- serif69, on 05/22/2009, -3/+34This is ridiculous. Nobody wants Ferrari, or any team for that matter, to leave the sport. But Bernie has to realize that imposing rules changes year after year is tiresome and costly to both the teams and the sport itself. I don't think anyone approves of the childish behavior of the teams, but we certainly understand. The fans are sick of the drama, but Bernie and Max seem to revel in it.
- Khast, on 05/22/2009, -1/+27Actually, I agree with Ferrari's side. The terms had changed almost to an unreasonable level. Racing isn't about being fair on the technological standpoint. IF a company wishes to invest money in their vehicles, that is their choice. If your company CAN'T invest, then they have no right to complain....they should get better sponsors.
Though... I would like to see a prestigious equivalent of the F1 race, which the only rule is all vehicles must be electric vehicles. (Not hybrid, or gas) THEN we will see some major improvements to the electric vehicles rolling off the showroom in pretty short order. - inactive, on 05/22/2009, -1/+22Bernie & Max need to go for Formula 1 to survive.
- 2Pharcyded, on 05/22/2009, -5/+20just like in soccer, italians are always the first ones to whine
- MattDell, on 05/22/2009, -0/+9Dugg for using the word 'pram'
- cosworth99, on 05/22/2009, -2/+11It's high time that Max Mosley is recognised for destroying or at least bringing into ill repute, F1 as a sport.
The Emperor status he's garnered from internal supporters makes this almost impossible. Max must go. All he does is govern the FIA who in turn governs the rules. His rules suck and blow. - pstroll, on 05/22/2009, -2/+10If Enzo were still alive he would make Bernie an offer he can't refuse
- ethon, on 05/22/2009, -0/+8Everyone is complaining about it, Ferrari is just the most vocal.
If they go through with the new scoring system, I'm going to be livid. - cosworth99, on 05/22/2009, -0/+6No. This is about making F1 a two tier system to cut costs, not whining. Instead of allowing teams that abide by the cap to get special treatment (higher rev limits etc) why not just leave it alone?
A team that spends too much and doesn;t win spends less the next year. Nature selection is the best course of action for F1. It's waht makes F1, well.... F1 - AliasLess, on 05/22/2009, -1/+6That's a little like blackmail.
Then again, they did sign a contract. - Napiertt, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5I don't know how that sick nazi bastard is still in charge of anything
- MattDell, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5Well he already killed the WRC.
- nobody98, on 05/22/2009, -2/+7There's no way ferrari are going to leave. Pointless drama
- WillFight4Beer, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4Unfortunately Digg is behind the news cycle on this one, Ferrari may be the posterchild for the anti FIA movement but all the teams are more or less united on the issues. It's not a question of whether Max and Bernie want Ferrari back but whether they want a championship with any teams from this year in it.
Good to see the teams getting together on something, if the mudders are united there's too many of them. - tgc1, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4Yes, but in a way that is the sole purpose of the sport. To evolve and create something new. Without pushing the envelope we are stuck with the equivalent of Nascar. Which isn't to ***** on Nascar, but for god sakes man, they are still using technology from the 70's in those cars.
- Joodtimes, on 05/23/2009, -1/+5I'm surprised at how much Ferrari is taking the poor little princess role in this. They've been around since Formula 1 started...long before Max and Bernie. Ferrari should be fighting tooth and nail for an amicable solution rather than threatening to abandon the sport they helped to build.
I don't agree with a lot of the proposed rule changes but I agree there needs to be some type of cost control. Otherwise, it's only rule changes that can bring the field closer together. If you look at last years Constructor's standings, they practically line up according to team budget. - mizike, on 05/22/2009, -2/+6Many sports have salary caps. Ferrari is just used to spending it's way to victory year after year. I say level the playing field and see what happens.
- mypetridish, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5pram?
- tgc1, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5Maybe they need more grapes? They look a little sour.
- Khast, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5Thing is, what are they really spending their money on? Improving the engines? Improving aero dynamics? Improving handling? Improving drive train? Paying for a better driver?
Yeah, they can throw millions at their vehicles, but it isn't like there is a whole lot they can improve. Any improvement they make under the hood, or mechanically eventually makes it's way to automakers. I think that those that can't invest or choose not to invest are a bunch of whiners. Racing has never been about fairness. (Even when vehicle racing started....Rat Rods comes to mind...most participants spent a lot of money on their vehicles...most vehicles looked flashy and fast. Rat Rods looked ugly, but the participants invested 100% of the money to what actually mattered when racing,...rather than appearance, they had the fastest and most durable vehicles.) - mypetridish, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3i like this season championship. i dont know how button managed to grab 3 wins but he did. if FIA is steering the next season to a more unpredictable race outcome, im all for it!
- Noodleson, on 05/22/2009, -1/+4I used to love Formula One, but somewhere along the way it went from racing series to reality TV show. Every week there's some new pointless drama about a team cheating, or dropping out, or new radical rule changes. Its not about racing anymore, its just a bunch of rich idiots bitching about things I don't care about.
The sport is more popular than ever though, so maybe I just don't get it... - ViscidGobs, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3If Ferrari garners car sales from them being at the top of the constructors pole and if they perceive that the rules harm that sales figure then they should question participation in F1. Those cars cost a fortune to test and maintain. The whole concept of standardization seems to be counter intuitive to the racing world. They might as well race all the same go kart. The same ubiquity has happened in certain sports and its boring.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -0/+3Max Mosley must DIE.
- streetmagix, on 05/22/2009, -7/+10Just Ferrari throwing there toys out of the pram. Nothing to see here, move along.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -0/+2Bernie is ok its max who is the bigger *****. I hope that nazi ***** kicks the bucket soon.
- mypetridish, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2FIA intends on diverting the money used on "matured" technology like the engines into something that desires more development, just like the brake energy regeneration and what not. the money that goes into ferrari comes from the advertisers, if a budget limit can be imposed there is a higher chance that technological breakthroughs will be achieved if research is done concurrently by multiple teams other than just a few - car manufacturer teams, im looking at you.
- jammyfred, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2He managed it by having a car much much faster than any other car on the track. The car has a rear diffuser which most of the other teams thought was illegal. It makes the car much faster and has since been ruled legal and race allowed, so they have stomped everyone.
- CarsSpec, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1I hope Ferrari will not quit from f1
http://carsspecification.blogspot.com/2009/08/ferr ... - wetoddid, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1And how many people would watch an F1 season where after the 1st race you knew the same 2 cars were going to win by 30 - 60 seconds on the nearest competitor for the rest of the season except for driver retardation or mechanical failure?
Don't get me wrong, I think Ecclestone and Moseley are money grubbing bastards that aren't thinking of anything but their television deals and money-making ventures tied to F1. But a season dominated by the team who dumped 400M into racing to buy the championship is worse than watching F1 cars at Indy on the infield course. - WindReaver, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1Drive at no greater speed than 10mph.
- Larssonk22, on 05/22/2009, -1/+2its all about hand signals - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZRYKRNhNew&fmt ...
- Larssonk22, on 05/22/2009, -3/+4Ferrari would not be complaining if they were leading right now.
- Jimbo51, on 05/22/2009, -1/+2Bernie made F1 what it is today, he's just a stubborn git sometimes.
- streetmagix, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1@mypetridish you may know them a 'baby strollers' or a "baby carriage"
- ViscidGobs, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1You clearly haven't seen the Chileans play.
- Larssonk22, on 05/22/2009, -1/+2oh jeez no, even that idea made me facepalm!
- RomulusX86, on 05/22/2009, -1/+1You clearly have not been keeping track of the 2009 season.
- jammyfred, on 05/22/2009, -1/+1At least they get there comeuppance, all the repercussions for the recent Italian matchfixing comes to mind, also Zidane's pwning of Materazzi in the world cup final.
- masykur, on 07/04/2009, -0/+0yeah ferrari go ahead...
- HGCreative, on 05/28/2009, -0/+0Theres no doubt about it that the rule changes over the last few years have only ruined F1 from the magnificent sport it used to be. Before it was legendary, now it's bland and barely a sport.
- Azzurri49, on 05/22/2009, -1/+1Typical stupid comments about Ferrari, Ferrari kicking everyones ass was bad , but Brawn doing the same this this year is good, bunch of hypocrites!!! Ferrari will take over half the fans of F1 with it!!!!! NO FERRARI NO PARTY!!!
- tpmidd, on 05/22/2009, -7/+5Why are people commenting on this who know nothing about Ferrari, Formula 1, or Racing? STFU.
- pacman122, on 05/22/2009, -6/+2Shut up you hoosier.
- LeMAD, on 05/22/2009, -8/+2F1 is dead, partly because of Ferrari, partly because of Ecclestone.
- thelik, on 05/22/2009, -12/+6***** ferrari
- MattDell, on 05/22/2009, -11/+2Formula 1 is just fine without Ferrari.
That being said, the constant rule changes in F1 have never made sense with regards to cutting costs. If you change the rules every year, doesn't that force you to spend money to R&D new parts that will meet the new rules?
