- numb, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4I'm not going to argue about whether she was just thrown onto the ATV with no experience or not, because honestly I have no way to know for sure. I do know that she could have taken that terrain too fast on a kids ATV just like she did on the utility ATV in the video--and with the same results. Maybe I have a different perspective because I and my friends grew up riding all kinds of dirt bikes and ATV's. Either way, I'm thankful that my parents allowed me to learn to ride because those experiences have been some of the best in my life.

- Yazilliclick, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Not the same deal as throwing your young daughter on a vehicle she can't handle that's made for adults. I'm all for freedom and teaching kids stuff but that atv was obviously too large and too powerful for her skill level. The appropriate thing to do would be to either get her a smaller less powerful one at that age and skill level or to ride with her until she grows into it. Injuries are going to happen yes but there's no reason they should happen due to just stupid lazy parenting (albeit this was a fairly minor case all told)

and make sure that when you get home you put a red flag on their bikes so they wont get hit by cars..... .just beat up by the kids down the block
Seriously though, my first three wheeler did 65 mph (200x) and i was 12 so either they grow up to respect machines and power or they hurt themselves and never ride again. Either way kids should have fun and remember wounds heal - CFFL23, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2whoosh

- numb, on 08/21/2008, -2/+4It kinda comes with the territory. I started riding dirt bikes at 8. Broke an arm at 13. Broke a rib last spring at 36. Numerous scrapes and bruises over the years. It's been entirely worth it. Some people prefer to live an a safe world with padded edges. Other people like to ride mountain bikes, ATV's, BMX, skateboards, horses. Some people like skiing, hanggliding, skydiving, or playing football.
There is inherent danger in all of these things. Sometimes you have to weigh the risks against the sheer thrill of the sport. If I have one complaint about the video it's that she should have been wearing more gear, such as a chest protector, goggles, and long pants. But as the video shows, the helmet is most important. - dafragsta, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1I wish a camera would've been rolling for some of my childhood ATV misadventures. I still think I'm fortunate that my chest wasn't caved in when I flipped one backwards at the peak of a very steep hill and it came back and straddled me with the wheels on both sides.
