"there aren't even any corners" - there are corners, 2, broken down into 4, but actually 5 if you count the tri-oval, where yes, they are turning. They would have to come off the gas, brake, and turn before getting off the gas if it weren't for the damn restrictor plate.
"just driving in a big circle" - go back to kindergarten. It's an oval, not a circle. Not only that, but it's a D-shaped oval.
"500 laps" - actually, the Daytona 500 is 500 miles. Not laps. Each lap is 2.5 miles. Do the math.

- ReDBuLLCuRT, on 02/07/2009, -1/+5A 2-car wreck in final practice for the Bud Shootout, an exhibition race. Both cars slid sideways in the first turn and only got cosmetic damage. Both cars have been fixed and are race-ready for tonight. I like NASCAR but this story isn't front page worthy.

Qualifying, the Bud shootout, the Gatorade Duels, all the endless practices for the aforementioned events, they're ALL broadcast on the SPEED channel or ESPN2. Ridiculous.
