- gaurav4u99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21incredible is; that a rookie is winning races in style
- milo3600, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Sure, the Mclaren is the car to beat. But Alonso is in the same car. For a rookie to dominate a double world champion like that makes him more then "average great".
- gavincato, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12What a child alonso was, swerving to his pit wall to tell them they should have let him past lewis as if they should just give him a win rather than having him compete fairly and racing for it.
- scratt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Much as I am a confirmed Kimi fan, and feel yet again he made the wrong decision with timing in his career, I am very happy for Hamilton. What a nice chap he is to boot.
- CrimsonPhoenix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Quit with the media overanalyzing about any move alonso makes lately. Geez the cars need clean air through the radiators to cool them and getting out of the slipstream provides that. I am not a maclaren fan, on the contrary I am all for ferrari but seriously people need to quit with the the constant overspeculation and misquoting of many many of the drivers and team management.
- shralper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8It's superb because he's joined and surpassed his peers with grace and humility. He is definately in the title hunt, but he'll be rememberd this year for his conduct as a whole.
You deal with the pressure of billionaire owners, billionaire media interests and a culture of perfectionism at 22. - lysdexia, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10A great car means nothing without a driver with the skill and nerve to get the very best from it.
And Schumi was a cheat - I can't stand the man who thought it was ok to drive his competitors off the road - as he did to Damon Hill in Australia. I laughed gleefully when he tried it on Villenueve and failed! - Angostura, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7 gojeda - some of the telemetry, braking, throttle and a few other bits is overlaid on the standard TV coverage here in the UK, I presume aljuk has been paying close attention.
- gojeda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5"Next step is to take the Broadcast rights away from FOX For not broadcasting in full HD and delaying the airing of the race by nearly 5 hours."
Umm, not sure what manner of crack you are smoking, but the race was broadcast live here in Florida. - oolitic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5What epitomizes the fact that he may yet be a class act is his refusal to crack under pressure. In a particular incident in the race, Hamilton got bogged down in traffic and Alonso caught up with him and tried an awesome overtaking maneuver at the start-finish straight. Neck and neck with Alonso at 330km/h, he refused to back down, breaking at the very last possible moment, showing superb handling of the twitching car and all this without locking up his front tyres.
Alonso never caught up with him again. I'm a Ferrari fan, but can't help admiring this guy. - jayhawken, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Well, the broadcast was simply upscaled for the benefit of Fox HD viewers, rather than true HD. (Which was a bit of a gift in itself.) But I agree wholeheartedly - F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of everything and they can't cobble together an HD feed?
In regards to the race being tape delayed, it wasn't, nor was Canada. But Magny-Cours & Silverstone will be tape delayed, which absolutely sucks. However I'm taking solace in the fact that Fox is using the outstanding Speed broadcast team. I think if I had to listen to another full race of CBS' Derek Daly & Ralp Sheheen, I would have stabbed myself in the ears with an icepick. Daly's pit reports were bad enough this weekend. - Angostura, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6My one regret is that we can't see Hamilton and Schumacher racing each other. It would have been .... interesting.
- lihkin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Hamilton is a star in the making. He's already being compared to other sporting greats like Tiger Woods, who had a similar impact when he burst onto the golfing scene some time back.
What are the odds now for Hamilton deposing Alonso as the F1 Champion? Alonso should stop moaning and crying and concentrate on his own race.
Nice to see a motorsport category in digg! - Jugalator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3"He's already being compared to other sporting greats like Tiger Woods"
Because he's black too? I mean, what other relationship does this F1 driver have to do with golf. :-p
Why not compare him with other excellent drivers instead... - swampcat1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2CrimsonPhoenix, you said 'The real legends are known for their passes and huge comebacks from back in the pack'
Well, if you knew anything about Lewis Hamilton you would be aware that he put in a stunning drive in GP2 in Istanbul last year, dropping to 18th place after a spin he drove through the field to take 2nd. Had the race been another lap or two longer he would likely have taken the win. Remember also that in GP2 the cars are near-identical in performance, unlike in F1, making his fightback even more impressive. - Scagli3tti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Did anyone else go to Indy for the race? I was looking around for people wearing digg paraphernalia, but I came up empty.
- fquednau, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'd love to see that...coverage in Germany doesn't broadcast this data. Quite amazing, this Hamilton chap. Reminds me of the way that Sebastian Loeb rules the WRC.
- wisie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Awesome. I for one have grown interest in following Hamilton and I can imagine that F1 has picked up many similar new fans who are too fascinated by this incredible rookie.
- marm0t, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Next step is to take the Broadcast rights away from FOX For not broadcasting in full HD and delaying the airing of the race by nearly 5 hours.
- SplitZX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If you watched after the race Alonso's firesuit was black and Hamilton's was pure white. He was burning up himself, his brakes and his engine running up Hamiltons ass and had to get to clean air.
I was there, I saw the chunks of carbon and tire clag on his suit.
Don't believe everything the Italian and Spanish media say. - eddy144, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Good to see Mercedes McLaren tear it up.
Hamilton is certainly a brilliant driver, but I think we will see Alonso winning the championship with Hamilton a close second. - bioskope, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The Damon Hill fiasco had a good ending for Hill though, it got Schumi a suspension and next season was all Damon Hill. I always rooted for the guy who was Schumi's rival for the season.
Hill then Villenueve then Hakkinen( god he was a beast) and Coulthard to a lesser extent - MadceltUK, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree, I have always had a passing interest in F1, but I am now watching every race. Being from the UK I am really interested to see what this guy can do.
- djhworld, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well done Hamilton, a deserved victory, considering he had Alonso breathing down his neck throughout the race.
The best part was seeing Anthony Davidson overtake Jenson Button in the Honda 2006 car ahahaha. - Mearn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Tough *****, the world can't stop because you haven't watched something yet. The past few F1 races have wound up with articles on the front page a day or two after. If you don't want to know the results, go to your settings and remove the Motorsports category from your front page.
- Jugalator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Agreed, Hamilton is not just average great, he's doubleplusgood.
- drlha, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yes, the fact that he is mixed race/black, like Tiger Woods, means that those comparisons are being drawn.
- CrimsonPhoenix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"CrimsonPhoenix, you said 'The real legends are known for their passes and huge comebacks from back in the pack'

Yes, but that was GP2. F1 has the higher pool of talent and he has not shown a race from the back yet. Not saying that he won't be able to make a huge comeback when it happens, but we simply have not seen it occur yet. I have no doubts he should be able to doit. I just want to actually see it happen. And I do agree he is a great driver, and will do great things, but the comparisons to the legends of the sport will come with time. - gojeda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Actually the real legends are known for executing on the fundamentals such as traffic management and equipment management.
While Hamilton has quite a ways to go to be classified as a legend, he has shown an acute ability to manage traffic and equipment exceedingly well. He certainly composes himself well beyond his years. - CrimsonPhoenix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@gojeda Yes I completely agree I just was saying the simple passing and comebacks due to the claims of an amazing victory from the front (which it was a great victory, just nothing that has never been seen, afterall people rip on massa, who I am rooting for, for his wins that have come from pole). But yes, I fully agree that the legends display their prowess in all elements of the sport and that is what truly establishes them as a master of the sport.
- dohidied, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Really? My HD Fox channel displayed it in 4:3. I can't believe that Nascar has HD cameras everywhere on the track and in the cars and the technologically superior F1 can't get a couple new cameras.
- theillest1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I got dugg down for a compliment? Wow...
- gojeda, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1"@gojeda - why are you such a conclusion-leaping jerk? For all you know a member of my family might work in data acquisition at McLaren... "
Because I can spot a fake when I see it, or read it. You must think everyone is as stupid as you are. Unfortunately for you, this time around, your stupidity is being called out.
#1. If someone from your family worked for McLaren, you sure as hell would not see any telemetry - as that is stict company secret of any team in motorsports.
#2. Not only did you claim that you have access to McLaren telemetry, you claim to have access to the telemetery from other teams "to compare". In reality, you have neither. As a matter of fact, the only ones who can request (and I mean REQUEST) that kind of information is the FIA. But your lame ass comes on here and claims to have access to that information.
So while it is true that I may be a jerk, I have been called much worse by far better. You, on the other hand, are a fake. Not just a regular fake, but a know-nothing fake.
Buried for your arrogant ignorance. - felix21685, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Exiting to watch those guys in person finally. Scored some nice suite tickets. Unbelievable how the slow down in such a short amount of time.
It would have been interesting to watch hamilton and schumacher race at the same time. - taz757, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Yes. This is the most amazing part this season. The customer is beating up on the factory team. In Canada, Sato actually managed to finish 6th, snagging 4 points for Super Aguri. Quite impressive. I'm glad to see how well Super Aguri has improved since last season and aren't in the back any more, near the Spykers and Toro Rossos.
Rumor has it though that Honda has made 'drastic changes' to the RA107 for the French GP. I honestly think it's the aero that's keeping them from being competitive. We'll just have to wait and see. - st00dy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'm off to the British GP in a couple of weeks, thinking of taking a 100ft banner reading
LEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
That'll get me on TV dammit! - gojeda, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1"gojeda - some of the telemetry, braking, throttle and a few other bits is overlaid on the standard TV coverage here in the UK, I presume aljuk has been paying close attention."
That telemetery is NOT the same telemetry that the teams get to see. - pepote, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5Nah. Not really.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Speedy speed boy
- ruiacp, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3NELL NO!!! NO MORE!!! ENOUGH!!!
A dumb ass like Alonso deserves to lose and become humiliated.
He may be the king in spain but in the civilized world he is no more than an *****.
"I win because I am the best, but when I lose is because my team sucks"
"I don't need them, but they need me..."
Hell to you arrogant crying baby! - theillest1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Or perhaps it has something to do with his youth, skill, and tact?
- edebolt, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1a star is born.... he has the hot hand.
- theillest1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2He's a beast. What more can you say?
- bbg_, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0ace77 ever hear of a little thing called a DVR?
Stop spoiling things in your headline!
You just ruined my weekend my Monday night! - captaincoconut, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1racing is so dumb all you do is go in a circle
- INACROFT, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2He will be the next Schummi only better
- bigbadgoat, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Ohh man, ***** Michael Schumacher. Ever since he rammed villeneuve in 97 I have done nothing but hope that that prick lost every race, rooting for everyone besides him. Most over-rated driver ever in the sport, he just always happened to have one of the best cars, if the the best in the track, and he cut off and ran people off the road to victory. *****. He never deserved half those wins. Because of him I will always, always dislike Ferrari.
- scratt, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3He is a child, *but* he was actually veering off to clean off carbon fiber from his race suit, and cockpit, as well as try to find a cool line to run the car on.
- CrimsonPhoenix, on 10/11/2007, -13/+7He will NOT be the next schumi and definitely not better. I mean Michael Schumacher started in a car that was not the best car on the field and he still fought and quite often beat the front runners when he started. Hamilton starts in the fastest car on the field and starts from atleast 3rd in which all he has to do the majority of the time is drive a clean race from the front. The real legends are known for their passes and huge comebacks from back in the pack. Hamilton will never match Michael Schumacher. Not to say he isn't a great driver but he is the average great driver in a great car so it is expected that he do as well as he is.
