- OasisR123, on 04/06/2009, -6/+69That was the hardest week of his life?!
Man, some poeple had it easy. - borez, on 04/06/2009, -10/+36Aww poor Lewis, the first sign of failure in your ever privileged life and you feel like quitting. Not really the sign of a true World champion really, more like the traits of some kid who had an easy ride to the top in a car that was better than the competition's to be honest.
You ain't no Senna mate... stop whining and get over it. - splinter09, on 04/06/2009, -3/+21I can image how hard it was his week....... tell him if he want to swap places with me then he will see what is a hard week.
- YojanV, on 04/06/2009, -4/+22Sports stars are getting a little bit to cushioned, if you ask me. He sounds more like a whining premiership footballer than a driver. Get it together, Lewis.
- fasda, on 04/06/2009, -11/+23yeah I mean how stressful could it be to drive a car at high speeds around sharp corners while trying to pass people in a car that amounts to a engine with a fuel tank and the only thing in an accident that protects you head and neck is your helmet. Race car drivers will never know the stresses of sitting in a cubicle repeating mundane tasks every day.
- graystar, on 04/06/2009, -2/+14LH to P.Doll "You do love me for my personality right?"
P.Doll to LH "errr"
LH "Fine I'll stay in F1" - Larssonk22, on 04/06/2009, -3/+15Does he think he is Jesus & never told a lie before?? The guy drives around every week at almost 200mph, I would have thought he had some balls!
- 666300, on 04/06/2009, -1/+11Thats one of those rare sports where his pants could actually be on fire even if he was not necessarily lying.
- ethon, on 04/06/2009, -2/+11It really sucks for Hamiliton that the MP4-24 isn't that great of a car. He was a great GP1 driver, and obviously he is an excellent F1 driver. The DQ from last week was really shady. The rules for reliquishing a spot in a safety car situation like that aren't very clear/well known. If anything, they should have gave him a grid drop in the following week's race. I think the FIA just does not care too much for McClaren.
Oh well. Hopefully they'll get a real diffuser on the car pretty soon. - tecknical, on 04/06/2009, -0/+9McLaren is falling apart. So is Ferrari. I guess it's the age of the Button and Brawn now. and Branson.
The BBB is gonna murder F1 - inactive, on 04/06/2009, -2/+10When I first read your comment I thought "wow, there is no way anyone could say something so stupid." Then I had to read it again.
- pattherat, on 04/06/2009, -2/+10I call *****, this is merely posturing. He's basically trying to garner more sympathy to his cause...
"No Lewis pu-leaz don't quit! What would we ever do without you in F1?!" - ToRoE, on 04/06/2009, -1/+9He was quoted as wanting to quit after he crashed in China too. cry baby.
- Dropperbr, on 04/06/2009, -1/+8Good drivers don't need good car to win.
That's why Senna is a legend in F1 - timmeetheturtle, on 04/06/2009, -2/+7I think once they make a decision on the rear diffuser debacle, Ferrari and Mercedes will be back in points.
- Chinzon, on 04/06/2009, -1/+6You reckon you could do what he does?
- brim4brim, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5It isn't what he did in the car, it is what he said in the steward inquiry. He said he didn't receive an order from the team to let Trulli by. Trulli got dropped a place because of it.
Then they found out he was told to let him by and did and so he was disqualified. The reason this is so bad is he lied knowing that another driver would be punished and lose points and to gain points for himself.
He should not have let Trulli by behind the safety car as it was dangerous to overtake and he had no reason to let him by under safety car conditions. If you see the footage of him letting Trulli by, they pass a safety vehicle soon after and Trulli has to move swiftly to the other side of the track.
It was a dangerous thing to do. Hamilton should have waited until the team were certain it was the right thing to do. There was no rush to let Trulli by and he panicked then lied about it afterwards. - datacowboy, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5Aside from all the Hamilton news, I think so far this is the best F1 season in years. The field has entirely flipped. We've got Brawn, Toyota, and Red Bull running very well. And then the normal front runners (Ferrari, McClaren, BMW) are all struggling. I hope the diffuser issue is ruled legal, and then we can watch the big guys claw back into it after they make changes. Truly competitive across all teams as the FIA intended.

- borez, on 04/06/2009, -3/+8Did I mention money?
Oh and FTR: the kid had a privileged schooling and upbringing. it's not all of us who get a race spec kart at 6yrs old you know. - fotbr, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5I think the penalty was for lying to the race stewards, not for the pass. Otherwise it would have likely been a time penalty or a grid position penalty at Malaysia and maybe a token fine.
- mrbutter, on 04/06/2009, -1/+6rofl, you're missing the point.
He didn't get DQ'd for breaking the rules...or however you want to put it. He got DQ'd for lying.
He lied to get 3rd and have Trulli penalized. It's as simple as that. - adasha, on 04/06/2009, -2/+7we'll see him miss turning in 2 directions
/ducks - PaulMassive, on 04/06/2009, -1/+5What *****...He would never have quit. He has far too much money resting on his career
Also Massa should have won 08.
No doubt though - he is a very talented driver - MCA2142, on 04/06/2009, -9/+13give him a better car. better yet, a rear diffuser.
He'll be back swinging in the front row - MCA2142, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4Not just "he lied."
The McLaren team tried to implicate Toyota in rule-breaking. It's almost like sabotaging the other team. This has never happened in F1 history. And Lewis is the current champion. This behavior isn't very champion like.
Not every lie is the same. Some have stronger consequences than others. - mleh, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4"Hamilton’s father and manager, Anthony Hamilton, had contacted Max Mosley, president of the FIA, last Friday to express his anger that his son had been led by his McLaren team into telling lies in the aftermath of the race."
You know what? We've heard all this ***** before -- I was just following orders, I was just doing what they told me to do. Would Mr. Hamilton have us believe that his son, a world champion in F1, cannot think for himself? That his son cannot do the right thing even when his team is saying to do the wrong thing? If so, do we really need his son in any form of sport?
Two years ago, McLaren employees (Alonso, de la Rosa, others) lied about obtaining and using Ferrari data until they were given immunity. It was only then that the truth came out. Now McLaren employees are lying again.
McLaren needs to get its act together before the FIA (rightfully) tosses them out of F1 altogether. - dysonlu, on 04/06/2009, -2/+6Do you have reading comprehension problems or are you trying to spin this? What allegedly made the last week the hardest of his life were events that occurred outside the cockpit; it wasn't about driving the car.
- BurgGuy, on 04/07/2009, -0/+4Felipe should of won in 08. Yeah he can't drive for ***** in the rain, but he had some very bad luck last year. The fuel hose debacle with the high tech pit paddle showing green while the fuel hose was attached comes to mind. One thing's for sure, 09 is a whole new game and Ferrari and Mclaren are sucking wind right now.
- jerrycan, on 04/06/2009, -1/+5The week I spent trying new forms of viagara in a pilot study.....that was the hardest week of my life.
- fotbr, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4Yes, he does think he is Jesus. He's pretty obviously let the press attention from the last couple of years go to his head. Sure, he's a good driver, and when he doesn't just run away from the field he makes for some great racing. But his ego was getting a little too big for his helmet.
- pitdog, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3what a pussy he is
- mrbutter, on 04/06/2009, -1/+4Didn't read article but unless something new happened, Whitmarsh claims that this is simply a rumor and it's false.
http://www.itv-f1.com/news_article.aspx?id=45489 - mrbutter, on 04/06/2009, -2/+5Funny that you're getting dugg down because it's so true.
- trench47, on 04/06/2009, -9/+12Do it Lewis..... quitting ain't that hard and you've got a crappy car anyway.
- GoatMonkey2112, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3He would be fine if they cut back on the rules. It's like you need a damn lawyer to ride around the track with you now. How many investigations and appeals have we had this year now?
- CoD4, on 04/06/2009, -1/+4I don't even know why they made a nascar game, it's probably the just the first level of gran turismo
- disappointed, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3He didn't say it was the hardest week of his life. Some journo offered him those words, to which he is quoted as saying "Yeah, you could say that". Hardly emphatic.
- MacEnvy, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3I agree with you, but I am also encouraged to hear that he seems to have a conscience about it.
- Fun4Two, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3Drama Queen
- sean151, on 04/06/2009, -1/+3If by age you mean everything depends on the hearing coming up on the diffuser debate. If the diffusers stand then expect to see all but the RB4 switch to the higher downforce diffuser almost right away.
- AlKo, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2It could be he's and stand up guy and starting to see the seedy manipulative side of F1 and McLaren.
Maybe a precursor to using this as grounds to jump ship... either for ethical reasons or competitive reasons (winning team). Honestly, who wants do deal with being openly lied to at work?? ESPECIALLY in a dangerous sport like F1). - nevetssav, on 04/06/2009, -3/+5Tip: If he says apologetic things in the media, he gets a lesser penalty. This is pretty clearly not the true face of Hamilton.
- Chinzon, on 04/06/2009, -2/+4...awww, you want to talk about it?
- fotbr, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2Most likely, although it might not be right away. Wind tunnels and computers are great, but they're not 100% substitutes and the ban on testing during the season means it might take some fine tuning over a couple of races to get them into top form.
- computershack, on 04/06/2009, -2/+4F1 is filled with whiney *****.
WRC - ftw. - fasda, on 04/06/2009, -2/+4I mostly applied it to the actual driving due to this "He did not disagree that it had been the hardest week of his life. 'Yeah, you could say that,' Hamilton said. 'You all know why. All I did was give it my best shot today and the results were not terrible.' clearly he is talking about his performance during the race. You are right as well that much of the stress was based upon the accusations of lying but another component and I content majority was the less then stellar performance of the team at the race.
- ToRoE, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2all I have is the quote, no link...
and anyway, there are LuHam haters everywhere, as there are for Kimi and Alonso and Jenson, etc... That's racing.
Still doesn't change what he (ham) said.
2007: Hamilton after Chinese Grand Prix, reacting to a threat that he may be penalized for alleged erratic driving in Japan.
“There’s been some real strange situations this year where I’m made to look the bad person and, by the looks of it, this weekend I’ll probably be given a penalty.
“If this is the way it’s going to keep going, it’s probably not somewhere I really want to be.” - iamdan1, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2He should go talk to Vince Young about wanting to quit after a little trouble.
- Larssonk22, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2MacEnvy I imagine his father gave him a good spanking, and he has learnt his lesson and will never do it again. LOL
