- joecolly, on 10/18/2009, -0/+36Great driving from Button, and congratulations to Brawn GP for taking the constructor's championship in their first season :)
- mabsark, on 10/18/2009, -2/+33Yet you enjoy watching cars go round an oval?
- Frixionburne, on 10/18/2009, -0/+27See, this is what happens when you take a good racing team and give them a car that won't explode.
lol, poor Honda. - fairy88, on 10/18/2009, -1/+21Congratulations Button and Brawn! Makes you proud to feel British for once
- borez, on 10/18/2009, -0/+19Redneck racing, saves them having remember more than two breaking points.
- borez, on 10/18/2009, -0/+8There's gonna be some partying going on in the Brawn and Button camp tonight.
Superb stuff. - 4rp4n3t, on 10/18/2009, -0/+8Your point being...?
- SpeedyG, on 10/18/2009, -0/+8Hey now, this is the one race a year that I don't have to get up at dawn or worse to watch live. And it was awesome.
We do exist. - Fazaman, on 10/18/2009, -0/+7Screw you and your spoiler headlines!
- XcentryK, on 10/18/2009, -0/+72010?!
- borez, on 10/18/2009, -1/+8His point being that nothing exists that is even remotely relevant or worthy of mention outside of the US.
/s - Enigma776, on 10/18/2009, -1/+8This season did not suck, there was something for everyone and not just cars who start on pole and then finish where they started. Even the worst teams seemed to have a chance at something this season. Bring on Abu Dhabi and the 2010 season.
- mickstephenson, on 10/18/2009, -1/+7It's just you mate, that's often the way with delusions.
- EMsean, on 10/18/2009, -1/+5Congrats, Jenson. He should be thanking Brawn for this, big time.
A note about my favorite driver:
If Kimi had had a first half of the season like the second, he'd be champ, I'd be willing to bet. I hope he gets a drive in F1 next year. - aychseven, on 10/18/2009, -1/+5wait... button and brawn won? what planet did i just wake up on? jesus, i need to get a television.
- wolfkeeper, on 10/19/2009, -1/+5You obviously haven't seen Hamilton's girlfriend... he's no nancy boy!
- Napiertt, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Fair play to the engineers and the double diffuser, but if the other teams all had it from the beginning, Button would not have been champion. Doubt he ever will be again. He have to put in another convincing season before I'm sold on him.
Good for him though. Hope he enjoys it. - Benisreallycool, on 10/18/2009, -0/+3Its been a long season, who would have thought? Congrats Jenson!!
- anj747, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3They will be proud, just like they were when Lewis won.
- naiku, on 10/19/2009, -1/+4can't wait for next season w/ massa and alonzo together. kimi & hamilton...brawn will probably still be in the mix, webber and vettel ?
it will be really exciting.
grats to jenson & brawn. would have liked to see barrichello but whatever. Great year for f1 - SooperSonic, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2Jenson was already a winner in my book, mainly because of the girlfriend he was able to land - model Jessica Michibata:
http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/media-waits-while-f1 ... - 4rp4n3t, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2Wow! Not only the best F1 driver in the world (this year), but also a time traveller. Props...
- karan1003, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2two brits in two years? they'll never let us forget it. :D
but besides the point, 14th to 5th is not a scenic drive. - Spetz, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2You're right about the fact that it is mainly due to Honda's money. Some of Brawn's money came into play when determining what upgrades they could afford for this season and what they had to devote to next years' car.
The double diffuser is fair play in my opinion. The Brawn, Toyota and Williams engineers were simply smarter than the rest. F1 is just as much about technology and engineering as it is about drivers.
Button certainly drove well, consistently, aggressively and fast all season and therefore deserves the title this year in my book. However, it is hard to put him in the same class as Massa, Hamilton, Raikkonen and Alonso. - disappointed, on 10/18/2009, -0/+2Thanks for ruining next year's season for me. Damn Guardian journos must've been down the collider.
- wolfkeeper, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but one of the top two restaurants in the world is in Britain; British food is incredibly eclectic.
- smacksaw, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Actually, you make it sound quite sordid.
- TheRipper, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Seriously, Button was lucky that the car was better than the competition at the beginning of the season.
Other teams started to improve their cars and catch up with Brawn. Button was just lucky to get a lot of points in the first 7 races.
I'm a bit sad of the last race. Webber did a good race ... it's second victory in the season, but it's like it never happened. Too much focus on the driver in the 'spot' for the title. Even Kubica had a good race and we barely see him on TV. I agree the title is important, but don't forget the other drivers.
Anyway, Congratulations ! I can't wait for next season - DoubleTap84, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1I have to admit i was waiting for him to fall on his face and Sebastian Vettell to make the amazing come from behind win... I was super impressed with RBR this year and I really hope that can continue like this next year.
- fairy88, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1British food is awesome, there's no way I'd ever complain about fish and chips and roast dinners, what I mean is that most the time we're first for things like teenage pregnancy etc... not for something good :P
- fraggle35, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1The Honda didn't explode, it was very reliable, the problem was, it was a bag of ***** in every other way
- nipplash, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1At least Jenson has a hot girlfreind, something Lewis can't claim.
- wolfkeeper, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1As I understand it, Brawn was in the meeting where the rule was being made, and actually argued *against* it on the grounds that double diffusers would be allowed by the new rule.
The others didn't think that that would be legal; and boy were they wrong!
Nothing wrong with being smarter. Compared to the other things that happen in Formula 1... and even not compared to them, it was clearly correct that they were ruled legal.
I think Brawn only won because they changed away from Honda engines though; the new engines gave them an extra 80 horsepower. - HMMaster, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1I hope so too...
- smacksaw, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Ross Brawn has the golden touch. Props to him and the people he surrounds himself with.
- nutteh, on 10/18/2009, -7/+7Meh, don't really feel like he deserved it..
Its being made it out that a independant team took on the big manfatures and came out on top, but when you weigh it up its not a massive feat.
Honda pumped hundards of millions into this car dropping the 2008 car early, and only bailed at the last minute.
Like it or not the whole "double defuser" thing left a sour taste in my mouth, it was an advantage that was ILLEGAL, but they used a loop hole to get around, when most teams abandoned plans to use it as it was expected that they would be banned for it.
And then as far as the Button himself went, sure he had a killer start but his driving in the 2nd half of the year was less then impressive, Rubans looked stronger.
I guess in the end, congratulation to him, I cant see see Brawn keeping such an advantage over the McLarens/Ferraris next year - smacksaw, on 10/19/2009, -2/+1What do you mean "proud to be British for once?"
Did you forget about British food? - Semutmer4h, on 10/25/2009, -2/+0http://www.twitter.com/semutmer4h
- smacksaw, on 10/19/2009, -4/+1If by "arrogant", you mean a "gigantic ***** bore", then yes - he is quite "arrogant"...
- brucealmighty, on 10/19/2009, -4/+1Just for the record, I'm not a big fan of races that consist of little more than continual left turns. I have been to dozens of races at road tracks and street courses...including F1 races at Watkins Glen and at Long Beach. I lost some interest when F1 moved to Indy and started driving in circles...and when they quit racing at all in the US I lost even more interest. My comments weren't directed at the sport itself so much as simply pointing out it is largely below the radar in the US these days. The relatively few Diggs and comments on this article alone speaks to the lack of interest and awareness of F1 in the US these days...which was my point.
- Contrarius, on 10/18/2009, -9/+4I wonder what Top Gear will have to say about this...
- pitdog, on 10/18/2009, -17/+12good thing it was Jensen and not that nancy boy Hamilton
- Semutmer4h, on 10/18/2009, -7/+0Formula 1 | Brilliant Button clinches title>> http://revtwt.com/origin_page.php?link=202838
- WestEast, on 10/18/2009, -11/+2Im glad Button won it, but this season showed Lewis in a better light, more gracious and admitting faults in interviews.
Button, as usual, even when winning overall, takes his strops, piss and moans, and even had the commentators telling him that he has to grow up..
Next season, new rules, McClaren, Ferrari et all are back to their usual form...Button will go back to blaming what ever team he chooses. - davidwmfc, on 10/18/2009, -18/+2Is it me or does Button seem even more arrogant than Hamilton does every time he wins?
Still a great achievement for British drivers though - iheartbakon, on 10/18/2009, -26/+1These comments will suck.
- brucealmighty, on 10/18/2009, -29/+2There are probably even fewer F1 fans in the US than there are soccer fans. Just sayin'....

What is Digg?
