- WeirdEdsel, on 10/18/2007, -2/+47I've gone 31 hours without taking a ***** before.
- phycon, on 10/16/2007, -1/+38My favorite part is the outtakes where Dom Deluise is bitch slapped by Burt Reynolds.
- domeyerj, on 10/16/2007, -1/+35the statute of limitations is up, as in, he did this a year ago and you can't be prosecuted for speeding that you did that far back.
- JustinJS, on 10/24/2007, -7/+40That is ***** bad ass
- yeahbuddy, on 10/24/2007, -6/+38So how didn't he get a fricken' speeding ticket? Surely he passed 1 state trooper while crossing the US.
BTW, can't the police prosecute the driver after watching the video? (I remember a Ferrari driver who filmed his 140+ mph driving got a ticket once it surfaced on the web).
? - SpectralSounds, on 10/16/2007, -0/+28So, where is the documentary. Reading about stuff like this is all good and fine, but I want to see some footage.
- joeyjojo402, on 10/16/2007, -3/+29Once they are in the record books, they'll be wearing gold plated diapers.
- aigulf, on 10/16/2007, -0/+25My math: 2,791 miles (from Manhattan Car Club to Santa Monica Pier, according to Google Maps),
31.067 hours (31h, 4m)
89.8 mph **AVERAGE** With toll booths and traffic, I can't even imagine what their top speed must have been. - larryg2k3, on 10/16/2007, -0/+20He has many dedicated tools (scanners, etc) to help him locate bogeys and slow down to avoid tickets.
- Ducttape08, on 10/24/2007, -2/+22number of tickets?
- schmons, on 10/16/2007, -0/+19they did have to stop for gas so im sure that is a good time for a pit stop
- mflambert, on 10/17/2007, -1/+20You must realize that he spent $150k on this and that included a Cessna spotter plane. That's how he didn't get a speeding ticket. I would love to attempt this.
- probrian, on 10/16/2007, -0/+18i'm sure he was going the speed limit in his modified BMW with the speed limiter removed
- EarthernJar, on 10/16/2007, -3/+20This is why you buy a BMW... not because you need to go coast-to-coast in less than 1.5 days, but you could if you REALLY had to
- jdmcadam, on 10/16/2007, -0/+17It isn't. Thats why they had to wait for the statute of limitations to lapse before they released the documentary. It's still illegal, but its too long after the crime for the law to do anything.
- slashbot, on 10/24/2007, -11/+27No pit stop, no record
As far as I am concerned, diapers = cheating - Rbstr, on 10/16/2007, -1/+16Neither of those things are illegal.
- kgorczyn, on 10/16/2007, -1/+15Dugg for the e39 M5.
- Bridea, on 10/17/2007, -1/+15Total distance: 2,792 mi
Total time: 31 hours
Average speed: 90.06mph
Google Maps estimated trip time: 41 hours - mkrfctr, on 10/16/2007, -4/+18shut up you whiny bitch, why don't you go drive 60mph in the left lane some more
- scorchedearth, on 10/15/2007, -1/+15***** off Russian click fraud *****.
- schmons, on 10/16/2007, -1/+14http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBaOg-qsN2M
that really is bad ass - SpectralSounds, on 10/16/2007, -0/+12That isn't the same movie. That is from somebody else. This is about them doing it in 31 hours, 4 minutes. The 32:07 is entirely different.
- biohzrd, on 10/16/2007, -2/+14So...what was it? minimum or AVERAGE?
- litolist, on 10/16/2007, -0/+12There's a lot of desert in the southwest, so I'm sure he was able to use that to his advantage. One of the pics has him clocked at 157MPH!
- inactive, on 10/16/2007, -1/+12What if you receive a call on your cell phone letting you know if you drop below 100 MPH before hitting California a kitten will die?
- srodolff, on 10/16/2007, -1/+12FTA, statutes of limitation up.
- SpectralSounds, on 10/16/2007, -2/+12Bruce Dickinson baby, the ***** of the walk.
- affanjam, on 10/16/2007, -1/+10The Gumball 3000 video of Team Polizei being escorted by police through the city is amazing.
- kingvik, on 10/16/2007, -2/+11Just because I go fast doesn't mean I'm a jackass.
- picsectionpleez, on 10/16/2007, -0/+8I've gone 33 hours with no sex before, and i was eating ramen noodles
- schmons, on 10/15/2007, -0/+8the first sentence in the article clearly states: "The statutes of limitation are up..."
- dreadful, on 10/16/2007, -1/+8That car makes Kitt look like *****
- Rotzooi, on 10/16/2007, -1/+8zero. but 10,000's of thousands of dollars on a spotter plane.
- schmons, on 10/16/2007, -1/+8what fun is that?
- MrAction408, on 10/16/2007, -0/+7According to the distance from Google maps, the average speed for the entire trip is about 90mph
- Mononuclear, on 10/16/2007, -6/+13what gave it away? The part about the modified BMW with the speed limiter removed?
- pcp777, on 10/16/2007, -2/+8Did any of you watch the video on how the car was outfitted?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxRLyiBs3XA
Look at his "uniform", looks like they impersonated a police officer. I dig the red and blue strobes on the M5! - idc5, on 10/24/2007, -3/+9i wonder how many cases of red bull they went through.
- pardonmedoug, on 10/15/2007, -0/+6It's fairly obvious he was trying to communicate the idea that their average speed must have been at least 90mph (e.g. maybe they averaged 102, but at minimum, they must have at least averaged 90). There's nothing logically or semantically inconsistent there.
All of that said I wish people would just read more. As in books. - affanjam, on 10/16/2007, -0/+6Tools he uses in the car
http://www.gumball144.com/tech/ - bluesnowmonkey, on 10/16/2007, -2/+8No harm, no foul. 90 in a 55 isn't necessarily dangerous anyway. When you get mad about it and try to drive in such a way as to slow him down... then yeah, it gets dangerous.
- larryg2k3, on 10/16/2007, -1/+6Quite a feat, must've been pretty tiring!
- yomommanow, on 10/15/2007, -5/+10not bad.. minimun 90mph AVERAGE....
- LaRue05, on 10/16/2007, -0/+5Original poster makes me think he didn't check out the pictures. Those high tech Binoculars with a radar jammer/scanner on them were sweet!!
- vertinox, on 10/16/2007, -1/+6Give me a months worth of Ramen and I'll go for 4 weeks.
- picsectionpleez, on 10/16/2007, -0/+5Not true. Wearing anything resembling a police uniform = felony in some states
- FaithclubDotNet, on 10/16/2007, -0/+5He must have had The Bandit riding ahead of him to lure away all the cops.
- merreborn, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4That's not from the new 31:04 run discussed in TFA. It's older.
- merreborn, on 10/15/2007, -2/+6...or you could just get on a plane. It takes under 1/4 the time.
You'd have to come up with some pretty contrived circumstances to construct a situation in which you'd "need" to drive coast-to-coast in under 36 hours. -
