- MMaster23, on 08/04/2008, -0/+23Poor Massa :( I saw it happen and I feel bad for him...
- Majhem, on 08/04/2008, -0/+19Michael Palin would inform you that in Motorsport these days, the only way to finish first, is to be Finnish.
Then he would sing a quaint song about Finland's natural beauties.
Spoiler below:
Seriously though, Massa's move at the first corner was awesome to watch, pity he didn't make it the full distance, Well done to Kimi for his 3rd stint and that burst of speed despite an excursion around the 2nd pitstop, enabling him to leapfrog a slower Alonso.
I would give drive of the day to Timo Glock in the Toyota, well done son.
Bring on the rest of the season! - VivekSingh, on 08/04/2008, -5/+20A Formula 1 story on Digg's frontpage? That's certainly uncommon! But either way, go McLaren and Kovalainen!
- jktress, on 08/04/2008, -0/+12How about Timo Glock? Incredible race on his part. Can't wait to see how the rest of the season plays out...
- MisterWonderful, on 08/04/2008, -0/+11I caught the last few laps of the race, (haven't watched the Tivo yet) but did catch qualifying. Poor friggin Massa though...he was demoralized at the press conference, and rightfully so. F1 can be a cruel sport.
I think what stuck out most for me was Hamilton's attitude in Q1 and Q2. He just goes out, does his quick lap, and boom, back in the garage for a piss. The confidence with this kid is getting really scary, and that's a bad thing for the other drivers.
Agree with the other commenters about Glock's drive. Outstanding. - inactive, on 08/04/2008, -1/+11I am sad to see Massa's engine blow up because I genuinely think he's a faster driver than Kimi. This year was his real chance to get a shot at the WDC. This race could decide who Ferrari will give preferential treatment as the season comes to a close. But on the other hand, I am happy for Hamilton because he gets to keep his WDC lead with good damage limitation.
- drstock, on 08/04/2008, -0/+9Massa and Hamilton were both faster than Kovalainen throughout the race. Not much they could do about car/tire failure.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -2/+9Hamilton in fact extended his WDC lead.
- pgouy, on 08/04/2008, -0/+7Bad luck for Massa, he *REALLY* deserved to win the race. That double-overtake was an awesome move! Reminded me of the 80's...
Also, a great race by T Glock. - BelatedHero, on 08/04/2008, -5/+12Hamilton's tire puncture was so awesome.
- waspbr, on 08/04/2008, -0/+7yeah, he did a great job through out the whole race... pity...
- brnews, on 08/04/2008, -0/+6Massa lost not only the race, but the points that would make him isolated leader of the championship. Too bad... :(
- EpicSelekta, on 08/04/2008, -3/+8Hamilton's done enough winning this season anyway.
- Gsicht, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4When you have taped a sporting event and you do not want to know the outcome, maybe a news-website is not the best place to hang around...
- nbcaffeine, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4Spoiler below? The spoiler is in the headline. Either way, I'm still pumped to watch this on my tivo tonight.
- nikomo, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4Hehe ei vittu.
Anyways, hell yes. - BelatedHero, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3No. Massa's engine failure was equally awesome. I'm sick of all of the races being won by these 3 or 4 drivers from two teams.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -2/+5To be honest, he only won it by default.
- GoatMonkey2112, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3Massa is quite good, and sometimes faster than Kimi. But he is inconsistent and sometimes lets emotions overpower his driving. Sometimes emotional driving works out for him, but he has lost it many times as well. Also, Massa sucks in the rain.
I think it is pretty clear that Kimi is not quite as driven as he was before winning a championship, and will most likely retire as soon as possible though.
It's too bad that I will no longer be able to be a full Ferrari fan if they hire Alonso to replace him. - Initram5, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3Hungarian F1 Grand Prix in Budapest is always the most exciting tn the year just like the girls there....not to mention the Stephen Colbert Bridge. :)
- JLobes, on 08/04/2008, -0/+3His car had a cooling problem, which is why he was driving slowly near the end. Eventually the car blew up spraying oil all over the main straight with 3 laps to go.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2Kimi getting stuck behind Alonso was not bad luck. His grid position was due to him making a mistake in qualifying. A Ferrari should never be outqualified and outraced by the likes of Toyota.
- rodrigo74, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2.
- blacktriangle, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2It takes a Finn to win.
- replikhant, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2Massa could cave lost the championship points here.
- somberlaine, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2so true.
Hamiton: a flat tire
Massa: engine blow up - damawa42, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2He may have been over-driving the engine in order to keep ahead of Hamilton - a risky "all or nothing" engine setting perhaps! It didn't go to plan, the engine blew, and Massa lost the lead.
However, if Hamilton hadn't had a puncture, he may have overtaken Massa in the second round of pitstops anyway, due to having more fuel on board in order to be able to do a longer middle stint.
So it's swings and roundabouts, maybe this, maybe that.
Heikki deserved a win, but didn't really deserve this one, because Massa and Hamilton had been 20+ seconds ahead. - BigBenKlingon, on 08/04/2008, -1/+3***** off. You're on a news site. Don't want to know the outcome? Don't read the friggin news.
Should we wait for you to watch last year's superbowl too? Anything else you need to catch up on? - LiamMani, on 08/04/2008, -1/+3It's good to see kovalainen get his first win , massa had a good race but does the same thing every race braking late and locking his wheels. I agree with Majhem Timo Glock had drive of the day.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2It's usually the most boring because of lack of overtaking. If not for the two reliability problems, would you have called it the most exciting?
- replikhant, on 08/04/2008, -1/+2...and then he will crash somebody in the pitlanes.
- HardwareLust, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Damon Hill was the last British driver to win 3 in a row. Schumacher did it in 2006.
- replikhant, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1But he could have won the race. By not winning he failed to match Nigel Mansell´s british record of three consecutive wins.
- feliks2, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1I don't get what exactly happened, the article didnt't go into too much detail. Someone want to explain?
- smilgy, on 08/04/2008, -1/+2I agree 100% with you. Massa all the way!
- replikhant, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Personally, I see Massa´s move as the most beautiful moment of the season. But why did it had to end like it did?
- tomj88, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1I felt sorry for Massa, but I had a laugh at Ferrari's expense... Didn't 2 or 3 of their engines blow at Adelaide at the start of this season? And then Kimi's exhaust self destructed at Magny-Cours... something seems to be up with their engine if you ask me.
- tomj88, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Damon Hill was the last person to win 3 races in a row...
- glinsvad, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Not to compare Kovalainen to Homer, but a memorable Simpsons-quote comes to mind
http://www.jahozafat.com/php/sounds/?id=bst&media= ... - Prestitivo, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Thats still not bad for his second year of racing. There is still plenty of time for him to take 3 in a row
- Hammerjoe, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Ban his sorry ass for spoiling the race.
- feisar, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1true, true. That's why I come here for some news instead of BBC. As mentioned above, there are not a ton of F1 posts on Digg so I thought it would be quite safe to glance at one of the sites I read daily.....guess not anymore. But thank you for chiming in on my account Gsicht.
- daridave, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Who watches F1 NOT live anyway ???
- rodrigo74, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Most exciting of the calendar? No way.
Budapest is a wonderful city, though. - Fazaman, on 08/05/2008, -1/+1Stop with the spoilers in the headlines you sons of bitches!! That's two times this season! Arrrrrrrrgh!
- thinboyslim, on 08/04/2008, -1/+1Totally agree. Timo, since that huge crash on the Nurburgring, has been all kinds of class for a Toyota driver.
Massa's move on Hamilton was worthy of the win but I have to admit I laughed so hard when his engine went 3 laps from the finish.
Good thing Heikki won as I couldn't see why McLaren had signed him up again, he hasn't even been on par with the BMW's and Renault's. - Bovorik, on 08/04/2008, -0/+0Dunno about him being faster than his teammate, and he's certainly not got Kimi's driving skills.
That said, I can't see his place with Ferrari being threatened by Alonso - he (the Spaniard) may not be doing too bad with the car he's got, but why the ***** would anyone, let alone Ferrari, want such a disloyal and big-mouthed ***** as Alonso? - brettg102, on 08/04/2008, -1/+1Americans.
- Boofster, on 08/04/2008, -2/+2Thanks for spoiling it you bastard!
