- GorfTron, on 11/18/2008, -0/+27Spirited Away was particularly good.
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -0/+18Apparently Asian cinema is not accessible to this blogger unless it contains martial arts. Tis a shame because the films coming out of South Korea are the *****.
- DrZmobie, on 11/18/2008, -3/+19Buried for no Oldboy.
- faceless323, on 11/17/2008, -0/+15If you like City of God, I highly recommend Tropa De Elite
Tropa de Elite (trailer) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsXSnQ_NxuI - mhmandthen, on 11/18/2008, -0/+13Amelie, Spirited Away, Pan's Labyrinth. All good movies.
- asgardshill, on 11/18/2008, -1/+9No Hayao Miyazaki? Bury city.
- Benjamintc, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7Pan's Labyrinth and City of God are all-time favorites. Some other good choices too. I guess I can forgive Life is Beautiful since the criterium was accessibility.
Agreed that there is a lack of Asian films, but then again, Asians are crazy. Ever seen a Korean flick? I love 'em, but again: accessibility. - CosmoKramer, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6District B13 is accessible to all action fans.
- jeddyftb, on 11/18/2008, -1/+7I just watched Run Lola Run for a film class and I cannot imagine a more intense movie. After its brief 81 minutes, you'll feel like you've run a marathon...in the best way possible.
- arichard, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6...really?
- ELCad, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6I loved Run Lola Run. Glad to see it made the list.
Pan’s Labyrinth and Life is Beautiful are really great films that I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't seen them.
That chic in Amelie is just to cute.
List needs Spirited Away. - NathanielJ, on 11/18/2008, -1/+6I *love* Oldboy, but it is hardly what I would call accessible.
- neocr0n, on 11/18/2008, -2/+7Adding to the list, Old Boy, Lady Vengeance, Brotherhood, Amores Perros, Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle, Nightwatch, Daywatch. All great foreign movies and should be easy to find In local DVD stores.
- raeboyz, on 11/18/2008, -1/+6Lives of Others, 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days, and Amores Perros should all be on the list. Glad to see Pan's Labyrinth, City of God, and Amelie.

- yeahblah, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Thought the 2006 Norwegian film Reprise (a coming-of-age drama?) was "accessible" and kinda cool:

Christmas Tale - rromansanturio, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4What about oldboy? That is a movie...
- NathanielJ, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Some sources (read: stupid blogs) are still talking as if it's happening, but even if it's technically still a go it's clearly in some kind of development purgatory, so I wouldn't worry about it.
- PueSi, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4You got that right! The Host ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCsBMwK40hw ) and My Sassy Girl ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIBodxsKp_w ) are two korean flicks on the top of my head that i really enjoyed..
Oldboy was very good too. - MikeXpop, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4I'd add Good Bye Lenin to that list. Very good film, very accessible.
- scrugby, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Incomplete list, and the lack of Hong Kong cinema is tragic... How you can leave Infernal Affairs off a list like this after the success of the Departed is beyond me... Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was absolute gash, they should have lead with Hero and House of Flying Daggers, but people need to get away from the more mainstream "kung Fu" films, unless they are watching Ong Bak with Tony Jaa... Awesome.
- gamesector, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I would have added Der Untergang too.
- TheNakedChef, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I don't get what he means by accessible? How much brain power can it take to figure out a movie which has a different plot than the usual hollywood fair. Not all movies need to strive for the lowest common dominator when it comes to audience. That's why I'm a huge fan of foreign flicks, they offer something different.
- Gigabutt, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnx2CjhHADM - Autodidaddict, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3y tu mama tambien was a good movie too - should be on the list
- Kyora, on 11/18/2008, -2/+5A Tale of Two Sisters.
***** horror ftw. - MustacheFace, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Let the Right One In.
- awlllwa, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I second Nightwatch and Daywatch. Two of my favorite movies.
- rromansanturio, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I think Amores Perros was way better, ans is only listed not highlighted...
- jfdolier, on 11/17/2008, -2/+5Dugg for Tsotsi. I love that movie.
- zombiemosess, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4Hear hear. Amelie is one of my favorite movies.
- glinsvad, on 11/17/2008, -2/+5Das Experiment is awesome. One to watch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw5sUfMcQpc - Georgy, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Also recommend Se jie(Lust, Caution) by Ang Lee, one of the best movies i've seen in recent times...
- drguerra, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2One of the best lists I've seen on Digg. I've seen all but Tsotsi and Lagaan. Although, I'm fond of crouching tiger. Really just love this list. These are some of my absolute favorite films.
- queenofpainting, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Save the Green Planet!
- MChiphop, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2i heard the remake got canned? is it uncanned?
- Togepi, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2the perception of "foreign" seems ironic
- DNABeast, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Check out "Welcome to the Sticks" from France. This comedy film is extremely accessible and hillariously funny.
- ICSU, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2The Counterfeiters
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0813547/ - glendower, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2dugg solely for Pan's Labyrinth. The film is well worth the subtitle reading.
- eyezt, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Let the Right One In, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.
- PueSi, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2La Vita e Bella is one of the most drepessing films I've seen...
- ELCad, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2You right about Hero and House of Flying Daggers. Both are amazing, but I would go with Hero.
- harmlessdrudge, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2From where I sit foreign films are American films.
American films can be inaccessible to Americans when they contain in-jokes for foreigners, such as when Arnold Schwarzenegger picked up a packet of recognizably Austrian biscuits in a supermarket in a Terminator movie--funny to Austrians and not noticed at all by Americans.
However, this idea that foreign = inaccessible is, frankly, American.
In what other developed country would people not be insulted by a news round up called "Around the world in 80 seconds" ?
The correct pronunciation is FORN. Not just can us forners see your country from our house, we own some of it and we speak your language too. You're very accessible! - spikeismoo, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2Has this blogger actually seen City Of God? Because i could swear that Rocket aspires to be a photographer, not a writer.
- Ja50n, on 11/18/2008, -0/+2don't forget oldboy
