It just looks like too much fun. - KennMac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23@RealHyperx
VW has absolutely nothing to do with the sound of this thing. It's a goddamn bike engine. What do you expect? - Retrospekt, on 10/11/2007, -6/+24*German Accent*
VDub in da house yo - samuelcotterall, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16And what do you drive?
- j2los, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15@0x0000ff, @coit
It was a cabriolet that was a girl's car not the rabbit/gti. - hifiDesign, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Ludicrous speed!
- qazyhoods, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14or just get the motorcycle, all the power, none of the weight
- xedd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12"And what do you drive?"
Probably his Mommy's Hummer. - ozid, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Why would the "pistons eject themselves through the engine block"? There are higher horsepower hayabusa motors still in BIKES... you'd be more in danger of dropping a valve or something. And on a bike, thats when I'd be scared of something happening. (Let alone keeping it ground, holy *****)
- ozid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12THAT is a worthwhile swap :P
- fober, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13I wonder if the bike weighs more than that MK1 Golf.
- badave, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9No.
- travisb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Check out these 400HP classic Mini's with Hayabusa engines here: http://www.zcars.org.uk/montecarlo/index.htm
They look very fast. - robbiedo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I currently own 3 bikes, and one is a 2005 Busa. The bike has such smooth power at any point in its powerband, just a flick of the wrist and it literally rockets down the road.
The Busa's problem is that the power is so smooth and so fast, it seduces you into thinking you are going slower than you really are, and the brakes, while good, are not on the same level with the engine power. Plus it is 100 lbs. heavier than a typical liter bike, so the momentum at even moderate speeds makes the bike more difficult to stop cleanly and maneuver under duress. It is an exciting bike to ride, and I mean that in all senses of the word, but it takes constant discipline. - epilonious, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7They've gone to.... Plaid!
- giddytonk, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Oh ya, I remember talking about the Golf on another story yesterday on Digg...pertaining to girlie cars. I guess this makes it a transvestite car.
http://www.automotiveblogger.net/dude-you-bought-a-girl-car/ - KMartSheriff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Oh Schnapp!
- cycledesign, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's a GSX-R1000 engine, not a Hayabusa.
- epilonious, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This brings a whole new meaning to ThunderBunny.
I dunno. I've always been more of a fan of dropping rotaries into cars that were never designed for them. Same "I can rev to 15,000" tuning aspirations but when the whole thing blows apart it's much cheaper to replace the shattered bits. - general13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"That thing is goofy yet frightening."
That's what she said. - MadOgre, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Makes me remember my 1984 Rabbit GTI. Great sports car. One of the best. Scary fast and handled like a razor blade.
I'd love to give a 350 horse example a spin. - o2sk8, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I have a friend who installed a zcar kit in his shop except they used a Yamaha YZF-R1 motor I believe. Very cool stuff.
- breakaway, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It wont blow apart. 13,000 RPM is where such an engine likes to play.
- Le3f, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There was also the video of the Smart Car with a Hayabusa engine in it that made it to the front page of the video section a few days ago...
http://digg.com/videos/sports/Smart_car_with_Hayabusa_engine - ZachRetox, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5SICK... this was done with a MK 4 Polo as well iirc.
- wbxhc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You're right, the ZX14 is now the fastest production sportbike around but the Busa still can crush. And doesn't the Busa dyno at somewhere around 170HP?? Just curious.
- semvhu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There is no way to tell how fast it really is from those videos. The video kept zooming in and out and didn't give a good indication for its quickness. Show a clip at the local drag strip to make me a believer.
Still, I'm sure that it's faster than my mostly stock 1999 Grand Prix. :) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@RuthlessPirate
This is the real world, not a magazine stat list. The Busa has been tuned for almost 10 years now and ZX14 just came out last year. Which do you think is easier to tune, had more data, is cheaper, and is easier to get? - xspinkickx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2those are nice videos but I dunno how fast its going, I need some numbers....
/computer nerd - Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@jjhack (#6720917)
Smartuki is what its called. - eldar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1But WHY is it faster? Just cause it is faster does not mean it has a more powerful engine. It could have different gearing or be lighter or more aerodynamic.
- SlapTard, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1RuthlessButtPirate is a lame kid, that's all.
- demonstro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1These things redline at an enormous amount of revs......
The Ariel Atom is supposed to be great fun http://www.arielmotor.co.uk/04/frames.htm
There was a rumour going round about Hayabusa lumps in a few of them - scarily quick.... - KennMac, on 10/11/2007, -6/+7Being heavily involved in the VW community, I know maybe two girls that drive the Golf/GTI. You rejects are confusing this with the Jetta.
- wenzor, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Spoken by someone who knows nothing about cars or motorcycles.
- eldar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1We passed em!!!!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3your GN is an overpriced redneckmobile. you could buy that golf the engine, and all the upgrades, plus still have $ to insure it for the price of your raced stolen and abused 20 year old GN.
- Septimus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Sounds like the Vauxhall Corsa's from that Disney stunt show that use Hyabusa engines.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0SO COOL!
- cosulliv755, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Yikes ! 350 HP from a hayabusa motor .. thats Amazing.. and scary.. but mostly amazing.. Gawd.. image how that must feel to drive mounted in a motorbike frame.. and I thought my 1800cc 120 HP Goldwing was a handful..
- abxy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1***** man, I saw Hayabusa in the title and thought it was some sort of Ninja Gaiden related golf game.
- Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Theres loads of people modifying golfs, very popular car to modify in Europe, due to them being cheap to buy, insure, and having LOTS of parts available for them. My dad owned one when i was younger, and we used to visit VW car shows/trackdays. I've seen some pretty badass golf lemme tell you.
For example, the twin engined Mk1 GTI, a Twin Engined Mk2 Gti, (one in front like normal, other one thrown into the boot) a 400 BHP Golf G60, 600 BHP Rallye's ect.
Anyone who says these are girls cars, haven't seen the golfs I've seen. They'd smoke most of the cars you people think are cool. - AeroSquid, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1meh. i like the STi go-cart better
- liuite, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0The Brits may be referring to bhp (brake horse power)
Nominal is derived from the size of the engine and the piston speed and is only accurate at a pressure of 7 psi.[1]
Indicated or gross horsepower (theoretical capability of the engine)
minus frictional losses within the engine (bearings drag, rod and crankshaft windage losses, oil film drag, etc.), equals
Brake / net / crankshaft horsepower (power delivered directly to and measured at the engine's crankshaft)
minus frictional losses in the transmission (bearings, gears, oil drag, windage, etc.), equals
Shaft horsepower (power delivered to and measured at the output shaft of the transmission, when present in the system)
minus frictional losses in the universal joint/s, differential, wheel bearings, tire and chain, (if present), equals
Effective or True (thp) or sometimes, wheel horsepower
