- cyberwiz01, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Do you know of any new cars, that are designed to be worked on by Joe Mechanic? Every car made in the past 10 years seems to be built to be not easy to work on yourself.

Once that thing has a few hundred thousand miles on it he is gonna have to pay someone ridiculous money for maintenance. I other hand can work on my Ford Model T with just a few hand tools. It requires about 300 hours of service for every 3 hours of operation but I am saving a boatload by not having to pay a mechanic.

- spectre_25gt, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10What the heck is the Mustang doing on there? Outdated piece of crap.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5But a lot of what's under the hood of today's cars is just plastic panels that are used to cover the engine parts. I mean, pop the hood of any new car, and chances are you won't see any throttle cable or probably even any wiring. I really don't think engine bays have gotten much more cramped than they were with Japanese cars in the '90s, and if you work on them for a little while, you'll see that they're not that bad. Today though, you've got 10 plastic pieces with fancy designs covering all the important stuff that you need to get to. It's a nuisance, but it only adds maybe 10 minutes of removing those to the work required.
- neodorian, on 10/10/2007, -5/+912 Best? For who? Somehow I doubt any of these will be best for me driving around town. Maybe it should have read "12 Coolest" or some such. Still a matter of opinion but a little more accurate.
- NukeIraq, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Glad to see that there is 1 American made car in there.
- sporb, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7people work on their own car to pinch pennies, people buying these cars shouldn't be worried about pinching pennies
- dogstylee, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7How about you shut the ***** up and realise that not everybody is a mechanic, nor even gives the slightest ***** about what's under the bonnet of their car. It drives, that's enough for most people.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5They'd be better if I could afford any of them without a second mortgage.
- caffeineboy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+56 (maybe 7 depending on the pricing of the GT-R) will be. Think before you speak in the future.
- caffeineboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Have you seen the 1-series hatch? It's HIDEOUS!
- DraconWolf, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8I think the Pontiac G8 is the best realistically attainable new car coming out for 08. A near 400hp 6.0L V8 based on the bulletproof and world known Aussie Holden Commodore with a classy but stylish interior a price at around $32,000? Where the hell do I sign up??
- asskicker32, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6No, its a GT*R, thats why. You obviously have never played gran turismo.
Seriously, though, performance of the GT*R is supposed to best that of a Porsche 997 Turbo. All that power, the handling, the AWD, the technology, the styling... Its a great car, especially if someone doesnt care for the styling of the corvette or really likes Nissan... - GorfTron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4That 911 looked like the best.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2$70k... I'll stick with a Z06 for that much money and horsepower.
- Datzneat, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Take the 350z off that list and put the camaro on there!
- EvilGeniusTodd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nissan GT-R: NA (but likely HORRID!!! twin turbo'd V6 500+HP)
Audi R8: 18/11.7 l/100 km(city/highway) or 13/20 Miles/gallon(US)
Audi S5: 12.8 l/100 km 18.3mpg
Ford Shelby GT500KR: 15.6/11 l/100km or 15/21 mpg
Infinity G37 Coupe: 10 l/100km or 23.5 mpg
Lexus IS-F: Carbon dioxide emissions of 290g/km or roughly double a Peugeot 307 and triple a Smart car
BMW M3: 14/10 l/100km or 16/24mpg
Maserati GranTurismo: 21/14 l/100km or 11/16mpg
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster: Same as the Maserati 21/14 l/100km or 11/16mpg
Nissan Nismo 350Z: 11.7/8.7 20/27 mpg
Porsche 911 GT2: 12.5 l/100 km or 22.6 mpg
Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series:15.3 l/100 km or 15.3 mpg
These numbers are disgusting. The idea that anyone would knowingly buy such a device with the reality of climate change staring us all in the face. - TheLoneHoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you can't work on your car yourself, maybe YOU'RE the retarded one. You gotta be kidding me... you can't change your own oil or plugs?! Are you ***** serious?! Can you tie your own shoes?
- Dezelon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Nissan GT-R - The car looks pretty cool, although techno japanese art isnt really my style. Its a fact pig, and its expensive. However it should put down some pretty good times. Nissan should have saved itself some money and introduced the R-34 into the US and made every ricer's wet dream come true. This car is supposedly really heavy at 3800 lb's, ugh, adding horsepower to make up for weight is counterintuitive.
Audi R8 - This thing looks really cool on my computer screen, but I was lucky to see it being tested about a year ago, and let me tell you it looks a lot like a crapping toad with gills. The horsepower is pretty low for the price. I could buy a new LS3 corvette and dust this silly car.
Audi S5 - I saw the regular A5 in Brussels over the summer and it has a nice shape. All I can say is that its nothing new; it has the lines of a aston/g35/gto/etc, which is nice to begin with but still not ground breaking. I guess it will be fast; but again, its nothing new.
GT500KR - The original is probably the best looking car of all time. This thing, is ugh, kinda nasty looking. It looks, um, fat. It weighs upwards of 3800lb's and is really no faster than the 03/04 model. Yeah they added 40hp, but you are paying for it when you just could have put a tune and exhaust on there and had a faster car. If this thing was 3300-3400 lbs, I would be all over it, but god damn does it weigh a lot.
G37 - It looks really nice, but the concept looked better. The interior is pretty standard, and the new motor is reaching the power levels of V8's a decade ago. Why did it have to gain 200lbs? Beyond it being a little piggy, this car looks fantastic and I look forward to driving one.
IS-F - It looks silly and the idea behind it is silly. At 380HP it could be a fun ride, but you could buy an older M5 and beat it up. Four doors and luxury is a good thing, I think just a little more power could have been nice. The exhaust is very different and should spawn a lot of copies.
M3 - More power more weight! Am I repeating myself? Go buy a 335I, and do intake/exhaust/tune and have a faster car for less money.
Maserati - Much better looking than the original. In fact, the original had a prelude ass, yes, it did, go google it and you will see. It also wasn't very fast and had a cheap interior. This is a very fresh design and I look forward to seeing it out on the road.
SLR Roadster - You took the top off, woohooo, blah.
Nismo 350Z - Fast and Furiouszs get out of my 350Z's. When will I get a 450Z?
GT2 - Sex on wheels just got better :)
CLK - 63 - Why did they drop the supercharger. Now I cant run low 11's all day long for 3 grand? Blah! Still a very sexy car and a hellofa N/A motor. I will take one in red. - brufleth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Those cars have a fun/price ratio that is too high for the list I guess.
- FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4**wipes drool from face
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I have zero trouble working on my Subarus. Very easy to work on.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I totally agree with AMCer. 100%. People are more interested in how their iPhones work or putting neon in their PC cases, than in saving themselves tons of money fixing their cars.
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just refinance yourself into one of those low cost, interest only mortages with a low introductory rate, then you can buy a fancy car.
- asskicker32, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3No EVO X or 2008 STi? No Elise 72D?
- dutchmcnubb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Please god, give me 2 things. The ability to stab someone in the face over the internet and a Porsche 911 G2.
- YSSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree to the G8, but we aren't getting the 400 BHP LS2 (yet). We're going to sit with the 260 BHP V6 and 362 BHP V8, and then maybe see the addition of the 400-430 BHP LS3 sometime next year.
But yes, a car that no matter what, should have been on that list. Same with the new VW Jetta TDI (that gets 60 MPG), Saturn Astra (finally a good small "American" car), and the Ford Flex (just because its so cool).
...God forbid "car guys" actually come up with a list instead of guy who thinks he knows about cars... - MasterJediDan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And you're going to say this to the car that won 24 hours of LeMans? Think again.
- asskicker32, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I worked on my 2002 WRX all the time. Its just a matter of removing all the plastic bits that you have to get out of the way... Once you get down to it, an Internal Combustion Engine is an Internal Combustion Engine. The new technology surrounding Hybrids, Direct injection turbo, Diesel and others make it more difficult...
- cityscape, on 08/01/2008, -2/+3The 1 series would be better if it came with a hatch. I would rather have an Audi A3 over an ugly 1 series any day.
- kalkin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i cannot believe porsche. every other car manufacturer is making bold new cars and all porsche do is release ANOTHER 911. un-*****-believable! how many times are they going to re-release that shape? do they have no designers? why am i so angry?
- ccheath, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4looks like a list of cars that only the richest in the world can afford
any of those available for $250/month? - cyberscape2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1He so did.
- trev0006, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1The Nissan GTR and Porsche GT2 are my favorites from that list.
http://www.dpccars.com/ - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i came here just to point that out, but i think it's because they're coming out in 2009, will try to save all my cash
- AMCer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No, it's called screw the customer.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1my boss has the maserati spyder and he pre-ordered a gran turismo, i must test drive it!!!!
- bossm4n, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3It has a Shelby badge on it. That's all you need to know.
- MasterJediDan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have Gran Turismo (4) and have played it through.
The GTR isn't going to come close to "besting" the performance of the 997 Turbo. Yeah right. Nissan isn't Porsche. "All that power" - again, Nissan isn't Porsche, they can't crank every last horsepower out of an engine. To be brief, Nissan is too late in the game. There are already too many competitors out there, like the Corvette Z06, the Dodge Viper, Audi R8, Porsche 911 (GT2, Turbo, Cayman, Carrera), Jaguar XKR, BMW M6, etc. To sum it up, the only great car that Nissan ever made was the Skyline. - mackdaddy187, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Holy ***** the new skyline is nice. A 3.8 Liter engine outputting 450 hp. My dream car.
- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4it's called economic specialization, calm the hell down
- sathias, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3The Audi R8 is gorgeous
- fibreoptix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2All those are great but the Stang look sick.
- mikeflynn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Agreed
- krets, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The rest of your nuts?
- benow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I know VW had to drop it's 2007 diesel line as the North American diesel wasn't up to EU spec. The diesel rollout is complete and the newer diesels will be coming out this year. Certainly won't have the selection of smaller diesels like in the EU, but atleast there's nothing stopping them bringing them out over here. VW has a 80mpg diesel sedan in testing, iirc.
