- Lust4Me, on 04/06/2009, -0/+65"Apparently, someone forgot to tell this guy that there are no guardrails in rally driving."
Actually you can see the small railing as he ploughs through it from the dash cam. Not much of a guard, but it was there. Am I wrong? - smashblu, on 04/06/2009, -0/+44It just shows how much difference a harness seatbelt, roll cage and helmet make. If that was any regular car/truck, he'd most likely be a goner.
- Disgod, on 04/06/2009, -0/+33I realize this is off topic a bit, but I miss the days when Speed (TV Channel) showed the World Rally Championship (WRC). WRC drivers are hands down some of the best drivers in the world. 100 mph on a 10 foot wide gravel road, drifting through corners. You have to be insane to do that.
- stubear, on 04/06/2009, -1/+26FTA: "Apparently, someone forgot to tell this guy that there are no guardrails in rally driving. After watching the video multiple times, I can't believe the actually survived."
Ironically it was at a point in the track that there were guardrails that he went over the edge. - jacobmorrison, on 04/06/2009, -0/+25Worth watching! Unbelivable.
- BlackOculus, on 04/06/2009, -0/+24Do a barrel roll!
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+23You are right. Problem is, he hit the embankment on the left which flipped him up and to the right, tumbling over the rail.
- jaredly, on 04/06/2009, -1/+23I don't understand why their was no explosion? One thing I have learned from TV and Movies is that a car driving off of a mountain ledge always == explosion.
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -2/+24Don't say that within earshot of a drunk redneck. To them, turning left for 2 hours is the most amazing athletic accomplishment in history.
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+18"Next to getting married."
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+17His insurance will probably void coverage because he was not 'on the road' when the damage took place.
- nahsrocketeer75, on 04/06/2009, -3/+17An all-time great "no-***** Shirlock" quote from the driver: "This was the biggest accident of my career."
- themadhatter444, on 04/06/2009, -0/+13Dugg for rally and fantastic engineering.
- magic6435, on 04/06/2009, -0/+11Maybe there are things about racing that i just dont understand but i was not surprised he lived because i always thought these cars were made with bad ass as strong as you can get roll cages. I'm not saying that it was not impressive but he had a 100times greater chance of living in that car than your normal everyday jeep or something and that would have been truly amazing.
- sandeepg, on 04/06/2009, -0/+10I'd probably have gotten the Rolled Over achievment in GTA for that.
- adderley, on 04/06/2009, -0/+10I remember playing the WRC game and intentionally flying over those ledges. I pressed select and was back on track. What a noob.
- AquaOSX, on 04/06/2009, -1/+10And this friends is why Nascar is an inferior sport.
- Nesh, on 04/06/2009, -2/+11Damn, it was on his birthday and his team wants to fire him after this. Poor Guy...
- sooperskip, on 04/06/2009, -0/+9I had NO idea that Toonces The Driving Cat was a Rally Car driver in Portugal. Amazing, the careers that performers have after their days at SNL.
- Bangaarang, on 04/06/2009, -0/+8Roll cage 4tw
- DustoMan, on 04/06/2009, -0/+8Look! A Flying Finn!
- 3leggedHorse, on 04/06/2009, -0/+8Rally drivers are totally ***** nuts.
- computershack, on 04/06/2009, -1/+9And F1 which stopped halfway through Malaysian GP this week because it was a bit damp and a bit dark.
F1 driver - I've lost a tiny bit of spoiler, I can't continue.
WRC...Fck it. Got no windows, lights, power steering, doors won't shut and there's not a straight panel on it but still got 3 wheels that go round so off we go...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iHkX78TGIs - emptyo, on 04/06/2009, -0/+7Someone should give his race engineer a medal.
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+6And comment? How comment is this comment a comment?
- rbross2005, on 04/06/2009, -2/+8"...As we rolled there was an incredible noise and the roll cage started to fold in around us...."
Am I thinking of a different motor sport or did this guy drive off of a cliff with a passenger in the car as well??? - inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+6roll cage for the win.
- Azathothh, on 04/06/2009, -0/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Co-driver
- computershack, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5Not many people drive down that road at 100MPH.....
- Gnar04, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5now to wait and see how Travis will outdo him.
- hascat, on 04/06/2009, -1/+6he'd need to bail out to survive
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -1/+6try that in a GM
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4instantrimshot dot com
- p014k, on 04/06/2009, -2/+6He must've pressed Z or R to do a barrel roll.
- greatmunizzle, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3I miss it too, even though it was played at like 1am if i remember
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3Ever had a shotgun 'accidentally' pointed your way?
When it comes down to rice, or buckshot..I'd rather be sprayed with rice. - punchinelli, on 04/12/2009, -0/+3I bet the worst part was hitting that damn tree at the end (the one that stopped them from rolling further). That thing was picking up speed quick down the mountain...
- leland1, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3The First Person Camera view reminds me of playing a Xbox360/PS3 racing game where you fly off the road, roll over, then restart at the location you left the track.
No, this is *not* PS3 MotorStorm 3D or Gran Turismo 5... but this *would* make a video game more realistic if they could simulate this.
Crash! Bang! Crash! Roll Roll Roll (through the brush, down a mountain for 35 seconds)... Game Over - inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3thats more of a mistake than an accident.
- Darkyuubi, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3Roll cage...ftw
Is the codriver ok btw? - maikeymao, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3hmm. more of a big hill than a mountain though, right? right...
- jstem1994, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3My dad used to do SCCA Pro Rallies when I was a kid in the 70s. He rolled the family car ('74 Opel Manta) & after that, it became the dedicated rally car, with roll cage, safety net, etc... The Datsun 710 became the grocery getter.
- Tallon29, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3The roll cage may prevent him from being crushed, but stiff roll cages mean much of the force exerted on the car is passed through to the driver's body. Many fatalities in accidents like this are brain or spinal cord related.
- p014k, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3Well, the rail might have saved him had he just tapped it, but he started to roll because he hit the small hill bank on the other side of the 'road'.
- eagles7977, on 04/06/2009, -1/+4how the hell did he live this video is wel worth watching. I still cant belive this
- NegativeDigg, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3You have to have some big cajones to be a rally driver. They are in the mountains on the edge of a cliff driving at 80-90mph with out thinking twice about it.
- MisterFurious, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3"Relax. Alright? My old man is a television repair man. Got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it."
- k3rfuffl3, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2More like "barrel rolled down the side of a mountain" rather than "fell off mountain"
- craigm01, on 04/07/2009, -0/+2In rally they have a navigator, that calls out the corners coming up.
They should have navigators in nascar.. easiest job ever.. "left, left, left, left...." - Ziyonex, on 04/07/2009, -0/+2That's insane. I can't believe they actually go that fast!
