- KingGorilla, on 09/05/2008, -1/+39America could use an autobahn
- WestonP, on 09/05/2008, -1/+33Or you could save your $125,000, join the National Auto Sport Association for $44 per year, and only pay around $100-200 per track day to drive on a variety of tracks (and that includes your own instructor for people who haven't driven on the track before). No need for pretentious net worth requirements or some super exotic car (they have everything from Fords to Ferraris), and you can actually learn how to drive better than most of the exotic guys who think their cars will do everything for them.

- lostsymphonies1, on 09/05/2008, -1/+19Damn, that puts me $4,999,000 under the limit!
- biogears, on 09/05/2008, -3/+21How long will it take before the class warfare comments arrive - 5,4,3,2...
- 80min700mb, on 09/05/2008, -0/+15Even grammar.
- RomeyRome, on 09/05/2008, -0/+15Poor people suck.
- sangosimo, on 09/05/2008, -3/+18Atleast the middle class is covered /s
- StevenBullen, on 09/05/2008, -1/+13"Monticello's application form asks would-be members to check one of three boxes indicating their net worth. There is no category below $5 million. This is clearly a club aimed at Wall Street types, executives and high-end professionals. Members are generally "north of $20 million," McMichael said."
$5mill + - ouch! - xcheats, on 09/05/2008, -2/+13Agreed. Coast to Coast Autobahn FTW.
- luke374, on 09/05/2008, -1/+12Hooray! It only took 8 comments for someone to make an unnecessary political comment!
- WestonP, on 09/05/2008, -2/+12Unfortunately, our idiot drivers couldn't handle it. 55 MPH is already too much for plenty of people. We need some REAL driver education and training, and it has to be mandatory. Europe is kicking our ass on this big time.
- wigginz, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9Uh, I pay $285 for a day (5x20 minute sessions) at Thunderhill Raceway (usually all private tracks have similar programs). Anyone can go and you can have an instructor in the car with you for no extra $. You can even bring your 1983 Camry... as long as you stay out of my way heh.
Why would you pay 125k a year? If you're going to the track enough to make that worth it, you're probably spending another $125k in brakes and tires. I don't get it, even if you can afford it... - crazzy88ss, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9Or you could drive 90 minutes from your manhattan apartment/suite/penthouse and do it at this place...
- tarunbk, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10one could make a dozen trips to germany, and drive on their autobahns and even the Nurburgring for that amount... No Speed Limits and Professional Formula 1 Circuit....
- BitKid, on 09/06/2008, -0/+8(mandatory environmental comment)
What America needs is a C2C high-speed rail system powered by solar and other renewable energy sources. - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8Dugg because his name is Bill McMichael?
- regression, on 09/06/2008, -0/+7pardon me, would you have any grey poupon?
- Antimatt, on 09/05/2008, -1/+8Including my house, my net worth is somewhere around a negative $210,000. I've got a ways to go.
- TheCasablancan, on 09/06/2008, -0/+6My dad had a Geo when I was younger.
The 3 cyl model got 40 something miles to the gallon, and could do highway speed, but one time when we were moving, we came to a very large hill. The poor little car was working it's ass off to get up the hill, but alas, it couldn't. My dad said:
"Get out and push. When we get to the top, you can hop back in."
I pushed the car while he had the pedal to the metal, and unfortunately when we reached the top, he did something goofy with the clutch and the car lurched forward, making me fall on my face.
It hurt a lot. - nitemonkey, on 09/06/2008, -0/+6but of course...
- mr5150, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6What a life, where the biggest problem is where one can go and drive at breakneck speeds legally and pay a small fee of $125K to ensure i have that ability whenever they choose.
Now if i can only get the net worth of 5 Million + i'll be happy to join. - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7Well you got your name right, troll.
- kmss1, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7*****! Yes, I'm jealous...
- flair1, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6down a mountain with hurricane winds at your back if the wheels don't fall off first
- ramenite, on 09/06/2008, -0/+5If i could dig you up more than +1 I would have.
I also didn't care for that half backhanded comment about Lime Rock near the end of the article either. Like LRP was some sort of lesser circuit. Given the choice of some rich fantasy track, or a track day on one of the US's premier circuits, I'll choose Lime Rock. - tacom8, on 09/05/2008, -1/+6Thankfully those 90 mph Hyundai's and minivans are some of the finest crafted machines on the planet.
- pakakapa, on 09/06/2008, -0/+4or you could do both to get rid of your pocket change
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -0/+4Muahahaha... this probably isn't the place to mention my electric Ferrari
- Vikaas, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4And I'm about $700 under you!
- dan222555, on 09/06/2008, -0/+4lol @ "not even a civic..."
That combination of words shouldn't be a part of any legitimate motorsports discussion. - wrestlingnrj, on 09/06/2008, -0/+4Get yourself an STi or an Evo with a good suspension setup and you could be destroying the supercars all day. Brother's friend completely flew by a new Viper and M5 at Willow Springs race track when we were there last weekend. Widebody STi, stock everything else minus the $8k dropped into the suspension. The looks on the other two drivers faces after being destroyed by a 4 cylinder when they got off the track was priceless.
- Vikaas, on 09/05/2008, -2/+6I'm better than you.
- 80min700mb, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4Or Nazis in general.
- xcheats, on 09/05/2008, -2/+5Proud of that?
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -2/+5Or you can just to onto a German motorway and drive as fast as you like for free legally. I was pootling along at 260kph along the autobahn (new car in foreign country and was wary about breaking down so took it easy) and people were blasting past me fairly regularly.
Phillip. - bigj480, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3No way a Geo Metro can do 140. NOT EVEN my stock pinto can do that. Well maybe it could without the limiter on it.....
LOL, thanks for throwing the "SI" in there, otherwise I would not have known that it was such a performance vehicle. BRB, GTG drag race my cavalier. - gubatron2, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3you suck
- BitKid, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3Its a status thing. Its for all the other guys who can afford to pay the fee and afford the car to hang out with each other and shoot the breeze. They probably do about 20min of driving and then sit in the lounge and blab about bond futures.
This is how rich people make friends. They spend a lot of money on some activity that they are vaguely interested in which gets them closer to other rich folks who are vaguely interested in it, which then allows them to hang out doing their so called hobbies together. By spending all that money you therefore attract friends of a similar nature since you don't want to be friends with people outside your tax bracket. - ChileanGoD, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3Germany?
- dan222555, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3It's society's obligation to make you money?
- wigginz, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2Try getting your Metro up to 140mph between two turns at a race track, not three miles of straight downhill freeway heh.
- gubatron2, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2It's another level. It's the only way to have your car next to cars in the same category, being able to race other cars up to your standards. 125k is nothing for this people, I'd do it too, most of them have already invested very well their money, and probably make every month on interest what would take me 10 years to make, they're not dumb when it comes to money, they do it because they can.
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3Where The Rich Go To Drive Fast?
Where ever the ***** we want!! We're rich!!! Just kidding... - dan222555, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3The driving experience is not about getting somewhere.
- RomeyRome, on 09/05/2008, -4/+6Should of worked harder huh?
- ryusen, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2it's more of a rich hob nob club than a car club.. the car and the track is just dressing.
- Vapid, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3shut the ***** up
