- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+55Quoted for truth. None of these morons would be able to withstand what these drivers do.
- Lixie, on 10/12/2007, -15/+55I know it's a slow news day on Digg when NASCAR makes the front page.
- RonManR, on 10/12/2007, -25/+52I dugg down all the redneck comments. It takes real driving skill to drive a NASCAR just ask juan montoya.
- Sneakernets, on 10/12/2007, -12/+36To all the people that posted "lol rednex";
Nascar is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
NASCAR has grown to become the second most popular professional sport,
Nascar is in Canada.
Nascar is in Mexico.
South Carolina has a Tech school just for becoming a NASCAR mechanic, which makes $70,000 a year starting.
Seriously. If you still call it redneck, That ain't bad!
People these days... :P - pdxa4, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23I will more than likely get dugg down for this comment, but here goes.
To everyone that thinks only poor white trash watches nascar, you have never been to a race. I was at the last race in Phoenix. I only went to the Nextel Cup race Saturday night and still spent over 700 bucks for my girlfriend an I, after the tickets, pit passes, hat and tshirt and a few $6 beers. There's a reason even the lower teams on the circuit are million dollar teams. I wouldn't call companies like Nextel, Home Depot, and TI DLP redneck companies. - Poovey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17And you wonder where the the " Liberal Elitism" comes from?
- SonicAD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Yeah, I think NASCAR is beyond the stereotype. For example, I am a NASCAR fan. Here are the things about me that do not match the NASCAR fan stereotype:
I am not a redneck.
I do not like beer.
I am from the north.
I do not believe in god.
I am a liberal (Obama '08!).
I am intelligent.
Of course I meet parts of the stereotype as well, because I am both white, and fat, but I think a lot of non racing fans have those characteristics as well, so I'm not too bothered.
Seriously though, some people don't like racing, and I get that, but lay off the people that do. I've been to a few races, and while there's a bunch of drunks there too, most of the people are pretty nice, and I don't know a better way to spend a weekend. Doesn't matter what you look like or what you believe in as long as you know how to have fun. - Rich7ejr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Nascar has 2 road courses with right turns. They're at Infineon Raceway on June 10th and Watkins Glen on August 12th. Clear your schedule.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watkins_Glen_International
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infineon_Raceway - SavageBlackCat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Yeah - the accidents they're fake. Cars sliding backwards, upside down on the roofs with the engine on fire while going across the finish line - that's just CGI.
- brian1625, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm still waiting for the WRC to come to the states.
But Chevy wouldn't have it cause they're not invited to the party. =P - KamikazeeDriver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7then again, it's lost it's roots, and has become too generic
- KamikazeeDriver, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8yes stewart, that's another reason why the old fans don't watch nascar anymore
- danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Tony Stewart is right. NASCAR may not be "fixed", but at the very least it is certainly somewhat staged. It has been ever since Dale Jr. won the same race that his dad died in exactly a year later. That made it painfully obvious.
- riffola, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Sadly some people wanted to turn Formula 1 into Nascar too, but better heads prevailed.
- Mactard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I made a couple of race fans very mad last year in New Hampshire,
I alluded that NASCAR was turning into the WWE.
Before the race they have meetings and say who will win. LOL
I recanted quickly and passed out Bud cans to keep the peace. - weezerrock86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm sure glad one of the sports top drivers has finally noticed this. I would say %50+ races last year ended with under the new Green/White/Checkered finish because there was a "debris" caution with 3laps to go.. hell its happened 3-4 times already this year its annoying and a waste of time they show a 2inch piece of plastic on the track to ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION they are running those yellows to let all the big name drivers get a chance to win (Hendrick Motorsports has one 5 of what 8 races ran this year?), its nice to see someone like Stewart to call NASCAR out on it.
- nemothewhale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This story has the most dugg down comments I have ever seen.
- xaviel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10NASCAR is just boring to watch.
- TheBSG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4NASCAR is creating the stupidest sport in the history of sportsmanship.
"Car of tomorrow" my ass. They've regulated the race so much that the only skill involved is pitting. - BigJuiceMan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10throw some right turns in and THEN I'll pay attention
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5If ALL Nascar fans are rednecks then ALL Diggers are geekboys.
- drsheets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I can't understand how long the fans are going to let NASCAR treat them like they're stupid before the fans finally turn on NASCAR," Stewart said.
Too late- I already have. - mousky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What, you mean some people wanted cars that were driven by people not technology?
- TheGuin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ dougmilbourne
When did you creep over the border? - rickmaria, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2tony's right....and it's sad when you get in trouble for being right...nascar should actually shut up about this...cuz tony's right.yes the races have been all down to the wire...but just let that happen naturally....there is too many people kissing nascar's butt..some are my favorite drivers....Mr rocket fuel in my tank....plz Micky...let your brother run the company and start making the races.
- pdxa4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I couldn't agree more. This is half the reason why Tony is one of my favorite drivers. He says what he feels, and doesn't give the canned answers that so many sports personalities give these days. Its refreshing to me anyway.
- pdxa4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not true, Tony said on his show on sirius tuesday he wasn't upset about finishing second. He was indeed happy that he moved up 1 spot in the points. He was mad about the BS debris cautions.
- drunkenwildmage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The same Here. Granted we are going to be going to one of the "old school" tracks in Darlington in a couple weeks, but I have been going more to the Local tracks in Flat Rock, and Toledo that are ran by ARCA. Alot better racing, and for tickets, food, and drink, I still spend less for both my wife and myself in one night then it costs for parking at some NASCAR racings.
- akashra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Not really news here. This was done in Australia in AUSCAR and NASCAR back when it used to exist which created far better racing for the fans. "What's that, Kim Jane is 3/4 lap ahead? Oh, is that water on the track? Better bring out the yellow flags."
- jcdinaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1my comments are in regards to this statement.
"He's a spoiled little brat," rival car owner Felix Sabates said. "NASCAR should suspend him - park him for the rest of year. Irresponsible comments like that affect the entire sport. If he was my driver, I would have fired him on the spot.
"If he wasn't driving a race car, he'd be pumping gas at a service station because his personality wouldn't get him hired anywhere else."
I cant believe this is an owner speaking out. Well Mr Sabates, You are an absolute bone head. It's no wonder you have always had loosing teams, you have a bad attitude. It is very easy to see Mr. Sabates make poor choices, Because if he were able to get Tony Stewart to drive for him it would be the best thing that ever happend to his team. Mr. Sabates might win for once. But that would not last long because as he stated he would fire him on the spot. Then he would be back in the same old looser seat he has always been in. It would appear to me that If Mr. Sabates would stop being a cry baby and change his attitude and way of thinking, He might have a championship team some day. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Oddly enough same here, it seems more interesting to me now then it has been in the past. I think it has to do with their being a lot more younger racers, who drive like jackasses, which in turn pisses other racers off, and creates lots of arguments and drama.
- JennyLA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I find it hard to take Tony seriously after all these years of whining (my opinion only).
"I was coming so fast, it was inevitable I was going to get around those guys, so NASCAR throws a debris caution ... I thought racing was about being better than the other guys."
I also find it hard to beleive that NASCAR as a body is trying to stop --Tony Stewart-- from winning races. Like they threw that call all for you, Tony? Isn't that a little conceited? The debris cautions may getting out of hand, but we've seen how a pebble can send these guys into tumultuous wrecks that threaten their physical well-being. I'm all about driver safety - so if a caution needs to be called, I'm not about to complain. Cautions are typical in motorsports, I'm sorry it was inconvenient for you, Tony.
And Waltrips idea to put debris on display is a pretty awesome idea. If NASCAR truly has nothing to hide, then so be it. - aten, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8no, any form of vehicular racing has a lot of advertisement... its not only nascar
- BellaItaliana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0All he wants is MEDIA ATTENTION!!!
- Etab, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Tony's just frustrated that his win was taken away. I'm a fan of neither Gordon nor Stewart, but it was clear Gordon had the best car of the weekend after being the fastest in practice, the pole sitter, and leading much of the race Saturday. Stewart was a poor representation of a driver and champion when he left the track and skipped the mandatory post-race press conference after finishing second. I understand Tony's frustration after losing 4-5 races he could have won this year, but accusing NASCAR of this is disappointing. The conspiracy theorists will go crazy with this...
- JeanInMontana, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8Tony Stewart has been pissed at NASCAR since they made him shape up and drive right.
- thebuggman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Don't get me started on NASCrap.
They have a complete monopoly on stock car racing, yet they haven't been slapped with any lawsuits like Microsoft.
ALL of it's drivers & owners are considered independent contractors & have no insurance or retirement (although I'm not crying for anyone that makes $50 million a year for driving a car).
What would happen to NASCrap if one day ALL of it's top stars decided to leave & form their own racing league?
No more Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, etc would mean instant death to NASCrap. Yeah, it's been around for 50+ years, but it ain't the same today as it was then... it ain't the same today as it was 5 years ago.
The France family needs to open it's eyes (and close their fat wallets) to see that they're raping the very fabric of what racing is about.... the fans. No fans = no money.
NASCrap has become WWE RAW. Everybody is just going through the motions until it's time to "go home".
Kyle Petty will still finish 30th or lower, Tony Stewart will be pissed off when he gets spun out, Jeff Gordon & Jimmie Johnson will smile & plug ALL of their sponsors in the post race interview, Dale Jr will STILL suck up to DEI (until he finally OWNS the company), and to add a new twist... now they're getting "ethnic drivers" to attract more viewers - while more talented drivers can't get a job.
What's on for next year.... a cage match at Madison Square Garden? - edm1950, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ah Tony's the new Ricky Rudd, NASCAR don't like me wah!
- BigJuiceMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1/me learned
- 40hands, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2NASCAR just sucks. Its fans may not be all rednecks/white trash but you have to admit that it's the majority. Just go listen to NASCAR Country! Crappy music and boring racing? YEEE HAAA!!!!
- crossmr, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3""I can't understand how long the fans are going to let NASCAR treat them like they're stupid before the fans finally turn on NASCAR,""
yeah... about that... - mal1964, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4saying you don't like beer is an automatic digg down, sorry you have some great points but i don't make the rules
- itechsolutions, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Tony is killing the sport, always complaining and crying. The races have been great, not all endings are in the fan favorites. Setting up a race is almost impossible to do.
I think its a great sport to watch! - skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1People ride cougars on the Kenya 600.
- toddsayshi, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8@dougmilbourne
You make being a dick look so easy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Hang on Baby Jesus, it's gona' get bumpy!
- KamikazeeDriver, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2I asked Ricki Bobby instead.
- knulpm, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1I have a feeling this story was dugg up to create drama
- JHattendorfII, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2hmm, my food stayed securely in my mouth.
- amillion3, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3700 bucks...in one night...for NASCAR?
