- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33I'd settle for any pictures, won't load for me. Actually could someone just do an accurate ASCII rendition of the car so I get the general idea?
- gutterboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Actually it is very accurately titled. See there is this little racing series in the world called Formula One or F1. And McLaren actually named one of their cars after the sport, the McLaren F1 due to its incredible technology and 12 cylinder F1 based engine. However they only made that one year. McLaren however has been in Formula 1 for many years and releases a new car each year. They run in the continuing nomenclature of MP4-.. So, seeing as the MP4-22 Mclaren F1 car was just released, I don't think the headline could be titled any more accurately. You all just are ignorant of Formula 1, so stop marking the article as mislabeled.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17@spydirweb
saying the F1 implies this car:
http://www.allfastcars.com/mclarenf1b.shtml
not a car that isn't street legal.
the title should say something like
Here's the first new pictures of the McLaren's Formula 1 MP4-22 - beegary, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Gutterboy is right, I immediately new what the article was going to be about, because I knew what F1 was.
Secondly I know very little about Linux etc. so I don't assume every article about GIMP for example is actually about a gimp. Did that make sense?
No?
Ho hum - rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10http://www.mclaren.com/theteam/launch_images.php
- Heckler078, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Any hi-res pics? I'd like to make a desktop out of it
- brainwashed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually I'm thinking that if a poorly titled story gets this much attention for F1, then great!
- mygen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why do people digg things without knowing what it is?
If you thought it was a street-car, and dugg it, you're a tard.
Back on subject, Mclaren had their chances with Kimi behind the wheel, they couldn't give him reliability, Ferrari could. Expect the title to head back to Ferrari this year. - fjacky66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Alonso better hope they fixed the little engine KABLAMY! problem of previous models,or its going to be a long year for him.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I love to see F1 on digg! F1 series is a true innovator in technology and in my opinion has it's right full place on this site.
When it comes to MP4-22, I expect it to be better than last year's car, but not significantly better. No Adrian Newey, and a new driver lineup are not factors that could seriously push McLaren forward this year.
Ferrari with Kimi and Massa on board have the best chances this year.
Go Kimi! - stou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7anyone else ashamed after seeing the Indy Cars for this year... (compared to the F1 cars in the past... umm I don't know like 10 years)?
- gutterboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Wow. Mclaren certainly makes the best looking cars each year, especially the front wing. I just hope it can actually finish a race or two this year. Is it just me or does Alonso look out of place in McLaren overalls. Forza Schumi!... oh wait crap umm go Kimi!
- brisslexic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6the real question is what did fernando alonso do to his hair?
- TomRemixed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Cool car but Alonso is an ass.
- brainwashed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm looking forward to seeing what Lewis Hamilton can do after his superb season in GP2 last year.
As for championship - who knows. Can Fisi actually wring anything out of the Renault? Can Kovalinen meet up to his ROC hype? Can Massa translate his end of season performance into this year? Are Kimi/Alonso good enouh to drive different cars? Assuming of course McLaren can come up with the goods! - unununium272, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If it goes into a wall at 200+mph, the answer is yes... yes it will blend.
- stevius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it's in the sport->motorsport section for a reason....
alonso will be done in by this car just like kimi was last year. - Kjeserud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hah, we'll see. And yeah, Alonso really does look a little uncomfortable.
- unununium272, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Its the formula 1 race car. Get informed, man.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks...organic, almost. I can't imagine the amount of work put into aerodynamics testing for them to get the shape of the car to look like that.
- spydirweb, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10@ RealityCheque:
Technically yes, yes it is. It's the McLaren-Mercedes F1 car, F1 as in Formula 1. You know, that kind of racing that turns right, the pinnacle of technology in motorsport, etc, etc.
anyways, looks a lot like last year's model, which is sweet. To bad Kimi left them... wait, rock on for Kimi ;-P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Damn 2 minute edit limit...
I'm torn on who to root for this season. I've never really been a fan of Ferrari, Shcumey's kind of left a bad taste in my mouth over them, yet I really like Alonso and Massa. McLaren haven't seemed to be on form since Mika Häkkinen yet I'm a real big fan of Räikkönen... - pronto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@xtr3m
If you use the rss feed, the duggmirror doesn't work that way : - jimlau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's splitting hairs here, but F1 V10s (1995-2005) were not supercharged, and the V8s (2006+) aren't either. F1 engines have been regulated to be naturally aspirated since 1989.
On a side note, I would have loved to see those turbocharged 1.5L (~800bhp) engines during qualifying runs. - aloser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Duggmirror grabs the story URL from the referrer and automatically redirects you to the correct story.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Budget doesn't have the decisive role in the championship. Renault and Toyota are living examples.
Even the best drivers can't help if things are not working the way they should (just look at the 2005 season, Kimi was without merit, but his tool was inadequate).
Technically, McLaren (the name is McLaren, and not Mercedes... everybody knows Mercedes itself doesn't even produce the engines) has a slight chance of winning this year. Their package is simply not as suited for this year as Ferrari's package. New drivers with the combination of new tires and redundant keel design alone are a guarantee of the secondary position. - fartingbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You think that car is boring? F1 cars are in my (and many others) opinion the best designed cars on the planet, asthetically and technically. What were you expecting that would make that boring?
- atlex2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4just in case
http://www.duggmirror.com/ - zubin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In related news, Ferrari has announced the F2007 too.
Link to announcement: http://www.italiaspeed.com/2007/motorsport/f1/other/01/f2007_launch/f2007.html - aznbond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Props to the misleading title, I'm all for anything that gives F1 attention with the American audience. Look at how few diggs the Ferrari F2007 received. And the Ferrari is actually a new car.
FYI, for those who don't follow F1 a lot, this is pretty much their rebadged MP4-21 (2006 car). It was certainly the most gorgeous car on the grid. But This MP4-22 was to just show-off to the public; we should expect major aero changes since they just weren't fast enough in 2006. - Vinthian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow that's sick... don't crash :(.
- ferrarif1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Ferrari Will Win!
- hydrosnowman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2a little disappointed that cosworth will not be around, loved how their engines sounded
- hydrosnowman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that's what is going to make this season great. So many questions to answer. Heck, Honda and Toyota might even bite somebody in the ass (which I hope happens for the entertainment value)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FFS, stop bitching about this being inaccurate. Considering Ferrari and Toyota also revealed their F1 cars today, it's an acceptable digg title.
- ahughes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Here is some beautiful artwork of it...perfect for wallpaper if you want:

its the new weight saving do - brainwashed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sounds like it was just an oil leak - no biggy.
- Mearn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Excellent first run for the MP4-22! It lasted one lap before engine troubles took over.

I hope this isn't a foreshadowing of the season. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MP4-22 development timeline

PS: looks very generic - Phantastica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ferrari definitely looks good for this year. Massa did a really amazing job last year as a second driver, he probably outperformed his role best compared to any of the other drivers. Raikkonen, an amazing driver, really got screwed by the exploding McLaren's last year. I'm sure he'll do very well with the reliable Ferraris.
Nice haircut Alonso, it was about time! - Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah I was hoping it was the "road" car. One of the best cars ever made.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I second that.
I never liked Ferrari because of Scumacher's sleezy ways. But I'd kive a kidney to Kimi (who might even need it ;) - unununium272, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What an beautiful car. Lets see how it Alonso treats it :)
- brainwashed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Much easier to just to grab them from the source: http://www.mclaren.com
- sicc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*****, it's already down
>=T - Ocelot13, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4um, do you realize that hasnt been funny for quite some time now? its really quite stupid
- teknubic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you must cut ze hair if you to be driving for ze germans
- Mearn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At least Kimi made it out before this one's engine went boom too.
- HRF1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1McLaren's are always sexy and beautiful but I'm betting they are going to be unreliable just like the last few years.
