Solar Cars Race from Australia's Top to Bottom
reuters.com — Sun-powered-car enthusiasts from around the world raced into the Australia outback on Sunday at speeds nearing 100 kilometres-per-hour at the start of the World Solar Challenge. The only rule over the mostly straightaway course through Australia's "red centre" is that the custom-built vehicles run on nothing but the sun.

- linksus, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3" For obvious reasons, racing each day takes place only during daylight hours "
How is that obvious , I was thinking they may have battery's that charge during teh day to allow nightime driving. Whats the point of even showing these off if its only viable use is to drive in constant direct sunlight.
Grrr - beatryder, on 10/21/2007, -1/+2LOL, I read "Stolen cars race..."
http://baitcar.com - mbradbury, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't want to be driving one of those when a road train passes at 130Km/h. http://www.speedace.info/speedace_images/denis_bar ...

- doritos456, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1I like how it says that the cars were going so fast they were nearing 100km/hr. Why would anyone want to watch car racing when you can go faster on the highway yourself?
- yoda17, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1I tools part in this a long time ago.
The cars are powered by batteries and the cells are use to recharge the batteries. Just our motor alone and associated electronics was $25K. I don't know what it is now. The 'car' is just more than a bicycle with a frame to hold the cells, Google sunracer. This was our competition that won. I think shortly thereafter one of the drivers was killed.- echinatl, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1"I think shortly thereafter one of the drivers was killed."
Did you really need to include that?
