- Chemiee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+99Some people, I dont really understand how you could complain after moving next to a race track,
Idiots, we have a bunch here in PHX that moved next to Luke AFB and then bitch about the jets
how bout you move your lazy ass somewhere else, the world doesnt need to change to suit you - TravisG5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45Oh, yes, people who move near airports are annoying. There is an airport near me where they decided to station MediVac helicopters, and one guy who wasn't so happy about it decided to lead a fight against the helicopters. The best part is that a little later during his attempts to remove the helicopters, he was injured at work and was saved by... yes... a MediVac helicopter. He still hates the helicopters being by his house.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28I think it's rather silly as well, but people have the right to race at a 'race' track.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31Agreed. Someone needs to go drifting in their front lawn.
- mal1964, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25humans are dumb
- SLYK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I find it funny how they BUILT the house there. Don't you think they would have done a little recon before they put it there?
The little voice in my head would've gone "Hey...loud cars race here, maybe I should think about building my house on the other side of the hill." - cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Move near loud facility, race-track, airport, etc., you have assumed the risk that it might get ***** LOUD YOU ***** DIMWIT!!!!
- luftrofl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I've been there once and that family is so stupid. They decided to live next to a car racetrack, a freeway, AND a motocross track. Maybe they should have done some research.
Edit: don't start a drifting flamewar. It's happened countless times already and nobody convinces anyone of anything. - assum09, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Honestly you can't complain after moving RIGHT next to a race track. It's like the whole Gaim and AIM thing. Gaim had the name before AIM, but now Gaim has to change it because AOL just decided to use AIM.
Arseholes - Gareshra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I agree. I have no interest in cars or drifting or anything of that nature, but this is still the most retarded thing I've ever read. That's like banning drinking at a bar, skating at a skatepark, or reading in a library. It doesn't make sense.
- afruff23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15@asum09
Humans are animals... - Coven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I got from TFA that the guy built the MX track himself, adding even further to his hypocrisy
- MobiusRenoire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Gotta love what they named the retard's picture.. "constipated.jpg"
- razrielle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Curling i think is a dumb sport, do you think im going to go around trying to ban it. Different strokes for different folks, let people have their fun
- L0phtpDK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Of course!
We are just expressing our opinion of disagreement by burying you. - r00tus3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Being rich must be fun ...
- mehau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Therefore animals are dumb!
Q.E.D. - neverender, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11gimme a break...
when you build your house right here:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/c/a/2006/09/17/BAG1RL7B9K1.DTL&o=1
you have NO right to complain! - neverender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I did. I also read OTHER articles as well.
""
Rivard and his neighbors also began logging in noise complaints to the Sheriff's Department.
-
He has spent $20,000 on lawyers and sound experts
-
Rivard says, the track cranked up rock 'n' roll on the sound system to full blast

The best response ive seen is:
But county Supervisor Scott Haggerty, who represents the area, isn't very sympathetic.
"If people move close to a horse stable, they should be prepared to smell the manure,'' Haggerty said. "If they buy a house next to a racetrack, they should be prepared to hear cars racing." - 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"They decided to live next to a car racetrack, a freeway, AND a motocross track."
If they don't like it I'll take it off their hands... I think that kinds of infrastructure are things I would look for when house shopping :D - z3021017, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9So according to the complainers it's okay to have a race there, just no drift events?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They should arrange for a few midnight Formula Ford races there.
Those ***** are the loudest frigging cars I've ever heard! - assum09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@afruff
Man that ***** is deep... - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Silly metric system, with its easy-to-use units!
There are five thousand two hundred and eighty feet in a mile because it's LOGICAL! - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I just dugg this whole thread.
You guys are all winners - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9in all fairness, i laugh at other countries with their inferior monetary systems and CENTIGRADE THERMOMETERS. losers!!!
- rome747, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That's their problem. They moved there. They even built a house there. They should have known the consequences.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7why the hell would you build a "dream home" be in the middle of a treeless wasteland next to a racecar track?
it looks like tornado fodder anyways :) kind of like a giant trailer home. - assum09, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Animals can type?
Sweeeeet - blkhwk86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Unfortunately i live about 20 miles from altamont. There are these people all over the ***** place. Altamont is world famous after the Rolling Stones concert there in the 60s/70s when someone was killed. They should not have the ban as they are the ones who moved there with the raceway already there. Move to liverwhore or somewhere else if you don't want noise. There are way too many people who do this in the bay area. they think they are entitled to whatever they want because they have money. Out where i am, we have had people bitch because there was a development in the hills above their houses(and they were already on the hills) only because they could see the roofline of one house. It's a hyper sensitive nature for people in real estate. If you don't want noise, GO TO THE ***** MOUNTAINS AND BE A HERMIT. If you want to deal with other people and learn that you have to make sacrifices, then you can live with the normal people and live a normal life.
- razrielle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Lets see you make your car slide a little 6 inches from a wall without hitting it
- morriscat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You know, we really, really need a nationwide coalition of even-tempered neighbors to combat the uptight ones.
With a budget and lobbyists. I'm being totally serious here.
(and ah, damn is she ugly) - catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Drifting isn't racing though. They judge how good you slide your car. Drifting is to racing like figure skating is to hockey. That is to say, totally gay.
- mal1964, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6in Minnesota the only driftings we do is for walleyes
- deviantdarlings, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Same thing happened here in KC. Family members of a wealthy family here (Kemper) moved next to a track that had been there since the 60s and started bitching about the noise.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7who's calling it a sport? It's just a thing that some people do. Maybe some idiots think it's a sport, like NASCAR, but who cares? It's kind of neat. that's all. And if you don't like it, stop complaining about it, it's not hurting you.
- drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Sounds like the neighbors who bitched at us in High school for parking on the public streets, taking up all their parking. The school had been there longer then any house ever had. So its not as if this changed over night. Lets be honest though, this is America and we know people are this retarded, whats more surprising is that someone listened to this pathetic couple, actually I take that back, its to be expected that idiots can get away with crap like this, it is "America."
- ndonohue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5you've never been to a Formula 1 race then. I'd like to see that couple get pissed and move next to Indy.
- davidrools, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@hode
the technology developed over the years of racing has probably had the greatest impact on making street cars more economical, reliable, and better performing.
@lolcopter
i'll volunteer.
And seriously, getting rid of drifting at the track will just lead people to do it on the streets. There are a lot more deaths from street racing now that in the decades past. It's always been just as popular but there were dozens more dragstrips in the 50s than there are today. - crxyem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Have you ever tried to successfully drift a car. I'm not talking about mashing your gas peddle and burning out and sliding the rear tires a bit. It isn't easy to drift in a controlled manner.
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Not when people throw bricks through your window.
- vuke69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Being rich must be fun ..."
Obviously not, did you see the look on that bitches face? - francois87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5why build next to a speedway?
- ffejrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Are you ***** kidding me? I didn't think it would be THAT close in such a WIDE open area....
- MisterRik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The couple has one legitimate complaint - people drifting and pulling doughnuts on the road around the racetrack. They need the local pd to put a stop to that 'cos it's just dangerous. As for what goes on *in* the racetrack - as long as it is related to motorsport and approved by the track management - they should put up or shut up
- jumpfroggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3From the Better Altamont website:
8. Hasn't the racetrack been there for 40 years? Didn't you know there was a racetrack there when you purchased your property?
The racetrack has been there for 40 years (but has not been operating for 40 years) and the community has been here longer. The individuals that want the racetrack say that the people who live in the community knew there was a racetrack there when they purchased their property. That is most likely true, however the racetrack that was operating was a sleepy little track that ran races 1 night a week. On the other hand, AMP knew there was a community here when they purchased their racetrack, did they take the communities concerns into account when they purchased? Did they talk to anyone in the community to see how their planned changes would be received? I haven't talked to one person from this community that participated in this type of discussions with the AMP management. It had to take a Zoning Board Member in an East Alameda County zoning meeting in April 2006 to tell the AMP people to "talk to the community".
It boils down to "It wasn't loud when we bought the property. Now it is. We want it stopped." However, I do appreciate some of the other rationales on the website, http://www.betteraltamont.org/faqs.htm. I personally wish that police would step it up in that area and ticket/arrest/tow anyone misbehaving outside the track itself. I know they did that near our track (when it was open). I think racers should have a place to go race safely. I also think that street racers who do it outside the track should be stopped.
I'm trying to think of both sides now; If you're a racer, someone wants to stop your fun and get rid of the track. Those bastards.
If you're a homeowner, someone rams through your fence, leaves trash on your lawn, fills the dumpster you pay for to the brim, speeds down the streets near you, and causes noise at all hours of the night (not just during track hours). Those bastards.
So in my mind, both should be stopped; stupid homeowners, and stupid racers. All that would be left is homeowners that don't mind being near a track, and racers that behave themselves. Am I the first to recommend starting the a group, the "Community for an *Even* Better Altamont"? - ffejrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@kaneelson
Do you not understand sarcasm without "/sarcasm"? How sad... - viclazlo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4don't underestimate idjits like this. we have the same breed near us. well to do townsfolk who moved 45 min outside of the city to build McMansions right next to a GUN and RIFLE range.
oh they claim to "love the rural life" but are shocked that their peaceful bliss is ruined by what "sounds like a warzone" every weekend and at all hours of the day during the week.
they've been largely successful in getting the local board to enforce noise and operating hour restrictions on the range mainly because they've infiltrated the board as members.
none of the dim locals seem to notice or care that several of these "concerned" homeowners own a real estate development company and have already bought up all the property around the hundreds of acres the range occupies.
methinks shenanigans are afoot.
oh yes, these peeps know what they're doing. they buy the land for dirt cheap, build their McMansion on it and then lobby to get the race track or whatever it is they don't like closed down due to noise and environmental impacts.
then before you know it these coniving opportunists wind up just happening to build another sprawl of McMansions.
So much for the coyotes and wildlife.
bastiches like that should be used to defuse IEDs. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maybe if enough people make it clear that they're not happy with this couple, then they'll just sell their house and leave. And if enough people voice their support for the speedway then those in power will see than there are clearly many more people who want it than those who don't. It seams clear that they have ulterior motives.
The email I sent to them:
"So, why do you hate our freedom? You built a house next to a race track, and now you're trying to get the race track shut down. What if someone moved in next to you and tried to force you out of your home? You'd probably think they were first-rate *****. Right?
Or maybe you plan was more devious than that. Move in. Get the track shut down under the guise of "noise complaints", then buy the land and profit!
So, why do you hate our freedom? There's a million other places you could have moved that are quiet and serene. Why did you choose to move some place where people are enjoying themselves in a noisy manner and try to force them to stop?
So, why do you hate America?" - sonik3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If anyone RTFA you would learn, yes, they did know a race track was there when they moved in. They're not complaining about the noise. The husband's a racing enthusiast and built a private motocross course on his property. Their complaint is kids doing burnouts and drifting in the surrounding streets.
