- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Perhaps. Grow a pair and let us know how that turns out?
- rhfb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Odds Jay Leno picks it up?
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Faster than your mom's gremlin and slightly slower than the sound it makes speeding out of krispy kreme.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30I bid 8 playstation 3s.
- Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16He treats his cars well, so it would be in good hands.
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12wow. this is going to be the most expensive car at barrett-jackson this year. Carol Shelby's original 800 bhp Cobra 427? God damn. Expect a 7-digit bid.
- Koray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11On a roll today huh, Sockpuppets?
- rishimaharaj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Somehow I don't think the animal would be your biggest concern.
- 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thanks rdixon for posting this. It's hard to believe that this car and the Dodge Omni GLH are both works of the same man. Gotta love his philosophy of stuffing the biggest engines into the smallest lightest cars, and stickin it to Ferrari... three times in one race.

Speed =!= HP (or quallity for that matter) - marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can't possibly imagine controlling that car at full-throttle from a stop. You'd break free in every gear. It's pretty scary having 400hp in a car that size, let alone 800!
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8If I were David Letterman I'd get a six pack and shill that thing up into the stratosphere, laughing all the way.
- caferace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I spent a lot of time around these cars as a kid. And to this day, I've yet to meet the Man. Dang it.

-jim - h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Kinda makes me sad that it's going to sell for more money than I'll make in my entire life.
- aliengoods, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Being as I have no money, I wonder if they'll take my testicles in trade?
- Half-Fast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How much do you bet the guy in the red Ferrari hat gets in on the bidding? Seems he's always in on the big ticket cars.
At least if Jay Leno can get hold of it, it will see some road time. I think he drives everything he owns. - scallon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They do have a modern version, google it. been around for a while too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm thinking it will fetch at least 3 million considering this is the holy grail of '60s American muscle cars.
And yeah, if Leno won the bid on it, it would be seen out and about town just as soon as he could get it legal or even before.
If I could afford to own it I would definitely drive it.
That's what Mr. Shelby built it for. - MadOgre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This just gave me a huge boner.
- canturbury, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Wow, that has to be one of the most drawn out yet pointless posts I have ever read.
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you need to get a better life.
- loriencfau, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2http://duggmirror.com
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The car probably weighs around 2200-2400lbs (2280lbs for stock, not sure how much the turbo mods are going to add/how much weight might've been removed). That's about ~2.875lb/hp compared to 8.5lb/hp for an M3 CSL, 4.9lb/hp for a Porsche Carrera GT, or 4.3lb/hp for a McLaren F1 GT. So, yeah, HP doesn't really mean much when you're talking about big, heavy cars (say, a Dodge Charger with 400hp weighs in around 3750lbs for about 9.38lb/hp) but the weight of this car to the hp is insane. Those fat rear tires can probably handle the torque pretty competently, too.
- phlux, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I have never considered myself much of a "car man" - which is a little odd because I own both a custom Volvo XC90 Suv and an Audi A3 (I make some mods to them when I buy them - but after the original purchase and fix I never do anything to my cars - and tend to drive them into the ground)
Although - the only car I would give anything to own is a *real* shelby cobra. (well I am lying - i'd own a replica too).
I dont know what it is about hte styling of the Cobra - its just the best looking car I have ever laid eyes on.
I would love to see a modern attempt at the body (with some "stealth angles" thrown in - at least to see if it works at all)
You know what would be much better than letting some super rich guy buy this thing - let someone who truely loves the cobra, but would never have a chance in hell buying one get it....
(no, not me - i'd wreck it. Like I said I drive my cars into the ground) - marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Canget...
I knew someone would say that. So go test drive a 500+hp car under 2500lbs and report back. Be sure to "man up" and open that throttle in every gear. - CanIGetAWitness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This sale will have nothing to do with power to cost ratio in comparison to other sports cars. This will be an iconic american muscle car sale that will just end up as someones garage decor. I bet is goes for 1.75 million and the owner would likely never drive it on a public road.
If I had $ coming out my ass, I would be involved in the bidding. - sp1keNARF, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5@sockpuppets
rofl - Brandondork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This would be one of the few times I wish I was Bill Gates just for the fact that I could walk into this auction and everyone would just get piss and leave.
- CanIGetAWitness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would love to and I would be no where near scared, got one I can borrow?
I do run a 172HP 425lb. crotch rocket pushing it's limits, will that count?
Don't mind me, I'm just teasing that a man would be scared of a hot rod, your terms could have been better without you looking wussyfied, I know your meaning.
Peace... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Man those cobras are so hot... and a dual Supercharged 800hp one? oh damn, i gotta change my underwear.
- 3vno, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hertz Shelby GT-H has the traction control off function disabled. So be sure to do the hack if you rent one.
- steebs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had to laugh a little when i saw the line about there being no reserve... i don't think that's going to matter much considering this car's going to go for 1,000,000+
- CanIGetAWitness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man up bud!
- DRIVEBUY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0as rdixon says it is an absolute rareity and someone with a big big account will pay top dollar!

lawl. mean. but lawl. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@babeclix,
Sorry but no1 gives a flying spaghetti monster what you watched on tv. - insomniasystems, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8Yeah, Leno would do just about anything for that car... including a blowjob for Letterman...
- ledmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Played Beneath a Steel Sky?
- TAZ6416, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1If like me you cannot afford this car, you can rent out a Hertz Shelby GT-H Mustang at the moment from most of the the larger American cities. I was lucky to get one for a week in October and it's a fantastic car, apparently it handles better than the GT500 but I havn't driven one so I can't compare.

Can you imagine what would happen if you hit a small animal with this car??? The front looks like a blender. - Satanael, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Faster than my Jeep...
