- Brian48216, on 11/26/2007, -0/+47Top Gear has never tested the Bugatti Veyron on their test track, because bugatti won't let them.
I guess they won't let someone thrash the car around corners but are perfectly willing to let the hosts take the car up to 257mph or have it race a eurofighter typhoon. - keef06, on 11/26/2007, -0/+16"It's a typical American car", no it's not; it's neither typical or American.
- jjustin01, on 11/26/2007, -1/+14She's a beaut' clark
- bossm4n, on 11/26/2007, -0/+11It only needed a rear wing to give the back end some extra force at those ridiculous speeds. Koenigsegg added the spoiler and put back on the Top Gear track for a second go, which was quite impressive.
- knobidy, on 11/26/2007, -0/+11Umm, the Veyron is not an American car. Bugatti was originally an Italian company, but is now owned by Volkswagen. a German company. Nothing about the Veyron is American.
- Grummage, on 11/26/2007, -0/+7it hasnt beaten the veyron round the top gear test track as the veyron hasn't been round it yet. this car was reviewed by top gear mag about 3 or 4 months ago and the Koenigsegg supplied driver crashed that one into a field while out on public roads with the journalist in the car. sounds like an animal
- MeMongo, on 11/26/2007, -2/+9Notice in the rendering, Koenigsegg added the wing that The Stig asked for.
- wrenchone, on 11/26/2007, -1/+7Ok, so ethanol is bad now. So that leaves us with what?
Gas is bad because it comes from oil and is causing the evil global warming.
Hybrids are bad because they still use gas and their batteries destroy HUGE tracts of land in Canada.
Electrics are bad because they use electricity created by coal, which is bad, hydro, which drowns little bunnies, wind, which kills birds, nuclear, which turns everyone into mutants, or solar, which is just plain useless.
Hydrogen is bad because it takes that nasty electricity to produce and because it will add moisture to our air so we'll all drown.
Can't run on foot power because that would raise world food consumption and lead to everyone starving to death.
I guess that does just leave us with smug powered cars. - sugarbob, on 11/26/2007, -0/+5not to be a stickler for detail but bugatti is originally french
- gen2ux, on 11/26/2007, -1/+6I'd love to have my ass handed to me by this car.
- GMorgan, on 11/26/2007, -0/+5The problem is a super car will beat a muscle car in a straight line too. Comfortably.
- spectre_25gt, on 11/26/2007, -0/+4Yet another example of how the Veyron's W16 is completely unnecessary for the power it puts out. This thing is using a supercharged V8.
- shifty2, on 11/26/2007, -1/+4bio-fuel and bio-diesel are 2 different fuels.
- cawpin, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3Yeah, exactly. That's what the original muscle cars were. They were made for straight line performance. There isn't anything wrong with that. If you like corners you don't use a big block, ton-and-a-half lump of Detroit iron. They served their purpose well and still do. You have to appreciate them in context, like many things.
- jrowny, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3Also, the designer of the McLaren F1 (Gordon Murray) originally thought exactly what you did. But he took back that statement after driving the Veyron. Source: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id ...
- ksool, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3It's strange that Bugatti "won't let" Top Gear run the Veyron on their track, especially when Tiff Needell did a fantastic track piece with the Veyron on Fifth Gear.
- cowboy86, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3I wonder how fast the veyron would be on bio-fuel?
- Brian48216, on 11/26/2007, -4/+7you mean a car that corners so poorly you wonder why they even include a steering wheel?
- Alexx3k, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3Depends if your going to follow up and manufacture it...
- Andy.D, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3Old news, but proof that biofuel can deliver.
- Zachiatrist, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Buried as inaccurate for saying that TG has tested the Veyron round the track.
- Alexx3k, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2The veyron is the 'king' of supercars - VW lose money on it, i doubt they want to take the chance of another car worth maybe 1/4 as much beating it on the track
- charlesray, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2The new spoiler is much larger that the current option on the CCX, I would imagine to cope with the extra power.
- ChromaVita, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2DRAGONS ***** CARS.
- Rikushix, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Jesus, I've always loved this car. And BEFORE it started appearing on top ten lists of cars and whatnot. It's mine! Mine I tell you!
- Brian48216, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1ethanol has a higher compression ratio over most blends of gasoline, that's why they got more hp running off of ethanol. Otherwise the CCX only makes 900 some hp.
- warriorscot, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Did you happen to watch the second model one they had on top gear that they said had fixed most of the major problems.
- SolidEnder, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1What movie is that from? Drawing a complete blank here...
- piiscool, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2I hate to be a downer... but could someone explain why burning biofuel is more environmentally friendly?
I'd be nice to see a mileage rating as well.
kudos for the new tech though. - GMorgan, on 11/26/2007, -2/+3A muscle car won't even see a super car for very long in a race.
They tested the new Mustangs on Top Gear a few years back. Apparently the suspension is just one solid lump which Ford have designated 'Active Suspension', another term is ***** suspension. What you want is a car that can hit corners at speed, anything else is a waste of time. WRT the Mustang, they found it to be around the performance of a decent normal car in testing, hardly excites me. - qasabah, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1The Koenig-stig is a tame racing driver and despite being tame, it still has tiny little brain.
- jrowny, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2Biofuel might not be a long-term solution for everything, but considering the amount of wasted veggie grease (from fast foods etc), it can certainly help supliment the need for oil. Also diesel cars require fewer oil changes, last longer and also get better gas mileage.
- TwistyMcFister, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am right now
- warriorscot, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Apart from it being totally and utterly infeasible as a fuel without half the planet going hungry or cutting down most of our forests, not to mention the fact that it takes vast amount of fossil fuels to grow and transport the fuel when you look at the big picture the only really good thing you get from using it is good PR and a pretend happy feeling.
- CeeJayDK, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1I think you meant :
http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/lamborghini/0 ...
And you're right .. it's very stealthy .. It looks a bit like a cross between a regular Gallardo and KITT or maybe the new Batmobile from Batman begins. - naylor83, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Exactly. Now if only I could get my hands on the full res photos.
- trev0006, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1The only real raeson why the Koenigsegg beat the Bugatti is because it is much lighter than the Bugatti. Horsepower has no advantage in a twisty course. http://www.dpccars.com/ http://www.discountpartcenter.com/
- Victorface, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Bugatti was founded in France by an Italian, but now it's owned by Germans.
- naylor83, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1LOL. :)
- guinnessstout, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1How long till someone crashes this in the gumball?
- naylor83, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1The idea with "bio fuel" is that when you produce it (grow trees, or whatever) you absorb the carbon dioxide which will be let out when it is burned. So the amount of carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere, in the long run, is = 0.
However, ethanol is already being criticized for causing food prices to go up globally, and in the long run it could cause huge humanitarian problems. - MeMongo, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1It's not bio-diesel, it's bio-fuel. E85. Ethanol-Fuel. Veggie grease is bio-diesel
- Disgone, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1The original car was tested. This is the new one they will be retesting now that they added a wing to hold it to the pavement.
- naylor83, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Actually, according to Koenigsegg themselves, the wing didn't do anything for the faster lap. But they adjusted the chassis settings, and that did help.
See wikipedia. (Seems to be down right now.) - Davekcon, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1and its not faster than a formula one car either
- tarquell, on 11/26/2007, -11/+11biofuel wont solve *****...
plus the stig proved this car needed alot of work! - jjustin01, on 11/26/2007, -0/+0Christmas Vacation
- JDaleS, on 11/11/2008, -0/+0Good news!
