- ixicoolaixi, on 11/19/2007, -5/+69It's as close to catching a rare pokemon as you can get.
- staxofmax, on 11/19/2007, -0/+32If you can afford a Veyron, the insurance cost is probably a non-issue.
- Jimbob200, on 11/19/2007, -19/+48FTA: "have always purchased Ralph's clothing on the grounds that he loves cars and lives in Colorado, same as me, and that he rose from virtually nothing to become so wealthy and famous. I will continue to do so in the future. But I will never look at that little Polo logo on my shirts the same way ever again."
What a loser. How did this get to the front page. - wjackson, on 11/19/2007, -3/+32I've never heard of a Ralph Lauren fanboy, much less did I know what he looked like...
- zspeed78, on 11/19/2007, -14/+42I didnt know you could be that gay and still have a gf.
- heartcoldfusion, on 11/19/2007, -5/+30Even he got the car up to 250 mph on a highway, he would still have to slow down for ***** driving 5 mph under the speed limit in the left lane.
- timmay, on 11/19/2007, -3/+18you guys are pretty lame..
Not many people can say they saw such a beautiful car. Its a work of art that I'm sure I will never get the chance to see it unless its in a museum. He has pride for automobiles and thats something i respect. the submiter has a passion for something and i think thats awesome
so submiter props to you! Don't let these guys affect your passion - Bahimiron, on 11/19/2007, -8/+22I donno.
If I was Ralph, I woulda smacked 'im. - davidrools, on 11/19/2007, -0/+13But for some reason he makes sure to qualify as a dealer so he doesn't have to pay taxes? That's kind of weak. Rich people ought not be exempt from paying into the things we all use, like roads and such.
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -4/+17The hater-aid is flowing in here. LOL
The more time time I spend on the Internet, the more I notice it's inhabitants are envious mama's boys. - theinept, on 11/19/2007, -3/+15Sure it's a rare car but this is the written equivalent of a blow job. Calm down!
- Shaman760, on 11/19/2007, -4/+15Ralph Lauren has a good nature. If it were anyone else, they might have called the cops saying someone was stalking them. :)
- TheSabre, on 11/19/2007, -0/+10Consindering that most road maintenance comes from fuel tax and not personal property tax, I think he pays his share into those things. Unless his Veyron runs on the souls of babies, of course. But if he purchases gas for it, he's paying for the roads.
PPT does pay usually pay for municipal services, so that is kinda sucky that he evades it... - zspeed78, on 11/19/2007, -5/+15It IS somewhat of a unique story.. chasing down a million dollar supercar.. especially when you seem to know so much about the owner.
- newdigger, on 11/19/2007, -2/+11Car enthusiasts. ***** off. ;)
- MothBoy, on 11/19/2007, -0/+9Hmmm. Just the thought of the publicity from Ralph Lauren smacking a dude wearing an RL polo shirt while his girlfriend watches in a Polo sweatshirt....
- macaddct1984, on 11/19/2007, -0/+7Considering its gas mileage, he's probably paying pretty well into the fuel tax:
"It also consumes more fuel than any other production car, using 40.4 L/100 km (5.82 mpg) in city driving and 24.1 L/100 km (10 mpg) in combined cycle. At full throttle, it uses more than 125 L/100 km (2.1 mpg), which would empty its 100 L (26.4 gallon) fuel tank in just 12.5 minutes." - inactive, on 11/19/2007, -1/+7"the man who made most of my clothes". haha, lame
- Jimbob200, on 11/19/2007, -2/+8No see, an interest would be a hobby. "I like collecting stamps", or "I like to play videogames". "I follow Ralph Lauren's life like a a 12 year old follows Hillary Duff" is like something out of The Devil Wears Prada.
- Kbennett, on 11/19/2007, -1/+7Caught sight of a Veyron about a month ago just outside of Chicago. I was happily driving along doing about 70 in a 55 and could see a black car streaking up behind me. It slides over to the left lane and cruises by at what have been about 90...easy. Black with the dual burgundy stripes down the center.Beautiful car.
- wrestlingnrj, on 11/19/2007, -0/+6Rule of thumb: "If you have to ask, you can't afford it"
- GliTCH82, on 11/19/2007, -2/+7Yeah, seriously, "thanks so much for bringing it out"? I mean, sure it's cool that he got to see it and take pictures, but it's not like Ralph was doing everybody a favor or something by driving his ***** car around.
- Dhalgren, on 11/19/2007, -2/+7I guess he left out the part about trying to stuff Ralph and the car into a tiny red and white ball?
- skyshock1, on 11/19/2007, -1/+6A.) I'm surprised his girlfriend didn't smack him first.
B.) I'm surprised he HAS a girlfriend in the first place. - fussbucket, on 11/19/2007, -7/+12Yeah, and I thought Apple fanboys were nuts...
- skyshock1, on 11/19/2007, -1/+6I'm calling *****. You KNOW you would drive a Veyron if you could afford one. Your post smacks of jealousy.
- cawpin, on 11/19/2007, -0/+4So, you live in Phoenix. Nobody can drive here. Here's a clue, people. The left lane is for PASSING. Get out of my way.
- staxofmax, on 11/19/2007, -5/+9If you don't care about the article or its contents, don't post. Douchebag.
- zspeed78, on 11/19/2007, -3/+7So YOURE the moron that spends his entire life driving 65, but sees nothing wrong with marijuana.
- itsbob, on 11/19/2007, -1/+5I would still love to drive one
- Zoojeff, on 11/20/2007, -1/+5OMG, I can't believe how much you guys are a bunch of ***** dorks. Don't you guys have a passion or something? Maybe cars are not your thing but calling him a retarded or idiot is really going to far. Seriously, you guys can wait 12 hours outside an apple store to get a ***** 800$ mobile phone and thats ok. But a guy driving one hour to see a 2 million dollars car and talk to his owner is a retarded? WTF Guys, you make me sick seriously.
Now digg me down and go back masturbate while looking at an ubuntu's logo - jus1haz2, on 11/19/2007, -5/+8Ya I would be really curios to know what insurance costs.
- cawpin, on 11/19/2007, -0/+3You can do the same thing. Go get a dealer license and start buying. It really isn't that hard.
- rotten777, on 11/19/2007, -0/+3No you're not and it isn't funny anymore. STOP!
- tahcoboy, on 11/19/2007, -0/+3rotflmao
- intense321, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3And how many have you spotted?
- AROZ, on 11/19/2007, -3/+6This way everyone can see what a "loser" he is.
- zspeed78, on 11/20/2007, -0/+2Its actually pretty hard, and not worth doing because the entire process is pretty costly. AND, the state resale tax board will audit you and see what youre doing. I think the above is either mis-information, or missing something. Maybe he bought them there because there is less sales tax than in New York. But I really dont think RL really was worried about the 7-8%, and risk the fines for being caught using cars for personal use with no intention of selling. Of course, if hes really cheap (why?), on THAT kind of car, it would be a savings. For us normal people, no.
- caffeineboy, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2Actually, this isn't the first time that I've heard of a story close to this. A few years back, a guy spotted a Porsche 959 on a rural road in upstate New York. Mind you, the 959 was never officially sold here in the United States, and it was known that only the ultra-wealthy (Bill Gates and Ralph Lauren for example) bothered to have them imported here. When spotting the 959, the guy caught up with him on his motorcycle in hopes of being able to talk with the owner what it was like. It turns out that it was Ralph Lauren, and he was just as friendly and open to briefly talk about the car. All in all, it sounds like he's a great guy to talk to (if you ever get the chance).
- zspeed78, on 11/20/2007, -0/+2While you do make more money than me, I dont see how your post really is that connected to your post, or mine. My post said that youre poor, and while 120k isnt poor, it isnt anywhere near the level of the above example, or what most people would consider enough money to do 'whatever you want'.. which is really what i meant.
I simply believe stating that money is an evil, is pretty much a not very well off persons excuse for why hes ok with making not as much as some. Its great you make 120k.
But dont you wish you made more? Because I bet if you were making 1million, youd be doing some amazing stuff to make that much. In reality making that much money legally is showing how WELL you do things. And then buying what you want, is a reward for your hard work. Whats wrong with letting others know you worked so hard and so well that youre now able to buy amazing things.
RL could argue that all you do is some silly programming, and are paid only a slightly above average programmers salary for it, you must barely be above average. You must not be helping that many people. RL drives an entire sector, employing thousands, paying millions to employees, who then again go and spend, and so forth.
Im glad the guy has his million dollar car. He earned it. - Pinkertinkle, on 11/19/2007, -3/+5Entirely pathetic.
- AROZ, on 11/19/2007, -1/+3He left out a lot of things.
- cawpin, on 11/19/2007, -2/+4First, you are an idiot. I'm a Chevy guy and this car isn't like anything Chevy makes. Second, good job on buying the schitty Lotus to try and impress people.
- Dhalgren, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2I don't see you're point. I speed plenty (usually average ~75 on the freeway). However I am on a motorcycle...
This is what I was referring to: "I slammed on my brakes and pulled into opposing traffic... I tagged 105mph before I caught a second glimpse of the vehicle. I made several daring two-lane passes and finally got directly behind the Veyron" - BOFH2, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2Not only.... Dude.
- bigteebo, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2You can't drive a super exotic sports car(especially a BV) and NOT expect to turn heads & get attention. The BV always looked like an alien space ship escape pod to me. A welcome change from the usual super exotic sports cars.
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -1/+3What a loser
- sat0shi, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2Contrary to popular belief/stereotype, not all rich people are douchebags. However, the people that like to judge someone before even speaking to them or seeing them often do turn out to be douchebags.
