- theplop, on 11/30/2007, -1/+14Bleh, i still like gasbuddy.com better. http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx
and why can't you link to the site and not a stupid blog?
http://gasprices.mapquest.com/index.jsp - n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 11/30/2007, -2/+12I usually find driving as far as the location is spends up most of the gas anyways.
- snowrider221, on 11/30/2007, -1/+6So how long until Gmaps snatches this feature too?
- ashukg, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3MSN had this for ages now
http://autos.msn.com/everyday/GasStations.aspx?m=1 ...
Live search mobile too has a pretty nifty mobile app that lets you find cheapest gas close to where you are. - Atlantics, on 11/30/2007, -2/+4Just something they did to stay relevant... because they're not.
- mattb5, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2Where does it pull the price data from? I don't see that asked or answered anywhere. If it's from GasBuddy.com I'll just go there. I don't need to see it on a map. I know where the gas stations are.
- viserov, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2Hopefully not long
- Godlike, on 11/30/2007, -2/+4skip the idiotic blogspam: http://gasprices.mapquest.com/index.jsp
- SpeedyG, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2It means that you're forbidden to go there. You can try, but it'll just end up like The Fog.
- viserov, on 11/30/2007, -1/+3It's all about demand.
- c0ldfusi0n, on 11/30/2007, -1/+3That's ironic, paradoxal and unfair. It's the US that invaded Iran and caused most of the gas price rise, yet sites like these are only available to Americans. ***** them, I say. Let the rest of the world find cheaper gas.
Bring on the thumbs down! - AuburnTigers, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2It's not THAT amazing...
- schnikies79, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2Yes, we know this. Everytime there is something about gas prices, someone has to quote the price in the UK.
Get back to me when you don't have $5 in taxes. - treeromeo, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Kinda surprised they didn't have it already.
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Bloody moaners. How do you think it feels when you live in a country where no matter how many maps you have or how many different places you look, the petrol price never drops below $6 per gallon?
Yeah, you have the right to complain then, but not when you're paying HALF what many other countries are. - johnroth, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Yes, the mapquest thing isn't new. It's new to mapquest, but gasbuddy has served many well for a long time. Theres not a single mention of it made in this "auto blog" post. You'd think a blog devoted towards cars would maybe think to mention a site aside from a government one that does a pretty good job of what this new Mapquest feature is offering.
- PiGuy, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1You already could with their new interactive content directory. There's a couple of apps listed that can show gas prices on a map:
http://maps.google.com/ig/directory?synd=mpl&pid=m ... - rkzda, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1google maps should of come out with the feature first.
- blackmage439, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1I feel bad for not trying this service out during its beta run. This is MUCH better than half-assed illinois/chicagogasprices.com. The author of the article complains about not seeing the site correctly in Firefox, but FYI, I see no problems. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.10 on Mac OS 10.5.1.
- 0crabby0, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1An empty gas can and a hose, is still the cheapest gas.
- JerodSlay, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Not as nifty as google maps with gasbuddy
(check the gasbuddy checkbox on the left)
http://maps.google.com/maps/mm?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=33 ... - inactive, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1Yes, but as no political party stands for the reduction in fuel duty, there isn't really much we can do about it.
- Leopards, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1You also use an Imperial Gallon which has 5 Quarts to the Gallon instead of 4 Quarts to the Gallon like the US, so subtract 20% and it is still really expensive!!
- Sub7, on 11/30/2007, -1/+2Gas prices in the UK are typically $9 per gallon.
- betona, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Dude, we've been setting ourselves up for these prices over the past 25 years. That $7 oil you used to like so much in the '80s was artificially low and permanently capped literally millions of oil & gas wells and also disbanded all alternate energy research because it was so uneconomical. Like millions of others, I used to live and work in the energy industry and had to leave when I couldn't make a living. Too bad, because the people who stayed at it are making a killing.
- testbenchdude, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1This looks pretty good, but you can't go by the lowest-to-highest prices listed in bold at the top. For instance in San Jose, it says lowest = $3.48 but when I mouse over the closest station to my zip code the result is $3.30... Also it would be nice if the map differentiated between the cash only price and credit price because some stations will only give the lowest price for cash only while others happen to only accept cash (Rotten Robbie on White, south of Alum Rock). At least here in Silicon Valley...
Upon further inspection it looks like the lowest-to-highest prices are only reflected from national chains like Shell and 76... interesting.
Hopefully the bugs will get ironed out soon. - dupeduperson, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1This map will go well with my commuting speed calculator. Input your fuel efficiency, the cost of gas, and how much you make an hour and it will calculate your optimal speed.

(as featured on the cartalk.com page) - zetsurin, on 11/30/2007, -1/+2Ahhh, America, the land where you call a liquid 'gas' and where you 'could care less' about something you couldn't care less about and the place where you get cheap prices compared to the rest of the globe yet still find room to complain.
- crossers, on 07/14/2008, -0/+0I think this article is little late!

- Compumyst, on 11/30/2007, -0/+0Google Maps has already had this for a while now. Just click on "My Maps" and check "Gas Prices from GasBuddy.com". Done.

- DeviantDragon, on 11/30/2007, -1/+1It'd be good if Mapquest was a reliable service that worked well, but all I've experienced from trying it out is that it seems to exclude certain gas stations like Costco gas as well as not automatically plotting the gas stations by price and only appearing to be plotted when arranged by distance.
- betona, on 11/30/2007, -1/+1Typical AOL. Other sites have had this for at least 5 years now.
- schnikies79, on 11/30/2007, -1/+1As I said above, get back to me when you aren't paying $5/gallon in taxes.
You're not paying a market rate by any means, so your price is artificially high as mandated by the government. - DHels13, on 12/05/2007, -0/+0a great feature that if accurate and more widely used will force gas stations to be more competitive with other local stations and force cheaper prices.
- marvin826, on 11/30/2007, -0/+0I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.10 on Windows 2000 (forced on me by my employer) and this site does not display correctly. Works on Internet Exploder though....too bad!
- DeathScytheHell, on 11/30/2007, -1/+1What does it mean when I get error 403 when I click on the cities surrounding me?
- TX972, on 12/01/2007, -0/+0Google/gasbuddy may show the locations of dozens of gas stations in my area, but this is the fatal drawback:
"Click on an individual pin for more details including the price, brand, address, and time posted. "
The great thing about the Mapquest map is that the gas price shows up on a mouse-over. No having to do dozens of clicks and then closing the pop-ups. Woth mapquest, the lowest price is found in seconds. It's far more efficient.
Google/gasbuddy has to play catch-up big time here! - mikeyhell, on 11/30/2007, -1/+1Not to be picky, but I checked(my area only) and the map was very inaccurate w/ 3 of the 5 locations it reported being off by more than 5 cents. But hey, it just launched so maybe i'll be back in a month or so after the kinks are worked out.
- TX972, on 11/30/2007, -1/+0The map is only as good as the timeliness of the data that is fed into it. If you're in an area where no one is supplying timely data, then you're left with "Garbage In, Garbage Out".
- drgold, on 11/30/2007, -1/+0Hard decisions... Hamel, MN and Clayton, LA are equally far away from me...
- tuce63, on 11/30/2007, -2/+1lowest gas price in the country is 2.41. It's amazing the disparity between that and some of the larger cities...
- agentmedia, on 11/30/2007, -1/+0So who uses this? The soccer mom who drives 3 miles out of her way to save 33 cents on gas and then cuts across town to buy a $4 cup of coffee?
- PaulLewis, on 11/30/2007, -2/+0The lowest in my zip code is $3.10, what's yours?
- Vennem, on 11/30/2007, -2/+0This can be very handy...except the gas prices (in my area at least) are 4 days old.....meaning I now have yet another reason to finish building that darn time machine...which definitely has to be a Delorean. Unless I build the Mr. Fusion first...so I won't need gas, plutonium, or road...wait does it have to fly? Damn, now I have build hover adapters to the time machine too...Maybe I can make a movie about this?
- ptwob311, on 11/30/2007, -3/+1Very useful information at our fingertips. The internet can help us map out our actaul course and cost of a trip.
- tpagrosk8, on 11/30/2007, -3/+1This has been up for a few months. This article is a little late.
At 2.40 being the lowest price in all of the US, it's definitely time to get a plug in hybrid (or a tesla roadster when i win the lottery) - honestfool84, on 11/30/2007, -4/+0this is a really nifty deal..
