- zombiecarlin, on 09/29/2008, -10/+113Beautiful, seriously what an event, billions watched around the world except of course in the US. Where racing involves a couple of hillbilly's chasing each other around a circle in boxy rolling billboards.
- StigNordas, on 09/29/2008, -1/+54This series (Big Picture) is one of the best editorial features I've seen on the web. And its so freakin' simple. Just good photos, minimal captions. Bravo Boston!
- ISellDrugs, on 09/29/2008, -1/+47I can't believe that NASCAR is more popular that F1 racing in the states but with that said these pictures are absolutely stunning.
- wrenchone, on 09/30/2008, -0/+26Someone from Ferrari is out of a job today, guaranteed.
- frakkingtoaster, on 09/30/2008, -0/+23Dugg for being on one page
(and because of the beautiful pics.) - physco827, on 09/30/2008, -1/+22Representing the U.S. here, I would like to say ouch. I am from the U.S and I bit torrent every race, except this one I got to watch it live on speed, every 2 weeks and I love the sport. Nascar is a giant waste of time in my opinion. Just wanted to let everyone know there is still some home for F1 in America. Now all i need is for them to bring a grand prix back here. Indianapolis is fine, but this next season I have to drive all the way up to canada to watch. Go Lewis, i've been a fan of him since last year so I'm not a bandwagoner.
- crashbang, on 09/30/2008, -0/+18Somebody please tell me again why we don't have formula one racing in America? PLEASE!? F-1 kicks the ever loving carp out of NASCAR.
- s4g4n, on 09/29/2008, -0/+15Dugg for Alonso's excellent comeback.
- murlox, on 09/30/2008, -8/+21There are plenty of USian who enjoy watching F1 racing. Stop making stupid generalization.
- replikhant, on 09/30/2008, -0/+12That was good team work.
- Niubai, on 09/30/2008, -2/+13Too bad Ferrari screwed Massa again, I feel sorry for him. Two times in four or five races.
- Rubiksphere, on 09/30/2008, -0/+10I'm from the U.S. and I love F1, but come on man. NASCAR is covered on a major network every week, Formula 1 is on Fox 4 or 5 times a year. I don't blame people generalizing us, hopefully we catch so much ***** for NASCAR that we are shamed into destroying the "sport".
I wish our open wheel series were better, but sadly IRL has a boner growing for oval tracks. God our nation can be so damn lame. - GB570, on 09/29/2008, -0/+9Some of the overhead shots make the cars look like micro machines.
- zacbro, on 09/30/2008, -0/+9Those are some of the coolest photos I've ever seen, just awesome
- gingerboy, on 09/30/2008, -0/+8http://www.nytimes.com/packages/html/magazine/2007 ...
Same technique used here with a little commentary, its called tilt shift photography. :) - iridebmx, on 09/29/2008, -0/+8The air-born shot of Giancarlo = brilliant.
- aralls, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7the highlight of the season was the Raikkonen/Hamilton battle a few weeks ago
- firo85, on 09/29/2008, -0/+7That was a Great night for Ferrari! What a fiasco...
- gutterboy, on 09/30/2008, -1/+7Sucks that Ferrari blew this race. Oh well, should make for an exciting finish. This GP was visually stunning. People complain about all of the crazy aerodynamic elements on an F1 car but I think they are beautiful. F1 FTW.
- Yokohamalion, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6 Instant replay http://www.mininova.org/tor/1856416
- physco827, on 09/30/2008, -3/+8Only reason he won is because his teammate hit the wall.......
- physco827, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5I get speed at home, and not at school. Purdue doesn't think racing is very important i guess. So when I am at school I have to torrent to watch the races. Thank user SGBikes on the piratebay :)
- markman219, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Hey I live in the US and i watched it...
- crazlunatic, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Picture 11 and 23 are golden. It reminds us of big of a world we live in and my days playing lego xD
- JoaoPe, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Some pictures look like scale models.
- Warcloud, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Massa was given the green light to go. It was an error by someone in the crew to release him.
- mdoverkill, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4There are a lot more U.S. fans of Formula 1 than you realize. Guess which race in the championship would drew the largest crowd?
The 2000 U.S. Grand Prix, there was an estimated 225,000 people.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Grand_P ... - sh0rtstop00, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5***** *****, i fcking missed it, *****, hamilton got 3rd? damn!!
- wrenchone, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4As it stands right now it would be very hard for US fans to pick up F1 because really, who would they cheer for? The top teams are Italian, German, and French, and it's hard to get behind things you're not familiar with. F1 started in Europe, largely without Americans, and has decade to build up a fan base. The reverse is true for NASCAR. F1 and NASCAR are just what their respective areas grew up with. Though, if Ford (again) or Chevy championed a car, and made it known, you may see interest increase.
Doesn't help that the F1 governing body seems to harbor a dislike of America either. - poploserdigg, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Hamilton didn't win because:
1. F1 doesnt reward risktaking - when you're leading the championship by 1 point with 4 races to go, and youre main rival is in 14th place, it doesnt make sense to try and get the 2 extra points it would get by moving into second when...
2. Its so hard to overtake, especially on a street circuit with 23 turns in 3 miles and
3. The 2 guys ahead of have more incentive to stay in front of you, because those 10 and 8 points are hugely important for Renault and Williams. - blitzer, on 09/30/2008, -2/+6Billions?
- Rubiksphere, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4No offense, but Spa would be lame as hell at night. Street circuits could pull it off, but the city has to have a good skyline to do it.
- amercer, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4The cars looked absolutely beautiful under those lights and the backdrop of the city was stunning. As amazing as those photos are, they still don't do it justice. I would have given anything to be there!
- replikhant, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4The highlight of the season was the prostitute incident.
- collution, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3I would have paid to see this on my television set in SE USA... That looks marvelous, I wish I was there.
- HRF1, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Singapore was boring? Valencia was boring...
- frascellyboy273, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3that technique is called tilt-shift perspective lenses i believe
- physco827, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3That is crazy that you mentioned F-SAE. Yes I am a formula socitey of automotive engineer member, in fact i missed all out meetings this weekend because I had to come home. This is my first year in it though, im a sophmore, see you there this year.
- mac3687, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3And him losing that win was the low point. I think he can hold on though...
- aamer, on 09/30/2008, -2/+5Singapore is amazing.
- ToadPool, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Although F1 at night was a great spectacle, the layout of the track was lacking - passing on track seemed nearly impossible...
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3I think he's looking for release from some Italian made concrete shoes and the horse's head in his bed. Ferrari is a "family" business, you know.
- aviazn, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3I blame Tony George for a lot of the state of open wheel racing in this country, but not for losing the USGP--with what Bernie was charging it just didn't make any sense. Plus, he's got a MotoGP round now, which is even better.
Besides, the layout was pretty boring for F1 cars. I'd much rather see them on a proper circuit, like Road America or VIR--if any of them would be willing to pay to upgrade to F1 spec. Sadly, with Singapore seeming to signal the way forward for F1 in the far east, it looks like we're gonna see fewer and fewer old-school natural terrain road courses and more and more street circuits and Tilkedromes. Singapore is fantastic--but we don't need any more. - mirzmaster, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3The Big Picture? Consider it dugg! :)
- Niubai, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Perhaps you guys need a good driver fighting for the championship. Look at Brazil, for example, we never had a F1 team (just coopersucar team in the 70's, but it was a crappy one) but we had 3 world champion drivers and we always have good drivers fighting for the first places, that's why F1 is so incredible popular over here.
I think a good American driver fighting for the first places (to perhaps boost F1 popularity in the US) is the dream of Bernie Ecclestone .... - poploserdigg, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2I didnt know Bernie was on digg!
- wasanasan, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2I fell asleep and missed it aswell, but there is a replay on Speed on October 1 (Wednesday) 12:30PM ET, 09:30AM PT
- tHeSiD, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2lol...
