Jaws 3D
2. Resist Tossing Your Fish Out of Water – Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles
1. Adding Cute Things Is Fatal – Look Who’s Talking Now
Of course, the list should be taken with a grain of salt since #10, #9, #7 and arguably #4 apply to Batman Begins, which was excellent for most of those reasons (though yes, I realize it's not a threequel). - solid12345, on 07/08/2009, -1/+22It's true, Dirty Asian Girls 3 and Ass Explosion 3 pale in comparison to the first two.
- BenjB, on 07/07/2009, -0/+19It's all about the money.
- NathanielJ, on 07/08/2009, -2/+21Doesn't really count, since the second one already sucked.
- Richandler, on 07/07/2009, -2/+17They must make so much money making movies since they know everything.
- Tayloristehsux, on 07/08/2009, -0/+12already crashed wtf
- nick041, on 07/08/2009, -1/+12Spider-Man 3. Now that's the King of the *****. God damn do I hate that ***** movie. What was even the point of Venom? Sandman was good enough.
- mimigins, on 07/08/2009, -2/+11Shhh, I liked POTC3 too but it seems not a lot of people do
- sathias, on 07/08/2009, -0/+9This theory is ruined by Evil Dead 3
- solid12345, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8"Doesn't really count, since the second one already sucked."
Just skip to Monica Belluci's ass and the highway chase and throw the disc in the trash afterwards. - bdbr, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7No one mentioned Spiderman 3 because its in the article. And "Revenge of the Sith" was pretty good compared to the preceeding prequels (not that the bar had been set very high).
Completely agree with all the others though. - energyx, on 07/08/2009, -1/+81. Adding Cute Things Is Fatal - ROTJ
- MrFisty, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7Kind of covered in point 9, but still, probably deserves its own entry:
11. Multiple bad guys might sound like a great idea, but it's not. Stick to one Joker or one Darth Vader. Don't give us us every half baked bad guy in the known universe in an effort to pad out the script and make it "awesome". - sauron256, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6Pirates 2 and 3 felt like the film's creators had thought up a whole heap of cool fight sequences, and needed to make up a ***** story to tie all the action pieces together. Hence the films were horribly disjointed and didn't really make much sense.
- dmacmattack, on 07/08/2009, -9/+15What was wrong with Pirates 3?
- PixelMagic, on 07/08/2009, -2/+8Transformers 2. I know it's not a threequel, but it's so terrible, I felt it worth mentioning.
- thejackyl, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6If that's true then I actually kind of give him props for that.
- mooninite, on 07/08/2009, -1/+6Jaws 3?
Godfather 3?
Aliens 3? - freebird09, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5there's an alternative script for aliens 3 that would've been 10x better. Google it if you want to see for yourself (not like most of you haven't checked it out already).
- thejackyl, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5I thought Oceans 13 was good
- Balanced, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5It didn't make any of these mistakes, so it's not involved:
10. Don’t Change Horses Midstream – Still Bruce acting fro Sam Raimi.
9. Don’t Do Too Much All At Once – Well, maybe, but it's still Ash vs. Evil Monsters.
8. Don’t Rush Your Production – I think AoD was a pretty long production as these things go.
7. Don’t Wait Too Long – 5 years from ED2 to AoD. Not too bad.
6. Don’t Lose Your Icon – Still Ash, Still Deadites.
5. Deliver Something New – Went from a Haunted House movie to a horro-themed epic war. A lot like Alien to Aliens, in a way.
4. Don’t Change Your Tone Too Much – It risked this, but the big switch was ED to ED2, really... As the series firmly embraced comedy.
3. Don’t Be A Gimmick – What gimmick?
2. Resist Tossing Your Fish Out of Water – Maybe a bit (Ash in a weird medieval era setting) but as I mention above, it sticks to the core setting. if AoD was 120 minutes of Ash as a babysitter, we might have had a problem.
1. Adding Cute Things Is Fatal – I don't think they added any cute things, really. Maybe a couple of the skeletons? - solid12345, on 07/08/2009, -2/+6Raimi ***** up Venom on purpose just to piss off all the 1990s fanboys who wouldn't stop harassing him.
- mrkuder, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4obviously we haven't learned if we keep making the same mistakes
- monodelasno, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4Alien 4 made 3 look good.
- dagamer34, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Another example of "three-and-out" would be the Bourne Trilogy.
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3wat
- monodelasno, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3oh crap, I really should proofread when I'm masturbating.
Fixed it for ya - kevro, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Star Trek III was palatable. I mean come on, they found him.
- groo68, on 07/08/2009, -1/+4Because the one's that don't get rejected make bad third movies?
- Jagger750, on 07/08/2009, -2/+5Buried for 'Error establishing a database connection'.
- Zomgondo, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3What's with the Ewok hate? I mean - Chewbacca: cute and capable of ripping your arms out of your sockets. R2-D2: cute, excellent astromech, and you almost cried when you thought he got toasted in the run on the Death Star. Yoda: cute and the most badass Jedi ever. Tauntauns: cute and highly rideable. Ewoks: cute, not afraid to ***** ***** up, and you'll notice they didn't try to roast Leia. Why? BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO BONE HER, DUH.
Contrast to Jar Jar Binks, who had no redeeming qualities. - dagamer34, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Honestly, can anyone name a series that was still good at the end of the third movie? Unless it was clearly designed to be three-and-out like The Lord of the Rings (where they basically couldn't make anymore), I can't think of a series that didn't ***** on itself.
- HTIZ, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Pirates 3 was better than Pirates 2
- ftwb, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Harry Potter, Back to the Future, the Vengeance Trilogy, Star Wars, most people would say Indiana Jones, and Godfather III was nominated for Best Picture, after all.
I generally agree with you, just playing devil's advocate. - MrMugoo, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Hey, remember the Three Ninja's threequel?
Neither do I - nepidae, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3diehard 3 was good. but diehard 4 sucked balls
- Matt8Matt, on 07/08/2009, -6/+8Threequel is not a word, whatever the Oxford English Dictionary says. (Neither is muggle or grrrl).
- wolfbane691, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Wow the dude who wrote this has serious diarrhea of the key board.
- Balanced, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3Han.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2How about Naked Gun 33 1/3, Army of Darkness, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and just about any Godzilla movie in the Heisei series.
- aronnyc, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2No one mentioned X-Men 3, Scream 3. Was there a "I Know What You Did Last Summer 3"?
- malloryhoke, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2third time's not a charm eh?
- StEligius, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Wow, whats with the hostility someone step on your pecker?
- loneraver, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2oh crap, I really should proofread when I'm multitasking
- dagamer34, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3Most would say they ***** up Oceans 12 though...
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2I'm still surprised there was a Crocodile Dundee 3. I've never heard of it.
- Meocross, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Hollywood doesn't care anymore as long as they make big bucks they will throw scripts into lava if they have to
