- CrimsonBlur, on 01/18/2009, -5/+31Well at first I was going to say something like "and that's why monster truck rallies are trashy" but then I came to my senses and realized that a 6-year-old could easily be killed, by, say, a baseball to the head at a baseball game which I'm sure would be just as likely to happen.
Yes it's a tragedy this boy lost his life, but what are you going to do? ***** things happen... they don't normally stop sporting events because a spectator is injured. Although I have to say a chunk of a car flying into the stands and hitting a little boy is a pretty significant event. Hard to say what they should have done about it. - jordantneff, on 01/18/2009, -12/+29SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -4/+20That ***** blows. Condolences to the family.
- LiquidSpark, on 01/18/2009, -3/+19Poor kid. Tragic :(
- codyjohnle, on 01/18/2009, -4/+15Sad.
- sockpuppets, on 01/18/2009, -2/+12Jeez you're dumb.
- mbfielding, on 01/26/2009, -5/+15That's unfortunate.
- AmyVernon, on 01/18/2009, -3/+12This is really awful. My condolences to the family.
- DeviantDragon, on 01/18/2009, -12/+21At least the truck wasn't Grave Digger.
- codyjohnle, on 01/18/2009, -0/+8true that sporting events aren't normally stopped when a spectator is injured. but a child was killed.
edit: after watching the accompanying video i learned that the child died early the next morning at the hospital. - conna, on 01/18/2009, -2/+9I have been to many type of races, from stock and funny cars, to dirt track racing and debris always lands in the stands. It is really common on dirt tracks. To have a 12 pound 13 inch diameter steal ring fly into the stands and kill someone is the worst luck ever. Not sure what can be done about it though.
- digiguy, on 01/18/2009, -1/+8This could have happened to anyone in that area moron
- cmallinson, on 01/18/2009, -0/+6He died the next morning, but from the report I saw (http://www.kirotv.com/video/18502847/index.html) is sounded like it was obviously a very critical head injury to the child. I'm not sure how you go on with a show after that.
- ridestp, on 01/18/2009, -0/+6Sure... did you watch the video? This is the first time anything like this has happened in the 25 years of the event.
- Ferago, on 01/18/2009, -1/+6Oh no! 9:30 PM!
What the ***** are you talking about? The main people that should go to monster truck shows are kids. - WanderOn, on 01/18/2009, -1/+5If the debris would have hit you in the head, I'm pretty sure the outcome would have been similar..
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -1/+5It occurred last night, on FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY!
- temujin2012, on 01/18/2009, -3/+7R.I.P.
Condolences to the family. - whiteraven1717, on 01/18/2009, -1/+5You dumb *****, it was a 6 year old boy. In a child's mind big truck = awesome. He wouldn't understand any social stigma attached to it.
- Khast, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3of course, after this...it will be the exact opposite of any other sporting event. Cheap seats will be in the front, and the more expensive seats will be in the back. /s
Anyways, this is such a rare occurrence, it isn't like it happens every time. Come to think of it, it is the first time I have heard of it happening. - JigoroKano, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3Happens in hockey occasionally.
- Ibox, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3Happens about once a year in auto racing. Cart had one season that killed I think 6 spectators in two events, due to wheels flying off in to the stands. they added retainers to the rims to keep it from happening again.
- jonr1, on 01/18/2009, -3/+6A shame. Your elitist asses would have made far better victims than a young child.
- username7410, on 01/18/2009, -1/+4I don't remember the last time a spectator was actually killed in the stands at an event.
- Ferago, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3Get *****. I doubt everything you like is so much more sophisticated than monster trucks.
- username7410, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3Just Ten Bucks...
- Meowbiusfox, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3That poor child.I am very saddened for the family.
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -3/+4I've been to truck pulls and monster jams, there was at least in my mind, a sense of danger. Like it's not exactly the safest thing to be watching. Same can be said for air shows or baseball. Anything that can happen will eventually happen to the spectator at events like these.
- Testiculese, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Of course they would. This is America.
- chevyorange, on 01/18/2009, -1/+2Oh, yes, I'd sue them to high heaven.
- silentboom, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1They shouldn't, when you attend these events there is always a small chance of something happening. These trucks have thousands of horsepower, parts can explode at any time. There's actually a chance of something similar happening in your own car too. These parts are under alot of pressure. The chance is small but always present and unable to be stopped.
- jonr1, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Are you serious?
- Siderman1, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1Seriously?
- Siderman1, on 01/19/2009, -1/+1wow... you ass.
This comment almost made me a little mad...maybe that was the point. You win. - LawScholar, on 06/25/2009, -3/+3Sometimes sad is just plain old sad.
- codyjohnle, on 01/18/2009, -3/+3monster truck shows only appeal to 6 year olds and people with 6 year old minds.
- AmateurX, on 01/19/2009, -1/+1I can't help but think of how much my 4 year old son LOVES cars/trucks. He would love to be at an event like this. I imagine what this boy was like during the show; happy, exuberant, excited to see the loud monster trucks doing their thing. I can only imagine how I would be in this situation if this were to happen to my son.
- heartsblood, on 01/18/2009, -2/+2I always thought people went to those things to see people die and/or get hurt (stunt show). It seems somewhat illogical to complain just because it happens on other side of the wall.
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -4/+2We'll sell you the whole seat, but you'll only lose your head!!!!
- boogss03, on 01/18/2009, -3/+1This is truly tragic!! Something needs to be done to prevent anything like this from ever happening again.
- MAARRS, on 01/18/2009, -5/+2yeah, I'm a moron but my kids are all safe in bed by 7pm.
yep, bad things can happen every day, at random places, and I'm not even arguing the stupidity of taking a 6 yr old to a monster truck show, but first and foremost, you have a steady, reasonable bedtime for a baby. *****, watch SuperNanny if you need to.
If you can't do that, then you're not ready to parent.
again, Digg-tards - not against random violence at truck shows - against bad parents who don't know when to put a baby to bed. - calvinit21, on 01/18/2009, -5/+1If this is really the first accident in 25 years, then I don't think it's fair to argue that the events are inherently unsafe. However, if you watch the video, the organizers definitely show a level of callousness by not making medical help more accessible and not contacting the family sooner after the event.
Certainly fans have been injured at baseball and hockey events, but both the NHL and MLB take care to have people available to immediately respond to injured fans. - inactive, on 01/18/2009, -9/+5Don't know why you got dugg down, you are right. Don't take your 6 y.o to a monster truck show at almost 10 at night, ***** rednecks.
Common sense isn't very common. - jfts09, on 01/18/2009, -5/+0Was Chuck Knoblauch by any chance driving?
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -6/+1hot reporter
- 3allawi, on 01/18/2009, -7/+2American made truck... what do you expect!?
- sgtclydefr0g, on 01/18/2009, -13/+7 my girlfriend and I were invited To go to this, but then realized we weren't white trash. So glad I wasn't there to see this. Truley tragic.
- Morreti, on 01/18/2009, -11/+5Tickets for these monster truck shows are very cheap and there's an obvious reason why they are that way...very little money spent on crowd safety.
- CDollars, on 01/18/2009, -7/+1I know you all hate Dane Cook but come on....
