- dknybbrz, on 06/09/2009, -24/+81Oh yeah, shocking. Some white guy from a rural area, hopped up on meth that thinks driving is a sport, I'm shocked to hear that attached to nascar
- ethanator1088, on 06/10/2009, -8/+47Considering NASCAR started from red necks trying to outrun the cops, because they were peddling moonshine, this is the next logical step.
- nigelmansell, on 06/10/2009, -2/+37I thought the drug of choice for Nascar drivers was SPEED.... aw... no..
- corykiser, on 06/10/2009, -9/+36that's redneck prejudice
if you replaced the word 'white' in that sentence with 'black', it would be racist - K4Lic0, on 06/10/2009, -8/+31You obviously don't understand auto racing. Next time you're on the highway, try going 150 mph for more than a couple of minutes and see how much you have to work. Now think about doing 180 mph for 4 hours straight while also having to avoid traffic and keeping a hold of the car so it doesn't spin out.

- akchrs, on 06/10/2009, -10/+28And if you replaced the word "Meth" with "Marijuana" you would be accused of denying him his medicine.
- catalysis, on 06/10/2009, -4/+22meth is probably a performance enhancing drug in racing, and im not kidding (but its still funny)
- 0260, on 06/10/2009, -4/+21If he was ever high while going 170 mph... that man is awesome.
- IffyG, on 06/10/2009, -2/+15Here is a pharmacology lesson for everyone. Adderall is a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. If he is taking Adderall, of course he is going to test positive for methamphetamine. If he has a legit prescription for the Adderall, he shouldn't face any sanctions.
- Maxjan, on 06/10/2009, -3/+15We don't get paid to drive our cars.
- captspaulding, on 06/10/2009, -1/+13That is an awful idea. Meth heads are the absolute bottom of the barrel scum. Instead legalize marijuana and have the cops focus on busting up some meth labs and people tweaked out of their mind.
- borez, on 06/10/2009, -0/+11Well in my experience ( of amphetamine but not the meth kind ) you can can get highly focused and driven on that stuff quite easily without any consideration of the consequences ... although you may find the need to babble random ***** down the radio for long periods of time.
- ben72227, on 06/10/2009, -1/+12I think it's being blown out of proportion. It says in the article the guy has a prescription for Adderall (which would test positive on a drug test as methamphetamine, since Adderall is a combination of various amphetamines). If he truly has ADHD and is taking Adderall to treat it, we shouldn't be so quick to judge. I mean, especially since most of you are always defending people who use 'medical marijuana'; Adderall is basically 'medical amphetamine.'
- gvoakes, on 06/10/2009, -10/+20I can hear his mullet flapping gently in the breeze... on the way to jail
- thscientist1, on 06/10/2009, -1/+10you realize you said its "not bad" to lock a human in a room because of their mental/ physical condition for 4 hours due to drugs they were administered. yeah thats ok. totally cool.
- TylerDuhrdan, on 06/10/2009, -1/+10If he is on Adderall he will test positive. Bury for misleading title.
- TimDigg, on 06/10/2009, -1/+10http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASCAR#History
wow I thought you just made that up.... - inactive, on 06/10/2009, -2/+11If I got paid obscene amounts of money to drive a few hours a week, I'd better be good at it without needing a boost.
- screensnot, on 06/10/2009, -1/+9I think K4Lic0 was trying to say that NASCAR is an actual sport.
I don't think he claimed that the drivers should be allowed to use drugs. - bobsworth, on 06/10/2009, -0/+7Actually, that would have been my first guess-amphetamines are essentially performance enhancing drugs, just ask any college student during finals...
- shadowspawn, on 06/10/2009, -5/+12They give meth to airforce pilots. Ones flying for up to 22 hours straight.
Yes. Meth. In pill form. Afterward, once they are done their mission, they are given ambien and lock them in a room for 4 hours to "come down" before debriefing. Meth is bad when it's abused, but it's been around for quite a while.
I don't do it, I don't have the physique for it. But it is used more than most realize.
Damn, people. "Go" and "No-Go" pills are a part of some lifestyles. Especially military. And it's issued. - tightscrummy, on 06/10/2009, -0/+6Don't kids today know about them Duke boys?
- mrremy, on 06/10/2009, -0/+6he more than likely tested positive for "Amphetamines" in general, meaning whatever was in his sample contained the amphetamine molecule skeleton. My money is on the press going straight to the negative buzz word METHAMPHETAMINE instead of the general category given..
- mrremy, on 06/10/2009, -0/+5And actually actually, it's not meth nor provigil. Dextroamphetamine (d-amphetamine, dexedrine, dex) is used as the most popular go pill. It's been used for a while, and yes they use benzos and non-benzo hypnotics for no-go to sleep after.
- PhillyMJS, on 06/10/2009, -0/+5Looks like he picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines. (Should've done it a week sooner.)
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -2/+6And he didn't rob a liquor store.
- thefreehunter, on 06/10/2009, -1/+5"although you may find the need to babble random ***** down the radio for long periods of time. "
Yep, that sounds about right. - m3arvk, on 06/10/2009, -0/+4Isn't the bigger point that we are giving our kids amphetamines?
- sizzzzlerz, on 06/10/2009, -3/+7Now think about it with some doofus hopped up on meth drafting the bumper of another car at 200 mph.
Yeah, I can't see what could possibly go wrong either. - BigVi, on 06/10/2009, -6/+10This is WAY worse than steroids.
- bradleyland, on 06/10/2009, -3/+7Try hitting a baseball over the fence at any major league ball park.
Try rushing for 100 yards in any football game where the defensive line averages 270 lbs
Try shooting a 3 pointer when a 6'10" dude is trying to block your shot.
Do we excuse other professional athletes when they are accused of drug use?
Just because a sport is hard doesn't excuse the use of drugs by participants. - elliotys, on 06/10/2009, -0/+4News flash people! You think steroids are a big problem? Amphetamines in general are abused way more by professional athletes than steroids. The funny thing is that if these ***** new anything about chemistry they would have acidified their urine. Methamphetamine is a base, and if you acidify your urine it becomes ionized and trapped in your kidneys and gets excreted. Instead of staying in your body for 4-6 days, its out in 12-16 hours.
- akchrs, on 06/10/2009, -1/+5Actually they are pretty fit, except maybe Tony Stewart.
- ousthouse, on 06/10/2009, -2/+5I'd like to see some baseball players attempt a triathlon.
- diggmeordie, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3It's considered a performance enhancer and banned in major league gaming and other cybersports for this very reason.
- tmyprod, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3You missed a comma after "Digg".
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3NASCAR and meth, goes together like...
- pr0phet491, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3You'd never see Ricky Bobby doing a thing like that.
- TheScogg, on 06/10/2009, -4/+7Let's see some triathlete sit in a hundred and ten degree car with a helmet and full body suit on while driving 180mph for four hours. Now, let's see them do it with 40 other cars without smashing into a wall.
And the yee-haw comment? Not everybody south of the Ohio River is some slack jawed, inbred idiot that resorts to Nascar because they're too stupid to figure out right turns. Nice try yankee doodle. - 64bitllama, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3Turn left, go straight, turn left, go straight, turn left, go straight.
Rally racing is infinitely more technical.
(Nascar is still fun to watch though) - libbb, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3Actually, its provigil, not meth.
- Chirp08, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3He said he was on a perscription drug that apparently mixed with something else causing the results. He is suing Nascar and they are counter-suing. Makes perfect sense, he didn't do anything wrong, Nascar thinks he's on meth because their drug testing program is brand new and has no ground rules (literally its case-by-case discretion) and probably isn't sophisticated enough to know the difference.
- KevinMalone, on 06/10/2009, -1/+4As opposed to all the other drugs in every other sport?
- collution, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3Marijuana yea, sure i'll take that; but a bunch of high Meth heads running around doing insane *****, i'll pass.
- cuoops, on 06/10/2009, -1/+3This article is crap. Here is the whole story if you're interested.
http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cup/news/stor ... - IffyG, on 06/10/2009, -0/+2As a researcher and scholar, I do believe that many mental disorders are caused by a fundamental change in neurochemisty.
- K4Lic0, on 06/10/2009, -3/+5They don't get paid to drive, they get paid for winning. There is a difference.
- drewba, on 06/10/2009, -1/+3Adderall is used to treat ADHD & Narcolepsy. Adderall is an amphetamine. Adderall with a prescription is legal. Bury for misleading title and super funny meth-head comments.
- Mrdiggers, on 06/10/2009, -1/+3There is a huge difference if he only tested positive for the drug and he was on the drug when he was racing. I highly doubt he was on the drug while racing. This is way different then the baseball players that were cheating with steroids. As long as he was sober when racing and not endangering anyone else I really don't care how he wants to harm his body.
