- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -4/+32I disagree. Living isn't great. It's only slightly better than suicide.
- noisymime, on 11/01/2008, -1/+24No Dr Strangelove?!?! I mean c'mon, he rides a nuclear bomb!
- davidarcila, on 01/10/2009, -1/+23Jisatsu Sakuru (Suicide Circle) Train Jump is the most memorable movie suicide i've ever seen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n0NCqOKY-M - HiroOfShadows, on 11/01/2008, -0/+19Honestly, no Dead Poet Society?
That was the most memorable for sure, at least in my book. - cl2yp71c, on 11/01/2008, -0/+19Number 3 is the right movie, but the wrong person.
When Brooks hung himself, I could've swore I had something in my eye. - btschul, on 11/01/2008, -0/+15Technically he didn't kill himself. He just shot a hole in his cheek.
- theutopian, on 10/31/2008, -10/+24Suicide is stupid.
Living is great. - Machine16, on 10/31/2008, -2/+16I'm pretty sure there isn't a suicide in Fight Club, at least the movie. The narrator puts a gun in his mouth and pulls the trigger, but it's Tyler that no longer exists afterwards. I know Tyler is, or is part of, the narrator, but still. The narrator and Marla then hold hands and watch the buildings around them crumble. So I don't think that's a suicide, not if the narrator is still alive.
- inactive, on 10/31/2008, -0/+12Interesting point... was it perhaps a murder of one of the personalities?
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+11Suicide is fun, but only once.
- solid12345, on 11/01/2008, -1/+11Anyone ever noticed Predator is one of the few movies to transcend Arnold? Like when you mention the movie "Predator" you think less of Arnold as you do the actual creature, unlike the Terminator series where you think of Arnold.
- Brododium, on 11/01/2008, -0/+9What about Chris Walken's character in The Deerhunter?
- levitron, on 10/31/2008, -0/+9Seeing this list though, there's a difference between self-sacrifice suicide, and too depressed to continue/feeling hopeless suicide. The people first category don't want to die, but do it for the greater good. The second group feels trapped, and that this is the only choice.
Personally, I'd rather not be in either situation... - apophenic, on 11/01/2008, -0/+8Not sure if you're talking about literally being buried in a coffin, or metaphorically about growing old and miserable in a cubicle.
- Machine16, on 10/31/2008, -0/+8Perhaps, sure. I read the book, and it's somewhat ambiguous as to if the narrator dies, but it's hinted that Tyler is still around either way. In the movie, though, there's no indication that the narrator dies and we see Tyler collapse with his brains blown out. The narrator pulled the trigger, so it's a real stretch to call that a suicide. At best, it's the suicide of part of his personality.
- drgonzo08, on 11/01/2008, -0/+8how about when william h macy walks into the room with a smile on his face and blows his brains out in Boogie Nights?
- Sornos, on 11/01/2008, -0/+8Brooks was here.
- btschul, on 11/01/2008, -0/+7Brendan Gleeson's in In Bruges was better than some of these.
- merdiesel, on 11/01/2008, -0/+7That opening scene to Beerfest was stupid as *****...
Yeah, watching a guy die of liver failure really made me want to pound of couple of beers afterwords. - allyant, on 11/01/2008, -0/+7WTF...
- rft3rd, on 11/01/2008, -0/+7Thelma and Louise. Vroom Vroom.
- roessnakhan, on 11/01/2008, -1/+7Dead Poet's Society.
Brooks' Death from Shawshank.
Also, if attempted suicides would have counted then The Royal Tennanbaums should be on that list. - inactive, on 11/01/2008, -1/+7I would go to a suicide booth, but I need my quarters to do my laundry.
***** yeah I just referenced two different futurama episodes in one comment! - antonio97b, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6Why would they do that? It's a list about suicides....
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6Easy win for the Predator, I cant imagine a more badass way to go than going nuclear and taking your enemies with you in an atomic hellfire, all while laughing like a maniac.
- peestandingup, on 11/01/2008, -0/+6Complete fail for not including Father Damien Karras' "getting possessed by the devil then coming to your senses long enough to take a flying leap out the window" suicide from The Exorcist.
- MillionsLivio, on 11/01/2008, -2/+7Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Did your parents have any children that lived?
Private Gomer Pyle: Sir, Yes, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Well how about they regret that? You are so ugly you can be a modern art master piece! What's your name fat-body?
Private Gomer Pyle: Sir, Leonard Lawrence, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Lawrence? Lawrence what of Arabia?
Private Gomer Pyle: Sir, No, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: That name sounds like royalty are you royalty?
Private Gomer Pyle: Sir, No, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Do you suck dicks?
Private Gomer Pyle: Sir, No, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: *****. I bet you could suck a golfball through a garden hose.
Private Gomer Pyle: Sir, No, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: I don't like the name Lawrence, only ***** and sailors are called Lawrence. From now on you're Gomer Pyle.
Private Gomer Pyle: Sir, Yes, sir. - krispykreams, on 11/01/2008, -1/+6Why does he add a little clause about the soldiers in Predator not raping their hostage? ...
- armakaryk, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5"hello boys! i'm baack!"
- dieAntagonista, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5Yeah except he didn't kill himself in the movie? Might wanna rewatch that one.
- btschul, on 11/01/2008, -0/+5While that is an awesome scene from an awesome movie, he didn't commit suicide. He involuntarily fell to his death.
- Kickinuarou, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4They forgot the guy in Titanic who shoots tommy then himself, 1st Officer Murdoch played by Ewan Stewart, how could you not list that
- crushfan, on 11/01/2008, -1/+5"Goodbye, my friend, without a touch of hand, without a word, Don't be sad and do not frown, Dying is nothing new in this life, And living, of course, isn't any newer." -- Sergei Yesenin
- rft3rd, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4Damn being dugg down. No props for the MASH theme song? Pft.
- Brododium, on 11/01/2008, -0/+4I feel sick after watching that, but I have to agree that it's memorable.
All of those poor Japanese schoolgirls... - crossmr, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3Darth Vader is Luke's father
oh and apparently Jesus rises from the dead after 3 days.
There are expiry dates on this ***** man. - DreamVsPs2, on 11/01/2008, -2/+5Charlie from Lost. RIP
- rft3rd, on 11/01/2008, -2/+5Suicide is painless.....
- StayCee, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3Ralph Fiennes's too!
- inactive, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3dust? an eyelash? WHAT WAS IN YOUR EYE?! I must know.
- robthom, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3What do you mean its not memorable?
- LowROI, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3so was red
- noisymime, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3It may have been subconscious, but voluntarily jumping on a 'stuck' bomb above an open bay door is suicide. Also, its not like he was exactly sad about it...
- amauldin71, on 11/01/2008, -3/+6Who wakes up one day and thinks "I'm going to come up with a list of memorable movie suicides"?
What next? "Ten Memorable Movie Cancer Victims"? - crushfan, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3OH MY ***** GOD, I'm sooooo going to watch that film tonight!
- Sacrifice, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3Agreed, though I wouldn't call the first category suicide at all. It is simply self-sacrifice. Private Jenette Vasquez & Lt. William Gorman from Aliens and Russell Casse from Independence Day do not belong on that list. I would also question the Ripley entry from Alien3.
- RexxxMaster, on 11/01/2008, -0/+3Its sick to chose a fate of decomposing in a box for 30 years. i can't even ever think of ever doing it.
- dlan4327, on 11/01/2008, -0/+2For me it's when Billy kills himself in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
It was right at the end when McMurphy get's Billy laid for the first time & he's finally beginning to feel confident.
Then Nurse Ratchet finds Billy & tells him she'll inform his mother & that his mother won't be too pleased.
Billy flips out opens his veins. McMurphy is inconsolable & tries to strangle Nurse Ratchet.
It all ends up with Nurse Ratchet living & Billy dying & McMurphy getting lobotomized. I swear there is no justice. - Acglaphotis, on 11/01/2008, -0/+2A guy about 2 comments up.
- robthom, on 11/01/2008, -0/+2That was another good one. Its not really a very comprehensive list, they skipped over a lot of stuff.
