- brianbb98, on 10/25/2007, -3/+42I cannot wait for Top Gear to rip it a new one.
- Chronological, on 10/25/2007, -6/+378.4l v10 and its producing 600hp? Thats such an inefficient engine :(
- kgorczyn, on 10/27/2007, -7/+31Meh. Gimme a Z06
- BoneStamp, on 10/25/2007, -1/+19Just because it is a Viper doesn't mean they have to make it look almost like the original Viper. Updating the styling needs a little bit more than a few new fins. The guy above said it best... "Yawn".
- RJNavarrete, on 10/25/2007, -1/+18Sexy.
That is, if you like having a Dodge Ram grille on your car... - RevToTheRedline, on 10/25/2007, -0/+17The Viper has gotten boring over the past 15 years, I used to think it was the baddest car back when I was young, it's really not that special, stick a big ass engine in a heavy car, big deal, still sucks on the track.
- starfisch, on 10/25/2007, -0/+15So it's new and even uglier?
- Shiftgood, on 11/07/2007, -9/+24yawn.
- chroko, on 10/25/2007, -3/+15Excuse me? It has 560 foot-pounds of torque, producing massive power at any engine speed. There are many ways to build an engine. Capacity / power is not a useful measurement outside of racing regulations.
And it really isn't that inefficient. Unlike the tiny little 2 liter chainsaw engines that you're probably thinking are more "efficient" because there's a V-TEC sticker on the trunk - large engines like this don't have to exert themselves much under normal driving conditions. They're quite happy at low RPMs, loping along on (relatively) little fuel.
This new Viper gets better gas mileage than the BMW M5. I guess by your reckoning, that means BMW haven't learned what engine efficiency is either. (And the BMW only makes 383 foot-pounds of torque). - dotnetwebdev, on 10/25/2007, -8/+19Hey, look! I have a small penis but a huge paycheck!
- chrisOrbit, on 10/25/2007, -1/+12***** hell why cant these designers get some originality. This almost looks like a corvette and not the cool sting ray corvette the lame slight re-hash of a re-hash they have out now. Yeah it has a big engine... the interior still looks worse than my $20k scion. It doesn't take that much to make it look good and be fast. "New designs" like this make me want to weep for what could be.
/rant - brjndr, on 10/25/2007, -0/+11Serious question here. I make good money. If I want to buy a nice car, why does everyone wrongly infer I am making up for something? I've always wanted a Porsche. If I worked hard and can afford one, why should it bother anyone if I buy it?
- RevToTheRedline, on 10/25/2007, -0/+10And that's exactly what I mean, tell me what has changed revolutionary with the Viper since it's introduction?
- elvenseven, on 10/25/2007, -4/+148.4l? Wow thats pathetic.
- endlessoul, on 10/25/2007, -2/+12Agreed. All I can see is Clarkson: "It's rubbish!"
- RevToTheRedline, on 10/28/2007, -5/+14Americans still haven't learned what engine efficiency is.
That's only 74hp per liter, pathetic. - DigitalN, on 10/25/2007, -2/+11I could barely afford gas in that thing, let alone the down payment.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/25/2007, -5/+13POS. You wonder why the American auto market is having such a tough time...
- jamcrackers, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8Because people are too lazy to work hard enough for one. That is why they resort to ridicule. Its pathetically hypocritical
- lunarvision, on 10/25/2007, -1/+9Yawn is right.
We've all seen this relatively unchanged, tired design for 10+ years now.
If this is the highest level of excitement that the domestics can muster, then someone's in trouble. - Jayaych, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8Wanna talk VERY mean and VERY green (yes in the butterflies sense), it's all about the Tesla Roadster. www.teslamotors.com
- dafragsta, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8Yeah, you certainly wouldn't be caught buying anything extravagant if you hit the pick six.
- dafragsta, on 10/25/2007, -0/+7Well, at 8.4L and 600HP, its definitely not going to be in Al Gore's garage... or is it?
- Bdog2g2, on 10/25/2007, -3/+10Agreed, looks like the ***** Geico gecko.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+7because the Z06 wont have that HORRID, HORRID grill that's on everything from a Neon to a Ram to, well, the Viper. UGH. What an ugly ***** grill!!!!!!
- marm0lade, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5You obv have no idea what you are talking about, what-so-ever. Every generation of the corvette has very significant changes, styling and mechanical wise, from the previous generation. The current gen has a new engine, altered suspension, and a new body, to name a few, from the previous gen. Look at the C4 and the C5 and then say "what changes have been made?' Then look at the C6 and ask yourself the same question. Idiot.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6My car is the same form factor as this (two seater roadster, RWD, mid engine) and it gets over 50mpg.
Let's see this thing try, hah! - rushiku, on 10/25/2007, -0/+4Sure are a lot of sour grapes in here...
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+5YES! I am not alone!!! Seriously? Name one Dodge car that that grill LOOKS GOOD ON!!!
THERE AREN'T ANY!!! Ugh!!! - RockStrongo1, on 10/25/2007, -2/+6Thanks, but I'll take the Skyline instead of that Avocodo.
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/arti ... - catalysis, on 10/25/2007, -0/+4You know you're a nerd when you start referring to your car's "form factor."
- marm0lade, on 10/25/2007, -0/+4You are right. IT'S THE ONLY THING!!!!!!!!!!!!
/sarcasm. - KMartSheriff, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3How can a high priced car have such a ***** looking interior?
- icexe, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3I wish the dash didn't look like it came out of a Chrysler minivan....
- NinjaJoey, on 10/25/2007, -1/+4That's the very first thing that came to mind.
- vulcanius, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3In the year 2056 when driving on the ground is a thing of antiquity, the Viper will still have a ***** plastic interior.
- TheKricket, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3i dont think it even needed to be said
- monsterofNone, on 10/25/2007, -1/+4i don't know. i think it's too subtle. i think it needs more styling. not enough louvres, notches and slots. it's way too retsrained. it needs more testosterone.
- _skin_, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2There is no replacement for displacement. But at reving to 7k is nothing. Why can japan produce cars with 4 cylinders that have 100 hp per liter and rev to 9.5 k?
- desmondregan, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2top gear is going to make fun of this, vipers are too slow
- J4k3, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2Yup. They're all jealous bitches who can't afford one. Well guess what?!? That Viper's gonna be mine! Hahaha...suckers!
- MatchStick, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2MSRP: 85k
- teh_techie, on 10/25/2007, -1/+3er... not so green...
- DigitalN, on 10/25/2007, -1/+3no one said he thought the corvette was any better.
- RevToTheRedline, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2It has an inline 4, not a V4, pretty little knowledge for someone that says it puts 350 to the wheels.
- Abomonog, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2Inefficient because it will only get 10 MPG, while rice grinders with the same HP ratings get 3 times that. Inefficient because even though the motor gives 600 HP, it will be retarded to 550 before it leaves the line. Inefficient because the damned thing weighs as much as a Ram2500 and steers like a semi.
What's sadder is that it will still be the fastest assembly line model on the planet. All the really good cars are hand built jobs. :( - wrenchone, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2Never seen the Top Gear review of the gen 2 'Vet have you?
Clarkson made fun of the warning labels and the rather poor engineering, and the proceeded to say how much he loved it. It's simple and brutal, and that's the magic of it. - inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2For about ten minutes until the batteries go dead.
- chaos7, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2i wouldn't buy it
- EricPeters, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2If by "mean" they meant "*****," I completely agree with them.
